Adaptive Graph via Multiple Kernel Learning for Nonnegative Matrix Factorization
Nonnegative Matrix Factorization (NMF) has been continuously evolving in
several areas like pattern recognition and information retrieval methods. It
factorizes a matrix into a product of 2 low-rank non-negative matrices that
will define parts-based, and linear representation of nonnegative data.
Recently, Graph regularized NMF (GrNMF) is proposed to find a compact
representation, which uncovers the hidden semantics and simultaneously respects
the intrinsic geometric structure. In GNMF, an affinity graph is constructed
from the original data space to encode the geometrical information. In this
paper, we propose a novel idea which engages a Multiple Kernel Learning
approach into refining the graph structure that reflects the factorization of
the matrix and the new data space. The GrNMF is improved by utilizing the graph
refined by the kernel learning, and then a novel kernel learning method is
introduced under the GrNMF framework. Our approach shows encouraging results of
the proposed algorithm in comparison to the state-of-the-art clustering
algorithms like NMF, GrNMF, SVD etc.Comment: This paper has been withdrawn by the author due to the terrible

Learning feed-forward one-shot learners
One-shot learning is usually tackled by using generative models or
discriminative embeddings. Discriminative methods based on deep learning, which
are very effective in other learning scenarios, are ill-suited for one-shot
learning as they need large amounts of training data. In this paper, we propose
a method to learn the parameters of a deep model in one shot. We construct the
learner as a second deep network, called a learnet, which predicts the
parameters of a pupil network from a single exemplar. In this manner we obtain
an efficient feed-forward one-shot learner, trained end-to-end by minimizing a
one-shot classification objective in a learning to learn formulation. In order
to make the construction feasible, we propose a number of factorizations of the
parameters of the pupil network. We demonstrate encouraging results by learning
characters from single exemplars in Omniglot, and by tracking visual objects
from a single initial exemplar in the Visual Object Tracking benchmark.Comment: The first three authors contributed equally, and are listed in

The Incremental Multiresolution Matrix Factorization Algorithm
Multiresolution analysis and matrix factorization are foundational tools in
computer vision. In this work, we study the interface between these two
distinct topics and obtain techniques to uncover hierarchical block structure
in symmetric matrices -- an important aspect in the success of many vision
problems. Our new algorithm, the incremental multiresolution matrix
factorization, uncovers such structure one feature at a time, and hence scales
well to large matrices. We describe how this multiscale analysis goes much
farther than what a direct global factorization of the data can identify. We
evaluate the efficacy of the resulting factorizations for relative leveraging
within regression tasks using medical imaging data. We also use the
factorization on representations learned by popular deep networks, providing
evidence of their ability to infer semantic relationships even when they are
not explicitly trained to do so. We show that this algorithm can be used as an
exploratory tool to improve the network architecture, and within numerous other
settings in vision.Comment: Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR) 2017, 10 page
Online multi-modal robust non-negative dictionary learning for visual tracking

Dictionary learning is a method of acquiring a collection of atoms for subsequent signal representation. Due to its excellent representation ability, dictionary learning has been widely applied in multimedia and computer vision. However, conventional dictionary learning algorithms fail to deal with multi-modal datasets. In this paper, we propose an online multi-modal robust non-negative dictionary learning (OMRNDL) algorithm to overcome this deficiency. Notably, OMRNDL casts visual tracking as a dictionary learning problem under the particle filter framework and captures the intrinsic knowledge about the target from multiple visual modalities, e.g., pixel intensity and texture information. To this end, OMRNDL adaptively learns an individual dictionary, i.e., template, for each modality from available frames, and then represents new particles over all the learned dictionaries by minimizing the fitting loss of data based on M-estimation. The resultant representation coefficient can be viewed as the common semantic representation of particles across multiple modalities, and can be utilized to track the target. OMRNDL incrementally learns the dictionary and the coefficient of each particle by using multiplicative update rules to respectively guarantee their non-negativity constraints. Experimental results on a popular challenging video benchmark validate the effectiveness of OMRNDL for visual tracking in both quantity and quality
