The main objective of the project is to use the touch sensitive device capability of the iPad to give a better user experience and functionalities for the artists. In this project, I have explored different interactions that can give a better experience for artist when compared to traditional computer-mouse interaction. In the traditional Computer-mouse interaction it is very difficult for the user to draw smooth curves, without having to use built-in functions for drawing curves. In this application the user can use the touch panel to do free drawing, the user can basically feel the device as a object for drawing like in real life. Drawing on the touch device eliminates a use of another hardware to interact with the Interface of the system. In this application the user can use multi-touch points to zoom and pan, the user can also choose colors from a color wheel, the changable pen and eraser size. The pen size is varied based on the touch of the user touch radius. The Important functionality of the project is, the application lets the user to obtain subtractive color blending. User can also add a image to the background from the photo library and add more colors to the image. User can also zoom and draw, which adds the advantage of being able to modify the minute details of the drawing. Different actions can be performed on the image drawn, like copy, save to gallery, email and different services are also built into the app to allow the users to share the image to online services like Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr

Art, as an expression of feelings, worldviews, and personal beliefs, is a reflection of our environment and how we interact with it. In this way, urban art such as rap music and graffiti can serve as a lens through which we are able to examine the state of the urban environment. Building on community literature that addresses the presence of nihilism in rap music, this work will establish that nihilism is a prevalent theme in the work of two artists: Tyler the Creator\u27s rap music and BANKSY\u27s graffiti art. By examining the growing subculture and appeal of urban art in relation to these two artists, this paper will argue that BANKSY and Tyler the Creator belong to a new wave of urban art, one that appeals to and originates from people of all races and classes. The current work will then examine these artists\u27 motives in including nihilism within their art in order to argue that the disillusionment and nihilism once found primarily within inner cities is now spreading to new frontiers. Using this analysis, the current work will raise questions as to the possible causes and consequences of this spreading nihilistic mindset

Materials Selection and Processing Techniques for Small Spacecraft Solar Cell Arrays

Body mounted germanium substrate solar cell arrays form the faces of many small satellite designs to provide the primary power source on orbit. High efficiency solar cells are made affordable for university satellite programs as triangular devices trimmed from wafer scale solar cells. The smaller cells allow array designs to pack tightly around antenna mounts and payload instruments, giving the board design flexibility. One objective of this work is to investigate the reliability of solar cells attached to FR-4 printed circuit boards. FR-4 circuit boards have significantly higher thermal expansion coefficients and lower thermal conductivities than germanium. This thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between the FR-4 board and the components causes concern for the power system in terms of failures seen by the solar cells. These failures are most likely to occur with a longer orbital lifetime and an extended exposure to harsh environments. This work compares various methods of attaching solar cells to printed circuit boards, using solder paste alone and with a silicone adhesive, and considering the application of these adhesives by comparing the solder joints when printed by screen versus a stencil. An environmental test plan was used to compare the survivability and performance of the solar arrays

