Linear Precoders for Non-Regenerative Asymmetric Two-way Relaying in Cellular Systems
Two-way relaying (TWR) reduces the spectral-efficiency loss caused in
conventional half-duplex relaying. TWR is possible when two nodes exchange data
simultaneously through a relay. In cellular systems, data exchange between base
station (BS) and users is usually not simultaneous e.g., a user (TUE) has
uplink data to transmit during multiple access (MAC) phase, but does not have
downlink data to receive during broadcast (BC) phase. This non-simultaneous
data exchange will reduce TWR to spectrally-inefficient conventional
half-duplex relaying. With infrastructure relays, where multiple users
communicate through a relay, a new transmission protocol is proposed to recover
the spectral loss. The BC phase following the MAC phase of TUE is now used by
the relay to transmit downlink data to another user (RUE). RUE will not be able
to cancel the back-propagating interference. A structured precoder is designed
at the multi-antenna relay to cancel this interference. With multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) nodes, the proposed precoder also triangulates the
compound MAC and BC phase MIMO channels. The channel triangulation reduces the
weighted sum-rate optimization to power allocation problem, which is then cast
as a geometric program. Simulation results illustrate the effectiveness of the
proposed protocol over conventional solutions.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figures, submitted to IEEE Transactions on Wireless

User-Antenna Selection for Physical-Layer Network Coding based on Euclidean Distance
In this paper, we present the error performance analysis of a multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) physical-layer network coding (PNC) system with two
different user-antenna selection (AS) schemes in asymmetric channel conditions.
For the first antenna selection scheme (AS1), where the user-antenna is
selected in order to maximize the overall channel gain between the user and the
relay, we give an explicit analytical proof that for binary modulations, the
system achieves full diversity order of in the
multiple-access (MA) phase, where , and denote the number of
antennas at user , user and relay respectively. We present a
detailed investigation of the diversity order for the MIMO-PNC system with AS1
in the MA phase for any modulation order. A tight closed-form upper bound on
the average SER is also derived for the special case when , which is
valid for any modulation order. We show that in this case the system fails to
achieve transmit diversity in the MA phase, as the system diversity order drops
to irrespective of the number of transmit antennas at the user nodes.
Additionally, we propose a Euclidean distance (ED) based user-antenna selection
scheme (AS2) which outperforms the first scheme in terms of error performance.
Moreover, by deriving upper and lower bounds on the diversity order for the
MIMO-PNC system with AS2, we show that this system enjoys both transmit and
receive diversity, achieving full diversity order of in the MA phase for any modulation order. Monte Carlo simulations are
provided which confirm the correctness of the derived analytical results.Comment: IEEE Transactions on Communications. arXiv admin note: text overlap

Multiaccess Channels with State Known to One Encoder: Another Case of Degraded Message Sets
We consider a two-user state-dependent multiaccess channel in which only one
of the encoders is informed, non-causally, of the channel states. Two
independent messages are transmitted: a common message transmitted by both the
informed and uninformed encoders, and an individual message transmitted by only
the uninformed encoder. We derive inner and outer bounds on the capacity region
of this model in the discrete memoryless case as well as the Gaussian case.
Further, we show that the bounds for the Gaussian case are tight in some
special cases.Comment: 5 pages, Proc. of IEEE International Symposium on Information theory,

Resource Allocation for Energy-Efficient 3-Way Relay Channels
Throughput and energy efficiency in 3-way relay channels are studied in this
paper. Unlike previous contributions, we consider a circular message exchange.
First, an outer bound and achievable sum rate expressions for different
relaying protocols are derived for 3-way relay channels. The sum capacity is
characterized for certain SNR regimes. Next, leveraging the derived achievable
sum rate expressions, cooperative and competitive maximization of the energy
efficiency are considered. For the cooperative case, both low-complexity and
globally optimal algorithms for joint power allocation at the users and at the
relay are designed so as to maximize the system global energy efficiency. For
the competitive case, a game theoretic approach is taken, and it is shown that
the best response dynamics is guaranteed to converge to a Nash equilibrium. A
power consumption model for mmWave board-to-board communications is developed,
and numerical results are provided to corroborate and provide insight on the
theoretical findings.Comment: Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communication
Secure Degrees of Freedom of MIMO X-Channels with Output Feedback and Delayed CSIT
We investigate the problem of secure transmission over a two-user multi-input
multi-output (MIMO) X-channel in which channel state information is provided
with one-unit delay to both transmitters (CSIT), and each receiver feeds back
its channel output to a different transmitter. We refer to this model as MIMO
X-channel with asymmetric output feedback and delayed CSIT. The transmitters
are equipped with M-antennas each, and the receivers are equipped with
N-antennas each. For this model, accounting for both messages at each receiver,
we characterize the optimal sum secure degrees of freedom (SDoF) region. We
show that, in presence of asymmetric output feedback and delayed CSIT, the sum
SDoF region of the MIMO X-channel is same as the SDoF region of a two-user MIMO
BC with 2M-antennas at the transmitter, N-antennas at each receiver and delayed
CSIT. This result shows that, upon availability of asymmetric output feedback
and delayed CSIT, there is no performance loss in terms of sum SDoF due to the
distributed nature of the transmitters. Next, we show that this result also
holds if only output feedback is conveyed to the transmitters, but in a
symmetric manner, i.e., each receiver feeds back its output to both
transmitters and no CSIT. We also study the case in which only asymmetric
output feedback is provided to the transmitters, i.e., without CSIT, and derive
a lower bound on the sum SDoF for this model. Furthermore, we specialize our
results to the case in which there are no security constraints. In particular,
similar to the setting with security constraints, we show that the optimal sum
DoF region of the (M,M,N,N)--MIMO X-channel with asymmetric output feedback and
delayed CSIT is same as the DoF region of a two-user MIMO BC with 2M-antennas
at the transmitter, N-antennas at each receiver, and delayed CSIT. We
illustrate our results with some numerical examples.Comment: To Appear in IEEE Transactions on Information Forensics and Securit
