At the Queen Sirikit Centre for Breast Cancer in Bangkok, Thailand, the current food trolleys present a potential risk to the Centre\u27s staff, patients, and building. Our goal was to provide recommendations to improve their food delivery system. To accomplish this, we determined the needs of each stakeholder at the Centre and designed a trolley to address these needs. We further determined a manufacturer for our potential design and provided suggestions for the successful implementation of the trolley

Beltline: A History of the Atlanta Beltline and its Associated Historic Resources

Prepared by the Spring 2006 Preservation Planning Class. This project, developed in a collaborative effort by the Atlanta Urban Design commission and GSU students, was designed to highlight the history of the proposed redevelopment nodes along the Beltline, which is an outer band railroad line encircling the city. Community, Spirit, and Soul in the Lower Ninth Ward

Five years ago, New Orleans was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. Since then, the city has almost made a full recovery; except for the Lower Ninth Ward. Limited efforts to rebuild housing and no consideration for social and community infrastructure made it nearly impossible for former residents to come home. However, the spirit of the Lower Ninth Ward stays alive in the festive Second Line parade culture of the people who continue to come back every weekend to dance down the streets and celebrate with one another, making the public street the symbol of community life. This thesis explores the cultural and social fabric of the Lower Ninth Ward in order to propose an appropriate architectural intervention to function as an epicenter for community life and serve as a catalyst for rebuilding. The design proposition includes an intervention along the neutral ground on Claiborne Avenue with market, bar, performance, and festival spaces across the intersection of Claiborne and Forstall Street. Urban farming plots for the community are allocated along the rest of the neutral ground. To supplement these community spaces, design guidelines are provided for live/work commercial units along part of Claiborne, and housing guidelines are assigned for the remaining blocks along Claiborne and the rest of the Lower Ninth Ward

‘One must eliminate the effects of … diffuse circulation [and] their unstable and dangerous coagulation’: Foucault and beyond the stopping of mobilities

Foucault spent time investigating the stopping of mobilities, notably when studying carceral spaces such as asylums and prisons which effectively immobilise their inmates at a societal scale. In Discipline and Punish, he speculates on how such spaces are designed to put a stop to casual ‘nomadisms’. The purpose here is to inspect this aspect of Foucault’s thinking, particularly to recover what he also said about the regulation and cultivation of mobilities within the depths of immobility. Attention is also drawn to an engagement with mobility-immobility appearing in Foucault’s little-discussed Psychiatric Power lectures, prompted by the ideas and practices of Edouard Seguin, an educator of ‘idiot’ children, whose own words provide additional ‘empirical’ weight to an emerging argument. Reading the unabridged English translation of Madness and Civilization, a final claim is that Foucault’s phenomenology of ‘madness’ depends upon unruly mobilities within the asylum, the very stuff of ‘unstable and dangerous coagulation’. The overall ambition is to furnish an alternative account of Foucault and mobilities, concentrating on those Foucauldian texts initially seeming the least promising for scholars of mobilities
