Towards a Proof Theory of G\"odel Modal Logics
Analytic proof calculi are introduced for box and diamond fragments of basic
modal fuzzy logics that combine the Kripke semantics of modal logic K with the
many-valued semantics of G\"odel logic. The calculi are used to establish
completeness and complexity results for these fragments
Fragments and frame classes:Towards a uniform proof theory for modal fixed point logics
This thesis studies the proof theory of modal fixed point logics. In particular, we construct proof systems for various fragments of the modal mu-calculus, interpreted over various classes of frames. With an emphasis on uniform constructions and general results, we aim to bring the relatively underdeveloped proof theory of modal fixed point logics closer to the well-established proof theory of basic modal logic. We employ two main approaches. First, we seek to generalise existing methods for basic modal logic to accommodate fragments of the modal mu-calculus. We use this approach for obtaining Hilbert-style proof systems. Secondly, we adapt existing proof systems for the modal mu-calculus to various classes of frames. This approach yields proof systems which are non-well-founded, or cyclic. The thesis starts with an introduction and some mathematical preliminaries. In Chapter 3 we give hypersequent calculi for modal logic with the master modality, building on work by Ori Lahav. This is followed by an Intermezzo, where we present an abstract framework for cyclic proofs, in which we give sufficient conditions for establishing the bounded proof property. In Chapter 4 we generalise existing work on Hilbert-style proof systems for PDL to the level of the continuous modal mu-calculus. Chapter 5 contains a novel cyclic proof system for the alternation-free two-way modal mu-calculus. Finally, in Chapter 6, we present a cyclic proof system for Guarded Kleene Algebra with Tests and take a first step towards using it to establish the completeness of an algebraic counterpart
A Hypersequent Calculus with Clusters for Data Logic over Ordinals
We study freeze tense logic over well-founded data streams. The logic features past-and future-navigating modalities along with freeze quantifiers, which store the datum of the current position and test data (in)equality later in the formula. We introduce a decidable fragment of that logic, and present a proof system that is sound for the whole logic, and complete for this fragment. Technically, this is a hy-persequent system enriched with an ordering, clusters, and annotations. The proof system is tailored for proof search, and yields an optimal coNP complexity for validity and a small model property for our fragment
Inducing syntactic cut-elimination for indexed nested sequents
The key to the proof-theoretic study of a logic is a proof calculus with a
subformula property. Many different proof formalisms have been introduced (e.g.
sequent, nested sequent, labelled sequent formalisms) in order to provide such
calculi for the many logics of interest. The nested sequent formalism was
recently generalised to indexed nested sequents in order to yield proof calculi
with the subformula property for extensions of the modal logic K by
(Lemmon-Scott) Geach axioms. The proofs of completeness and cut-elimination
therein were semantic and intricate. Here we show that derivations in the
labelled sequent formalism whose sequents are `almost treelike' correspond
exactly to indexed nested sequents. This correspondence is exploited to induce
syntactic proofs for indexed nested sequent calculi making use of the elegant
proofs that exist for the labelled sequent calculi. A larger goal of this work
is to demonstrate how specialising existing proof-theoretic transformations
alleviate the need for independent proofs in each formalism. Such coercion can
also be used to induce new cutfree calculi. We employ this to present the first
indexed nested sequent calculi for intermediate logics.Comment: This is an extended version of the conference paper [20
A focused framework for emulating modal proof systems
International audienceSeveral deductive formalisms (e.g., sequent, nested sequent, labeled sequent, hyperse-quent calculi) have been used in the literature for the treatment of modal logics, and some connections between these formalisms are already known. Here we propose a general framework, which is based on a focused version of the labeled sequent calculus by Negri, augmented with some parametric devices allowing to restrict the set of proofs. By properly defining such restrictions and by choosing an appropriate polarization of formulas, one can obtain different, concrete proof systems for the modal logic K and for its extensions by means of geometric axioms. In particular, we show how to use the expressiveness of the labeled approach and the control mechanisms of focusing in order to emulate in our framework the behavior of a range of existing formalisms and proof systems for modal logic
