Multiple Moving Object Recognitions in video based on Log Gabor-PCA Approach
Object recognition in the video sequence or images is one of the sub-field of
computer vision. Moving object recognition from a video sequence is an
appealing topic with applications in various areas such as airport safety,
intrusion surveillance, video monitoring, intelligent highway, etc. Moving
object recognition is the most challenging task in intelligent video
surveillance system. In this regard, many techniques have been proposed based
on different methods. Despite of its importance, moving object recognition in
complex environments is still far from being completely solved for low
resolution videos, foggy videos, and also dim video sequences. All in all,
these make it necessary to develop exceedingly robust techniques. This paper
introduces multiple moving object recognition in the video sequence based on
LoG Gabor-PCA approach and Angle based distance Similarity measures techniques
used to recognize the object as a human, vehicle etc. Number of experiments are
conducted for indoor and outdoor video sequences of standard datasets and also
our own collection of video sequences comprising of partial night vision video
sequences. Experimental results show that our proposed approach achieves an
excellent recognition rate. Results obtained are satisfactory and competent.Comment: 8,26,conferenc
Improving Texture Categorization with Biologically Inspired Filtering
Within the domain of texture classification, a lot of effort has been spent
on local descriptors, leading to many powerful algorithms. However,
preprocessing techniques have received much less attention despite their
important potential for improving the overall classification performance. We
address this question by proposing a novel, simple, yet very powerful
biologically-inspired filtering (BF) which simulates the performance of human
retina. In the proposed approach, given a texture image, after applying a DoG
filter to detect the "edges", we first split the filtered image into two "maps"
alongside the sides of its edges. The feature extraction step is then carried
out on the two "maps" instead of the input image. Our algorithm has several
advantages such as simplicity, robustness to illumination and noise, and
discriminative power. Experimental results on three large texture databases
show that with an extremely low computational cost, the proposed method
improves significantly the performance of many texture classification systems,
notably in noisy environments. The source codes of the proposed algorithm can

Curved Gabor Filters for Fingerprint Image Enhancement
Gabor filters play an important role in many application areas for the
enhancement of various types of images and the extraction of Gabor features.
For the purpose of enhancing curved structures in noisy images, we introduce
curved Gabor filters which locally adapt their shape to the direction of flow.
These curved Gabor filters enable the choice of filter parameters which
increase the smoothing power without creating artifacts in the enhanced image.
In this paper, curved Gabor filters are applied to the curved ridge and valley
structure of low-quality fingerprint images. First, we combine two orientation
field estimation methods in order to obtain a more robust estimation for very
noisy images. Next, curved regions are constructed by following the respective
local orientation and they are used for estimating the local ridge frequency.
Lastly, curved Gabor filters are defined based on curved regions and they are
applied for the enhancement of low-quality fingerprint images. Experimental
results on the FVC2004 databases show improvements of this approach in
comparison to state-of-the-art enhancement methods
Feature-based Lucas-Kanade and Active Appearance Models
Lucas-Kanade and Active Appearance Models are among the most commonly used methods for image alignment and facial fitting, respectively. They both utilize non-linear gradient descent, which is usually applied on intensity values. In this paper, we propose the employment of highly-descriptive, densely-sampled image features for both problems. We show that the strategy of warping the multi-channel dense feature image at each iteration is more beneficial than extracting features after warping the intensity image at each iteration. Motivated by this observation, we demonstrate robust and accurate alignment and fitting performance using a variety of powerful feature descriptors. Especially with the employment of HOG and SIFT features, our method significantly outperforms the current state-of-the-art results on in-the-wild databases
Multi-spectral palmprint recognition based on oriented multiscale log-Gabor filters
Among several palmprint recognition methods proposed recently, coding-based approaches using multi-spectral palmprint images are attractive owing to their high recognition rates. Aiming to further improve the performance of these approaches, this paper presents a novel multi-spectral palmprint recognition approach based on oriented multiscale log-Gabor filters. The proposed method aims to enhance the recognition performances by proposing novel solutions at three stages of the recognition process. Inspired by the bitwise competitive coding, the feature extraction employs a multi-resolution log-Gabor filtering where the final feature map is composed of the winning codes of the lowest filters’ bank response. The matching process employs a bitwise Hamming distance and Kullback–Leibler divergence as novel metrics to enable an efficient capture of the intra- and inter-similarities between palmprint feature maps. Finally, the decision stage is carried pout using a fusion of the scores generated from different spectral bands to reduce overlapping. In addition, a fusion of the feature maps through two proposed novel feature fusion techniques to allow us to eliminate the inherent redundancy of the features of neighboring spectral bands is also proposed. The experimental results obtained using the multi-spectral palmprint database MS-PolyU have shown that the proposed method achieves high accuracy in mono-spectral and multi-spectral recognition performances for both verification and identification modes; and also outperforms the state-of-the-art methods
