Performance Analysis of Uplink NOMA-Relevant Strategy Under Statistical Delay QoS Constraints

A new multiple access (MA) strategy, referred to as non orthogonal multiple access - Relevant (NOMA-R), allows selecting NOMA when this increases all individual rates, i.e., it is beneficial for both strong(er) and weak(er) individual users. This letter provides a performance analysis of the NOMA-R strategy in uplink networks with statistical delay constraints. Closed-form expressions of the effective capacity (EC) are provided in two-users networks, showing that the strong user always achieves a higher EC with NOMA-R. Regarding the network's sum EC, there are distinctive gains with NOMA-R, particularly under stringent delay constraints

This paper provides a state-of-art analysis of the most relevant studies on optimal user-aggregation strategies for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) technology. The main ideas behind are i) to highlight how, in addition to the adoption of an optimal power allocation scheme, an optimal user-aggregation strategy represents an important key factor for improving NOMA system performance, and ii) to provide an exhaustive survey of the most relevant studies which can serve as useful starting point for the definition of new channel state-aware user-aggregation strategies for NOMA systems which, at the time of writing, represents a research field that still remains to be investigated more in depth. A detailed and complete analysis, which permits to point out the need to guarantee a certain relationship between users’ channel gain, is provided for each cited work

User grouping and power allocation in NOMA systems: a novel semi-supervised reinforcement learning-based solution

Author's accepted manuscriptIn this paper, we present a pioneering solution to the problem of user grouping and power allocation in non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems. The problem is highly pertinent because NOMA is a well-recognized technique for future mobile radio systems. The salient and difcult issues associated with NOMA systems involve the task of grouping users together into the prespecifed time slots, which are augmented with the question of determining how much power should be allocated to the respective users. This problem is, in and of itself, NP-hard. Our solution is the frst reported reinforcement learning (RL)-based solution, which attempts to resolve parts of this issue. In particular, we invoke the object migration automaton (OMA) and one of its variants to resolve the grouping in NOMA systems. Furthermore, unlike the solutions reported in the literature, we do not assume prior knowledge of the channels’ distributions, nor of their coefcients, to achieve the grouping/partitioning. Thereafter, we use the consequent groupings to heuristically infer the power allocation. The simulation results that we have obtained confrm that our learning scheme can follow the dynamics of the channel coefcients efciently, and that the solution is able to resolve the issue dynamicallyacceptedVersio

Investigation on Evolving Single-Carrier NOMA into Multi-Carrier NOMA in 5G

© 2013 IEEE. Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) is one promising technology, which provides high system capacity, low latency, and massive connectivity, to address several challenges in the fifth-generation wireless systems. In this paper, we first reveal that the NOMA techniques have evolved from single-carrier NOMA (SC-NOMA) into multi-carrier NOMA (MC-NOMA). Then, we comprehensively investigated on the basic principles, enabling schemes and evaluations of the two most promising MC-NOMA techniques, namely sparse code multiple access (SCMA) and pattern division multiple access (PDMA). Meanwhile, we consider that the research challenges of SCMA and PDMA might be addressed with the stimulation of the advanced and matured progress in SC-NOMA. Finally, yet importantly, we investigate the emerging applications, and point out the future research trends of the MC-NOMA techniques, which could be straightforwardly inspired by the various deployments of SC-NOMA

This thesis aims towards performance enhancement for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) assisted internet of things network (IoT). In this realm, novel reinforcement learning (RL) frameworks have been proposed for solving intricate joint optimisation scenarios. These scenarios include, uplink, downlink and combined. The multi-access technique utilised is non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA), as key enabler in this regime. The outcomes of this research entail, enhancement in key performance metrics, such as sum-rate, energy efficiency and consequent reduction in outage. For the scenarios involving uplink transmissions by IoT devices, adaptive and tandem rein forcement learning frameworks have been developed. The aim is to maximise capacity over fixed UAV trajectory. The adaptive framework is utilised in a scenario wherein channel suitability is ascertained for uplink transmissions utilising a fixed clustering regime in NOMA. Tandem framework is utilised in a scenario wherein multiple-channel resource suitability is ascertained along with, power allocation, dynamic clustering and IoT node associations to NOMA clusters and channels. In scenarios involving downlink transmission to IoT devices, an ensemble RL (ERL) frame work is proposed for sum-rate enhancement over fixed UAV trajectory. For dynamic UAV trajec tory, hybrid decision framework (HDF) is proposed for energy efficiency optimisation. Downlink transmission power and bandwidth is managed for NOMA transmissions over fixed and dynamic UAV trajectories, facilitating IoT networks. In UAV enabled relaying scenario, for control system plants and their respective remotely deployed sensors, a head start reinforcement learning framework based on deep learning is de veloped and implemented. NOMA is invoked, in both uplink and downlink transmissions for IoT network. Dynamic NOMA clustering, power management and nodes association along with UAV height control is jointly managed. The primary aim is the, enhancement of net sum-rate and its subsequent manifestation in facilitating the IoT assisted use case. The simulation results relating to aforesaid scenarios indicate, enhanced sum-rate, energy efficiency and reduced outage for UAV-assisted IoT networks. The proposed RL frameworks surpass in performance in comparison to existing frameworks as benchmarks for the same sce narios. The simulation platforms utilised are MATLAB and Python, for network modeling, RL framework design and validation
