Decision support for build-to-order supply chain management through multiobjective optimization
This paper aims to identify the gaps in decision-making support based on
multiobjective optimization for build-to-order supply chain management (BTOSCM).
To this end, it reviews the literature available on modelling build-to-order
supply chains (BTO-SC) with the focus on adopting multiobjective optimization
(MOO) techniques as a decision support tool. The literature has been classified based
on the nature of the decisions in different part of the supply chain, and the key
decision areas across a typical BTO-SC are discussed in detail. Available software
packages suitable for supporting decision making in BTO supply chains are also
identified and their related solutions are outlined. The gap between the modelling and
optimization techniques developed in the literature and the decision support needed in
practice are highlighted and future research directions to better exploit the decision
support capabilities of MOO are proposed
A software framework based on a conceptual unified model for evolutionary multiobjective optimization: ParadisEO-MOEO
International audienceThis paper presents a general-purpose software framework dedicated to the design and the implementation of evolutionary multiobjective optimization techniques: ParadisEO-MOEO. A concise overview of evolutionary algorithms for multiobjective optimization is given. A substantial number of methods has been proposed so far, and an attempt of conceptually unifying existing approaches is presented here. Based on a fine-grained decomposition and following the main issues of fitness assignment, diversity preservation and elitism, a conceptual model is proposed and is validated by regarding a number of state-of-the-art algorithms as simple variants of the same structure. This model is then incorporated into the ParadisEO-MOEO software framework. This framework has proven its validity and high flexibility by enabling the resolution of many academic, real-world and hard multiobjective optimization problems
Multi-objective engineering shape optimization using differential evolution interfaced to the Nimrod/O tool
This paper presents an enhancement of the Nimrod/O optimization tool by interfacing DEMO, an external multiobjective optimization algorithm. DEMO is a variant of differential evolution â an algorithm that has attained much popularity in the research community, and this work represents the first time that true multiobjective optimizations have been performed with Nimrod/O. A modification to the DEMO code enables multiple objectives to be evaluated concurrently. With Nimrod/Oâs support for parallelism, this can reduce the wall-clock time significantly for compute intensive objective function evaluations. We describe the usage and implementation of the interface and present two optimizations. The first is a two objective mathematical function in which the Pareto front is successfully found after only 30 generations. The second test case is the three-objective shape optimization of a rib-reinforced wall bracket using the Finite Element software, Code_Aster. The interfacing of the already successful packages of Nimrod/O and DEMO yields a solution that we believe can benefit a wide community, both industrial and academic
A Unified Model for Evolutionary Multiobjective Optimization and its Implementation in a General Purpose Software Framework: ParadisEO-MOEO

is validated by regarding a number of state-of-the-art algorithms as simple
variants of the same structure. The presented model is then incorporated into a
general-purpose software framework dedicated to the design and the

Cloud computing resource scheduling and a survey of its evolutionary approaches
A disruptive technology fundamentally transforming the way that computing services are delivered, cloud computing offers information and communication technology users a new dimension of convenience of resources, as services via the Internet. Because cloud provides a finite pool of virtualized on-demand resources, optimally scheduling them has become an essential and rewarding topic, where a trend of using Evolutionary Computation (EC) algorithms is emerging rapidly. Through analyzing the cloud computing architecture, this survey first presents taxonomy at two levels of scheduling cloud resources. It then paints a landscape of the scheduling problem and solutions. According to the taxonomy, a comprehensive survey of state-of-the-art approaches is presented systematically. Looking forward, challenges and potential future research directions are investigated and invited, including real-time scheduling, adaptive dynamic scheduling, large-scale scheduling, multiobjective scheduling, and distributed and parallel scheduling. At the dawn of Industry 4.0, cloud computing scheduling for cyber-physical integration with the presence of big data is also discussed. Research in this area is only in its infancy, but with the rapid fusion of information and data technology, more exciting and agenda-setting topics are likely to emerge on the horizon

Multiobjective optimization as a decision aid for managing build-to-order supply chains
This paper provides an overview of multiobjective optimization (MOO) as a decision aid in
build-to-order supply chains (BTO-SC). The main features of BTO-SCs are discussed along
with capabilities of MOO to enhance decision making at different points along the chain.
Key decision points across a typical BTO-SC are identified and potential applications of
MOO are discussed. A sample application is presented and future avenues for further research
highlighted
An evolutionary algorithm with double-level archives for multiobjective optimization
Existing multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs) tackle a multiobjective problem either as a whole or as several decomposed single-objective sub-problems. Though the problem decomposition approach generally converges faster through optimizing all the sub-problems simultaneously, there are two issues not fully addressed, i.e., distribution of solutions often depends on a priori problem decomposition, and the lack of population diversity among sub-problems. In this paper, a MOEA with double-level archives is developed. The algorithm takes advantages of both the multiobjective-problemlevel and the sub-problem-level approaches by introducing two types of archives, i.e., the global archive and the sub-archive. In each generation, self-reproduction with the global archive and cross-reproduction between the global archive and sub-archives both breed new individuals. The global archive and sub-archives communicate through cross-reproduction, and are updated using the reproduced individuals. Such a framework thus retains fast convergence, and at the same time handles solution distribution along Pareto front (PF) with scalability. To test the performance of the proposed algorithm, experiments are conducted on both the widely used benchmarks and a set of truly disconnected problems. The results verify that, compared with state-of-the-art MOEAs, the proposed algorithm offers competitive advantages in distance to the PF, solution coverage, and search speed
Multiobjective Robust Control with HIFOO 2.0
Multiobjective control design is known to be a difficult problem both in
theory and practice. Our approach is to search for locally optimal solutions of
a nonsmooth optimization problem that is built to incorporate minimization
objectives and constraints for multiple plants. We report on the success of
this approach using our public-domain Matlab toolbox HIFOO 2.0, comparing our
results with benchmarks in the literature
Singular Continuation: Generating Piece-wise Linear Approximations to Pareto Sets via Global Analysis
We propose a strategy for approximating Pareto optimal sets based on the
global analysis framework proposed by Smale (Dynamical systems, New York, 1973,
pp. 531-544). The method highlights and exploits the underlying manifold
structure of the Pareto sets, approximating Pareto optima by means of
simplicial complexes. The method distinguishes the hierarchy between singular
set, Pareto critical set and stable Pareto critical set, and can handle the
problem of superposition of local Pareto fronts, occurring in the general
nonconvex case. Furthermore, a quadratic convergence result in a suitable
set-wise sense is proven and tested in a number of numerical examples.Comment: 29 pages, 12 figure