Abstract. The increase in mobile network data usage has led to interests in mm-wave frequencies (for example 26.5–29.5 GHz) on becoming fifth generation (5G) networks in addition to previously used sub-6 GHz frequencies. The advantage of mm-wave frequencies is larger bandwidth, leading to larger throughput with a tradeoff of smaller coverage due to shorter wavelength. The coverage issue can be compensated by using antenna arrays instead of one antenna. There have been some studies about stacking antenna module package vertically on motherboard, and in more advanced approach, the RFIC is integrated into the bottom of the antenna module package. This thesis concentrates on developing the interconnection between two PWBs on mm-wave frequency (26.5–29.5 GHz) between the antenna module and motherboard. More accurately, creating interconnection around via structure, carrying RF-signal from antenna module to motherboard by applying vertical stacking. This method may reduce the overall price of the system, while increasing the level of integration in the system. The overall aim of this thesis was to provide a functional and optimized interconnection method with measurement results and limitations of Nokia Factory. The interconnection can be created by using electromagnetic coupling or galvanic connection. The galvanic connection was chosen for many reasons and different interconnection methods applying galvanic connection were introduced. These methods include LGA and BGA soldering, traditional RF-connector and antenna array connector with 16-ports. After considering the options and Nokia Factory limitations, the most suitable interconnection method turned out to be LGA soldering. The research work includes partial design of antenna module and motherboard, and the optimization for connection. Prototypes were created based on the design, and the measurement results and conclusions of interconnection functionality were provided as well. Six prototypes were made, from which prototypes 3–6 were functional in terms of solder height. The measurement results show that there was variation in matching between different prototypes and between simulation and measurement results. By doing x-ray and failure analysis, a few reasons were found to explain the variation. One reason can be found from voids in signal soldering, which widens the soldering horizontally, leading to decreased matching due to changed solder diameter and asymmetric grounding. However, by utilizing the solder bumping method, the appearance and diameter of voids can be minimized. The conclusion with prototypes was that the system functions well, but improvements are recommended, and simulations should be re-done with modifications from failure analysis. Overall, the aim of the thesis was reached.Antennimoduulipaketin liitäntöjen kehittäminen millimetriaalto taajuuksille. Tiivistelmä. Datankäytön jatkuvan kasvun takia viidennen sukupolven (5G) matkapuhelinteknologian kehitys on keskittynyt aiemmin käytettyjen alle 6 GHz taajuuksien lisäksi uusille, korkeammille, millimetriaaltojen (esim. 26.5–29.5 GHz) taajuuskaistalle. Korkeammat taajuudet tarjoavat mahdollisuuden käyttää suurempia kaistanleveyksiä kasvattaen läpikulkevan datan määrää, mutta sen hintana on signaalin kantomatkan pienentyminen aallonpituuden pienentymisen takia. Kantomatkan lyhenemistä voidaan kuitenkin kompensoida käyttämällä antenniryhmiä yksittäisten antennien asemasta. Antenniryhmien integroinnista systeemiin on tehty erilaisia tutkimuksia, joita ovat esimerkiksi vertikaalinen pinoaminen, jossa antennilevy juotetaan toiselle piirilevylle. Edistyksellisemmässä versiossa kyseisen antennilevyn pohjaan on liitetty RFIC piiri. Prototyyppejä tehtiin kaikkiaan kuusi, joista viimeiset 3–6 olivat onnistuneita juotospaksuuden perusteella.

Evaluation of Different LiDAR Technologies for the Documentation of Forgotten Cultural Heritage under Forest Environments

In the present work, three LiDAR technologies (Faro Focus 3D X130—Terrestrial Laser Scanner, TLS-, Kaarta Stencil 2–16—Mobile mapping system, MMS-, and DJI Zenmuse L1—Airborne LiDAR sensor, ALS-) have been tested and compared in order to assess the performances in surveying built heritage in vegetated areas. Each of the mentioned devices has their limits of usability, and different methods to capture and generate 3D point clouds need to be applied. In addition, it has been necessary to apply a methodology to be able to position all the point clouds in the same reference system. While the TLS scans and the MMS data have been geo-referenced using a set of vertical markers and sphere measured by a GNSS receiver in RTK mode, the ALS model has been geo-referenced by the GNSS receiver integrated in the unmanned aerial system (UAS), which presents different characteristics and accuracies. The resulting point clouds have been analyzed and compared, focusing attention on the number of points acquired by the different systems, the density, and the nearest neighbor distance

Resistance: revealing and exposing the constructions of societal control

    Get PDF
This practice based visual arts investigation was triggered by the researcher’s social understandings and personal concern about societal control on the individual, and his resistance to the negative effects of consumerism and capitalism. Through this research project he aims to reveal and expose the workings of those systems of control visually. He pays particular attention to our current global, cultural and socio-political, economic order and the limitations that are imposed on the individual in terms of freedom of choice and expression, and through both the written work and the practical work he aims to influence a revolution of the mind and to encourage critical consciousness and awareness on the part of its audience regarding how individuals are manipulated, distracted and seduced into conformity. As an outcome of his research, and of his intention to act as an agent for socially aware creative practice, he presents a tentative framework for the use of emerging, socially conscious artists and educators. The practical component of this study is focused around the creation and display of graffiti-influenced images in both public and gallery spaces. The researcher makes extensive use of the SI’s subversive artistic technique of Détournement as he engages with the notion of ‘distraction’. This project, with its dual focus on text and on the creation of artworks in both public and gallery spaces, is intended as a contribution to the search for new critical understandings and diagnostic terminologies around social control
