    Remote Sensing Single Image Super-Resolution Benchmarking with Transfer Learning Algorithms

The final version is available from IEEE via the DOI in this recordIn the context of real-world applications like medical imaging systems, tracking, astronomical imaging, navigation, and remote sensing (RS), there is a pressing need to enhance or upscale images with minimal errors. This is particularly critical for tasks such as target detection, image classification, and land use mapping. However, remote sensing images often suffer from limitations in spatial, spectral, radiometric, and temporal resolution due to complex atmospheric conditions and sensor constraints. Additionally, acquiring these images can be expensive and time-consuming. In this study, we propose a Single Image Super-Resolution (SISR) method to address these challenges by upscaling low-quality remote sensing images to higher resolution, enabling a better understanding of these images. We also discuss the specific challenges in remote sensing super-resolution techniques and review various upscaling approaches, while analyzing the impact of other factors like weather conditions, image capture time, and different scene types on the technique’s effectiveness

    This open access book presents an interdisciplinary, multi-authored, edited collection of chapters on Artificial Intelligence (‘AI’) and the Law. AI technology has come to play a central role in the modern data economy. Through a combination of increased computing power, the growing availability of data and the advancement of algorithms, AI has now become an umbrella term for some of the most transformational technological breakthroughs of this age. The importance of AI stems from both the opportunities that it offers and the challenges that it entails. While AI applications hold the promise of economic growth and efficiency gains, they also create significant risks and uncertainty. The potential and perils of AI have thus come to dominate modern discussions of technology and ethics – and although AI was initially allowed to largely develop without guidelines or rules, few would deny that the law is set to play a fundamental role in shaping the future of AI. As the debate over AI is far from over, the need for rigorous analysis has never been greater. This book thus brings together contributors from different fields and backgrounds to explore how the law might provide answers to some of the most pressing questions raised by AI.     Smart Gas Sensors: Materials, Technologies, Practical ‎Applications, and Use of Machine Learning – A Review

    The electronic nose, popularly known as the E-nose, that combines gas sensor arrays (GSAs) with machine learning has gained a strong foothold in gas sensing technology. The E-nose designed to mimic the human olfactory system, is used for the detection and identification of various volatile compounds. The GSAs develop a unique signal fingerprint for each volatile compound to enable pattern recognition using machine learning algorithms. The inexpensive, portable and non-invasive characteristics of the E-nose system have rendered it indispensable within the gas-sensing arena. As a result, E-noses have been widely employed in several applications in the areas of the food industry, health management, disease diagnosis, water and air quality control, and toxic gas leakage detection. This paper reviews the various sensor fabrication technologies of GSAs and highlights the main operational framework of the E-nose system. The paper details vital signal pre-processing techniques of feature extraction, feature selection, in addition to machine learning algorithms such as SVM, kNN, ANN, and Random Forests for determining the type of gas and estimating its concentration in a competitive environment. The paper further explores the potential applications of E-noses for diagnosing diseases, monitoring air quality, assessing the quality of food samples and estimating concentrations of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in air and in food samples. The review concludes with some challenges faced by E-nose, alternative ways to tackle them and proposes some recommendations as potential future work for further development and design enhancement of E-noses

    S3IM: Stochastic Structural SIMilarity and Its Unreasonable Effectiveness for Neural Fields

    Recently, Neural Radiance Field (NeRF) has shown great success in rendering novel-view images of a given scene by learning an implicit representation with only posed RGB images. NeRF and relevant neural field methods (e.g., neural surface representation) typically optimize a point-wise loss and make point-wise predictions, where one data point corresponds to one pixel. Unfortunately, this line of research failed to use the collective supervision of distant pixels, although it is known that pixels in an image or scene can provide rich structural information. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first to design a nonlocal multiplex training paradigm for NeRF and relevant neural field methods via a novel Stochastic Structural SIMilarity (S3IM) loss that processes multiple data points as a whole set instead of process multiple inputs independently. Our extensive experiments demonstrate the unreasonable effectiveness of S3IM in improving NeRF and neural surface representation for nearly free. The improvements of quality metrics can be particularly significant for those relatively difficult tasks: e.g., the test MSE loss unexpectedly drops by more than 90% for TensoRF and DVGO over eight novel view synthesis tasks; a 198% F-score gain and a 64% Chamfer L1L_{1} distance reduction for NeuS over eight surface reconstruction tasks. Moreover, S3IM is consistently robust even with sparse inputs, corrupted images, and dynamic scenes.Comment: ICCV 2023 main conference.     A construction method of urban road risky vehicles based on dynamic knowledge graph

