Don't Repeat Yourself: Seamless Execution and Analysis of Extensive Network Experiments
This paper presents MACI, the first bespoke framework for the management, the
scalable execution, and the interactive analysis of a large number of network
experiments. Driven by the desire to avoid repetitive implementation of just a
few scripts for the execution and analysis of experiments, MACI emerged as a
generic framework for network experiments that significantly increases
efficiency and ensures reproducibility. To this end, MACI incorporates and
integrates established simulators and analysis tools to foster rapid but
systematic network experiments.
We found MACI indispensable in all phases of the research and development
process of various communication systems, such as i) an extensive DASH video
streaming study, ii) the systematic development and improvement of Multipath
TCP schedulers, and iii) research on a distributed topology graph pattern
matching algorithm. With this work, we make MACI publicly available to the
research community to advance efficient and reproducible network experiments
Resilient availability and bandwidth-aware multipath provisioning for media transfer over the internet (Best Paper Award)
Traditional routing in the Internet is best-effort. Path differentiation including multipath routing is a promising technique to be used for meeting QoS requirements of media intensive applications. Since different paths have different characteristics in terms of latency, availability and bandwidth, they offer flexibility in QoS and congestion control. Additionally protection techniques can be used to enhance the reliability of the network.
This paper studies the problem of how to optimally find paths ensuring maximal bandwidth and resiliency of media transfer over the network. In particular, we propose two algorithms to reserve network paths with minimal new resources while increasing the availability of the paths and enabling congestion control. The first algorithm is based on Integer Linear Programming which minimizes the cost of the paths and the used resources. The second one is a heuristic-based algorithm which solves the scalability limitations of the ILP approach. The algorithms ensure resiliency against any single link failure in the network.
The experimental results indicate that using the proposed schemes the connections availability improve significantly and a more balanced load is achieved in the network compared to the shortest path-based approaches

Characterizing and Improving the Reliability of Broadband Internet Access
In this paper, we empirically demonstrate the growing importance of
reliability by measuring its effect on user behavior. We present an approach
for broadband reliability characterization using data collected by many
emerging national initiatives to study broadband and apply it to the data
gathered by the Federal Communications Commission's Measuring Broadband America
project. Motivated by our findings, we present the design, implementation, and
evaluation of a practical approach for improving the reliability of broadband

VANETs Multipath Video Data Streaming Considering Road Features
Multipath video streaming in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks (VANETs) is an evolving research topic. The adoption of video transmission in VANETs communication has become essential due to the comprehensiveness and applicability of video data for on-road advertisement and infotainment. Meanwhile, several research studies have considered how to apply and improve the transmission of the video quality. Due to this, the concurrent multipath transmission has been employed in order to achieve load balancing and path diversity, because of the high data rate of the video data. However, the main nature of the road, which is the pathway for VANET nodes has not been considered explicitly. In this paper, the road features are considered for VANETs multipath video streaming based on the greedy geographical routing protocol. Thus, VANETs Multipath Video Streaming based on Road Features (VMVS-RF) protocol has been proposed. The protocol was compared with an ordinary Multipath Video Streaming (MVS). The result demonstrates that the proposed VMVS-RF protocol outperforms the MVS in terms of Data Receiving Rate (DRR), Structural Similarity (SSIM) index and Packet Loss Ratio (PLR)
