The author\u27s focus is what happens to our military men and women after they come home from wars “over there” and what happens after their last day when they put on civilian clothes and decide to hang up the uniform for good. There will always be wars and will always be a need to help care for and help integrate combat veterans back into everyday society in America. Both the soldier and his or her family will need help. A recent motto of Department of Veteran’s Affairs office was borrowed from President Abraham Lincoln- “To help care for him who have borne the battle, and his widow and his orphan”.. The title of this study is also a window into the research done for this study- Hopeless to Homeless to Hired to Housing: Helping transition our homeless veteran heroes into American communities by identifying the potential short-term and long-term problems and risks that lower enlisted servicemen and servicewomen have when leaving the military that can lead to housing insecurity and homelessness in the post 9-11 era . Both military and civilian agencies and programs such as FourBlock, DoD Skillbridge, Flanders Fields and the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH) are explored for their contributions before, during and after life in the military to help end veteran homelessnes

This project examines how Soviet military thought has influenced present day Russian military doctrine and has evolved to include cyber warfare as part of the larger structure of Russian information warfare. The analysis of three case studies of Russian cyber activity, the attack on Estonia (2007), the Russian-Georgian war (2008) and the ongoing Ukrainian war (beginning 2014), demonstrates the continuity of military doctrine and the physical manifestation of Russia’s cyber capabilities

Keeping A Town Alive?: The Civil War Re-enactment of the Battle of Pilot Knob

There is a place surrounded by thousands of acres of natural forests encircled by seven beautiful state parks nestled between the highest peaks in Missouri with rich Ozark history. Imagine three small towns situated in a valley of the Ozarks Mountains surrounded by breathtaking scenery, a perfect retreat from busyness of the city and the working world. Would you be interested in escaping here for a weekend or possibly for the rest of your life? If you even entertained the idea, local Chamber of Commerce officials succeeded in making you believe that Arcadia Valley or the towns of lronton, Arcadia, and Pilot Knob was a great place to visit. Henry Wadsworth Longfellow substantiated the claim when he wrote in the 19th century, There is a charming portion of our country, dainty and lovely as a dimple in the cheek of nature and yet comparatively unknown to residents in the East. It is the valley of Arcadia. However, most people refuse to pack their suitcases and head off to some place advertised as beautiful and scenic unless it has been highlighted as a featured destination on the Travel Channel. Taking this opinion into account, Arcadia Valley Chamber of Commerce hosts a tri-annual event to draw thousands of visitors into the area with the hopes of generating tourism revenue as well as making them want to return to the Arcadia Valley again and again. This event capitalizes on local history along with appealing to many Americans\u27 fascination with the Civil War--the re-enactment of the Civil War Battle of Pilot Knob

A Narrative Inquiry Into the Experiences of Evangelical Christians Leading in Public Schools During Culture War Skirmishes

intent of this exploratory, descriptive narrative inquiry was to understand the experiences of selected evangelicals serving as public school administrators who lead in the midst of skirmishes involving evangelical Christians and the local public schools where they serve. These conflicts are part of the larger cultural conflict between evangelical Christianity and public education. The narratives of five leaders were captured through semi-structured, in-depth interviews. The purposeful sample of participants included administrators from Texas, Southern California, and the South, the Midwest, and the Pacific Northwest. Each participant shared a skirmish story and its cultural and geographic context. In the process, work-faith relationships and the inner world of each administrator were also illuminated. Re-storied narratives were crafted and themes that emerged both within and across the stories were identified. The narratives were viewed through the lenses of culture war theory, role conflict theory, faith-work models, moral narratives theory, and wounding in leadership theory. Based upon that analysis, other theories are suggested as potentially useful. Dominant factors in the conflicts, such as the significance of geographic and cultural location, the role of fear in evangelical culture, and tension between the work of service and proselytizing among Christians in public schools are discussed. Further research is suggested to uncover other narratives of leadership in culture war conflicts, explore the role of faith in decision-making by school administrators, consider the role of faith in community development approaches to school improvement, and specific issues such as homosexuality, women in leadership, and the interplay of faith and race
