Broadcasting Routing Protocols in VANET
Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) is a subclass of Mobile ad hoc networks which provides a distinguished approach for Intelligent Transport System (ITS). The survey of routing protocols in VANET is important and necessary for smart ITS. This paper discusses the advantages / disadvantages and the applications of various routing protocols for vehicular ad hoc networks. It explores the motivation behind the designed, and traces the evolution of these routing protocols. This paper discusses the main 5 types of protocols for VANET Topology Based, Positioned Based, Geo Cast, Broad Cast, and Cluster Based Protocols. A Hybrid Model to Extend Vehicular Intercommunication V2V through D2D Architecture
In the recent years, many solutions for Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V)
communication were proposed to overcome failure problems (also known as dead
ends). This paper proposes a novel framework for V2V failure recovery using
Device-to-Device (D2D) communications. Based on the unified Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS) architecture, LTE-based D2D mechanisms can improve
V2V dead ends failure recovery delays. This new paradigm of hybrid V2V-D2D
communications overcomes the limitations of traditional V2V routing techniques.
According to NS2 simulation results, the proposed hybrid model decreases the
end to end delay (E2E) of messages delivery. A complete comparison of different
D2D use cases (best & worst scenarios) is presented to show the enhancements

QoSHVCP: hybrid vehicular communications protocol with QoS prioritization for safety applications
This paper introduces a hybrid communication paradigm for achieving seamless connectivity in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks (VANETs), wherein the connectivity is often affected by changes in the dynamic topology, vehicles' speed, as well as the traffic density. Our proposed technique named QoS-oriented Hybrid Vehicular Communications Protocol (QoSHVCP) exploits both existing network infrastructure through a Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I), as well as a traditional Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) connection that could satisfy Quality-of-Service requirements. QoSHVCP is based on a V2V-V2I protocol switching algorithm, executed in a distributed fashion by each vehicle and is based on the cost function for alternative paths each time it needs to transmit a message. We utilize time delay as a performance metric and present the delay propagation rates when vehicles are transmitting high priority messages via QoSHVCP. Simulation results indicate
that simultaneous usage of preexisting network infrastructure along with intervehicular communication provide lower delays, while maintaining the level of user's performance. Our results show a great promise for their future use in VANETs
Game-theoretical design of an adaptive distributed dissemination protocol for VANETs
Road safety applications envisaged for Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) depend largely on the dissemination of warning messages to deliver information to concerned vehicles. The intended applications, as well as some inherent VANET characteristics, make data dissemination an essential service and a challenging task in this kind of networks. This work lays out a decentralized stochastic solution for the data dissemination problem through two game-theoretical mechanisms. Given the non-stationarity induced by a highly dynamic topology, diverse network densities, and intermittent connectivity, a solution for the formulated game requires an adaptive procedure able to exploit the environment changes. Broadcasting Protocol for Effective Data Dissemination in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks
VANET topology is very dynamic due to frequent movements of the nodes. Using beacon information connected dominated set are formed and nodes further enhanced with neighbor elimination scheme. With acknowledgement the inter section issues are solve. A modified Broadcast Conquest and Delay De-synchronization mechanism address the broadcasting storm issues. Although data dissemination is possible in all direction, the performance of data dissemination in the opposite direction is investigated and compared against the existing protocols
Delay Tolerant Networking over the Metropolitan Public Transportation
We discuss MDTN: a delay tolerant application platform built on top of the Public Transportation System (PTS) and able to provide service access while exploiting opportunistic connectivity. Our solution adopts a carrier-based approach where buses act as data collectors for user requests requiring Internet access. Simulations based on real maps and PTS routes with state-of-the-art routing protocols demonstrate that MDTN represents a viable solution for elastic nonreal-time service delivery. Nevertheless, performance indexes of the considered routing policies show that there is no golden rule for optimal performance and a tailored routing strategy is required for each specific case
BRT: Bus-based Routing Technique in Urban Vehicular Networks
International audienceRouting data in Vehicular Ad hoc Networks is still a challenging topic. The unpredictable mobility of nodes renders routing of data packets over optimal paths not always possible. Therefore, there is a need to enhance the routing service. Bus Rapid Transit systems, consisting of buses characterized by a regular mobility pattern, can be a good candidate for building a backbone to tackle the problem of uncontrolled mobility of nodes and to select appropriate routing paths for data delivery. For this purpose, we propose a new routing scheme called Bus-based Routing Technique (BRT) which exploits the periodic and predictable movement of buses to learn the required time (the temporal distance) for each data transmission to RoadSide Units (RSUs) through a dedicated bus-based backbone. Indeed, BRT comprises two phases: (i) Learning process which should be carried out, basically, one time to allow buses to build routing tables entries and expect the delay for routing data packets over buses, (ii) Data delivery process which exploits the pre-learned temporal distances to route data packets through the bus backbone towards an RSU (backbone mode). BRT uses other types of vehicles to boost the routing of data packets and also provides a maintenance procedure to deal with unexpected situations like a missing nexthop bus, which allows BRT to continue routing data packets. Simulation results show that BRT provides good performance results in terms of delivery ratio and end-to-end delay