    The growth of the Internet of Things makes it possible to share information on risky vehicles openly and freely. How to create dynamic knowledge graphs of continually changing risky vehicles has emerged as a crucial technology for identifying risky vehicles, as well as a research hotspot in both artificial intelligence and field knowledge graphs. The node information of the risky vehicle knowledge graph is not rich, and the graph structure plays a major role in its dynamic changes. The paper presents a fusion algorithm based on relational graph convolutional network (R-GCN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) to build the dynamic knowledge graph of risky vehicles and conducts a comparative experiment on the link prediction task. The results showed that the fusion algorithm based on R-GCN and LSTM had better performance than the other methods such as GCN, DynGEM, ROLAND, and RE-GCN, with the MAP value of 0.2746 and the MRR value of 0.1075. To further verify the proposed algorithm, classification experiments are carried out on the risky vehicle dataset. Accuracy, precision, recall, and F-values were used as heat-tolerance evaluation indexes in classification experiments, the values were 0.667, 0.034, 0.422, and 0.52 respectively

    Deformable Neural Radiance Fields using RGB and Event Cameras

    Modeling Neural Radiance Fields for fast-moving deformable objects from visual data alone is a challenging problem. A major issue arises due to the high deformation and low acquisition rates. To address this problem, we propose to use event cameras that offer very fast acquisition of visual change in an asynchronous manner. In this work, we develop a novel method to model the deformable neural radiance fields using RGB and event cameras. The proposed method uses the asynchronous stream of events and calibrated sparse RGB frames. In our setup, the camera pose at the individual events required to integrate them into the radiance fields remains unknown. Our method jointly optimizes these poses and the radiance field. This happens efficiently by leveraging the collection of events at once and actively sampling the events during learning. Experiments conducted on both realistically rendered graphics and real-world datasets demonstrate a significant benefit of the proposed method over the state-of-the-art and the compared baseline. This shows a promising direction for modeling deformable neural radiance fields in real-world dynamic scenes

    RSCDNet: A Robust Deep Learning Architecture for Change Detection From Bi-Temporal High Resolution Remote Sensing Images

    Accurate change detection from high-resolution satellite and aerial images is of great significance in remote sensing for precise comprehension of Land cover (LC) variations. The current methods compromise with the spatial context; hence, they fail to detect and delineate small change areas and are unable to capture the difference between features of the bi-temporal images. This paper proposes Remote Sensing Change Detection Network (RSCDNet) - a robust end-to-end deep learning architecture for pixel-wise change detection from bi-temporal high-resolution remote-sensing (HRRS) images. The proposed RSCDNet model is based on an encoder-decoder framework integrated with the Modified Self-Attention (MSA) andthe Gated Linear Atrous Spatial Pyramid Pooling (GL-ASPP) blocks; both efficient mechanisms to regulate the field-of-view while finding the most suitable trade-off between accurate localization and context assimilation. The paper documents the design and development of the proposed RSCDNet model and compares its qualitative and quantitative results with state-of-the-art HRRS change detection architectures. The above mentioned novelties in the proposed architecture resulted in an F1-score of 98%, 98%, 88%, and 75% on the four publicly available HRRS datasets namely, Staza-Tisadob, Onera, CD-LEVIR, and WHU. In addition to the improvement in the performance metrics, the strategic connections in the proposed GL-ASPP and MSA units significantly reduce the prediction time per image (PTPI) and provide robustness against perturbations. Experimental results yield that the proposed RSCDNet model outperforms the most recent change detection benchmark models on all four HRRS datasets
