    Curah hujan adalah informasi penting di bidang transportasi, pertanian, industri dll. Dengan mengetahui informasi curah hujan, tindakan dapat diambil secara tepat di beberapa bidang tersebut. sehingga tidak ada kerugian karena kesalahan dalam informasi curah hujan. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk menemukan metode yang sesuai dalam peramalan curah hujan yang terkait dengan metode pemrosesan data imputasi dan nilai parameter dalam Support Vector Regression (SVR). Hasil percobaan menunjukkan bahwa metode preprocessing data imputasi terbaik diperoleh untuk digunakan ke dalam SVR berdasarkan nilai Mean Squared Error (MSE) dan Mean Absolute Error (MAE). Berdasarkan hasil MSE, k-nearest neighbor adalah metode terbaik yang digunakan untuk preprocessing data imputasi. Data preprocessing menghasilkan eksperimen pada SVR Polinomial dengan parameter C 1000, toleransi 0,001, epsilon 0,01 dan iterasi tak terbatas. Di sisi lain, hasil MAE menunjukkan bahwa Artificial Neural Network (ANN) adalah metode terbaik dalam imputasi data preprocessing. ANN dengan radial basis function kernel, gamma 0,001, C 1000, toleransi 0,001 dan iterasi tanpa batas. JST diuji pada RBF SVR dengan gamma 0,001, C 1000, toleransi 0,001 dan iterasi tak terbatas

    Disruptive Technologies in Smart Farming: An Expanded View with Sentiment Analysis

    Smart Farming (SF) is an emerging technology in the current agricultural landscape. The aim of Smart Farming is to provide tools for various agricultural and farming operations to improve yield by reducing cost, waste, and required manpower. SF is a data-driven approach that can mitigate losses that occur due to extreme weather conditions and calamities. The influx of data from various sensors, and the introduction of information communication technologies (ICTs) in the field of farming has accelerated the implementation of disruptive technologies (DTs) such as machine learning and big data. Application of these predictive and innovative tools in agriculture is crucial for handling unprecedented conditions such as climate change and the increasing global population. In this study, we review the recent advancements in the field of Smart Farming, which include novel use cases and projects around the globe. An overview of the challenges associated with the adoption of such technologies in their respective regions is also provided. A brief analysis of the general sentiment towards Smart Farming technologies is also performed by manually annotating YouTube comments and making use of the pattern library. Preliminary findings of our study indicate that, though there are several barriers to the implementation of SF tools, further research and innovation can alleviate such risks and ensure sustainability of the food supply. The exploratory sentiment analysis also suggests that most digital users are not well-informed about such technologies

    The climatic significance of tropical forest edges and their representation in global climate models

    An emerging theme in global climate modelling is whether land covers created in the clearance of tropical humid forests influence water exchange between remnant forest patches and the atmosphere, and, if so, how this affects regional and global water exchange. Fieldwork presented in this thesis ascertains whether the amount of water transferred to the atmosphere from a humid tropical forest situated in Sabah, Northern Borneo, Malaysia, differs between its edge and interior due to the influence of surrounding clearings through horizontal heat transfer. Using satellite imagery to measure the shape and size of tropical forests, field measurements of water transfer were extrapolated to continental and global levels to infer how differences in water exchange with the atmosphere between forest edges and interiors may influence regional and global forest-atmosphere water exchange. Mean sap flow in trees within 50 meters of a forest-clearing boundary was found to be 73% greater than that in trees further into the forest; an observation supported by the decreased canopy temperature also recorded there. Evaporation from the forest canopy constituted a high fraction of annual rainfall (33%), but showed no edge effect similar to that of sap flow. Edge plots, however, expressed evapotranspiration rates 22% lower than forest interiors (657-890 mm yr-1), owing to the lower number and size of trees there. One edge plot, however, exhibited evapotranspiration 49.5% greater than that of forest interiors. Gradients of air temperature, vapour pressure deficit and wind speed from the adjacent clearing to the forest interior indicated that warm, dry air moving from the clearing to the forest was the most credible cause of increased sap flow of trees near the forest edge. This hypothesis was supported by a strong correlation between the amount of vapour in the air moving from the clearing and tree water use. It was estimated that the influence of differences in water transfer to the atmosphere between the edges and interiors of tropical forest would not alter global water transfer to the atmosphere by more than 0.25-4%, or by 4-7% in the most fragmented tropical continent, Africa. However, it remains unclear whether the inclusion of tropical forest edge effects within climate models is necessary, as the pioneering nature of this thesis, and of existing studies reviewed within it, means that solid conclusions will be dependent upon future work. This thesis concludes with suggestions for future research that will most effectively consolidate the provisional conclusions and recommendations herein

    Forests, carbon cycle and climate change

    The results presented in this book summarize the main findings of the CARBOFOR project, which brought together 52 scientists from 14 research units to investigate the effects of future climate on the carbon cycle, the productivity and vulnerability of French forests. This book explains the current forest carbon cycle in temperate and Mediterranean climates, including the dynamics of soil carbon and the total carbon stock of French forests, based on forest inventories. It reviews and illustrates the main ground-based methods for estimating carbon stocks in tree biomass. Spatial variations in projected climate change over metropolitan France throughout the 21st century are described. The book then goes on to consider the impacts of climate change on tree phenology and forest carbon balance, evapotranspiration and production as well as their first order interaction with forest management alternatives. The impact of climate change on forest vulnerability is analysed. A similar simulation study was carried out for a range of pathogenic fungi, emphasizing the importance of both warming and precipitation changes. The consequences of climate change on the occurrence of forest fires and the forest carbon cycle in the Mediterranean zone are also considered.A valuable reference for researchers and academics, forest engineers and managers, and graduate level students in forest ecology, ecological modelling and forestry

    Dipterocarps protected by Jering local wisdom in Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park, Bangka Island, Indonesia

    Apart of the oil palm plantation expansion, the Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park has relatively diverse plants. The 3,538 ha park is located at the north west of Bangka Island, Indonesia. The minimum species-area curve was 0.82 ha which is just below Dalil conservation forest that is 1.2 ha, but it is much higher than measurements of several secondary forests in the Island that are 0.2 ha. The plot is inhabited by more than 50 plant species. Of 22 tree species, there are 40 individual poles with the average diameter of 15.3 cm, and 64 individual trees with the average diameter of 48.9 cm. The density of Dipterocarpus grandiflorus (Blanco) Blanco or kruing, is 20.7 individual/ha with the diameter ranges of 12.1 – 212.7 cm or with the average diameter of 69.0 cm. The relatively intact park is supported by the local wisdom of Jering tribe, one of indigenous tribes in the island. People has regulated in cutting trees especially in the cape. The conservation agency designates the park as one of the kruing propagules sources in the province. The growing oil palm plantation and the less adoption of local wisdom among the youth is a challenge to forest conservation in the province where tin mining activities have been the economic driver for decades. More socialization from the conservation agency and the involvement of university students in raising environmental awareness is important to be done
