    A supply chain is a network of facilities and distribution channels that encompasses the procurement of materials, production, assembly and delivery of product or service to the customer. The management of the supply chain and the roles of various actors involved differ from industry to industry and company to company. As a result Supply Chain Management (SCM) has become a vital issue for manufacturers, professionals and researchers. It is felt that to manage the supply chain effectively entire structure of supply chain must be understood properly. This paper attempts to provide the reader a complete picture of supply chain management through a systematic literature review. It presents a state of art on SCM by systematically arranging main activities in supply chain.     Artificial intelligence (AI) is simply a way of providing a computer or a machine to think intelligently like human beings. Since human intelligence is a complex abstraction, scientists have only recently began to understand and make certain assumptions on how people think and to apply these assumptions in order to design AI programs. It is a vast knowledge base discipline that covers reasoning, machine learning, planning, intelligent search, and perception building. Traditional AI had the limitations to meet the increasing demand of search, optimization, and machine learning in the areas of large, biological, and commercial database information systems and management of factory automation for different industries such as power, automobile, aerospace, and chemical plants. The drawbacks of classical AI became more pronounced due to successive failures of the decade long Japanese project on fifth generation computing machines. The limitation of traditional AI gave rise to development of new computational methods in various applications of engineering and management problems. As a result, these computational techniques emerged as a new discipline called computational intelligence (CI)

    Building information modeling acceptance and readiness assessment in Taiwanese architectural firms

    Building information modeling (BIM) has received considerable recognition in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry because it can potentially reduce costs and delivery time and improve quality. Conscious of the benefits derived by adopting BIM, the Taiwanese government is planning to enact a policy that would incorporate BIM-based e-submission into the Taiwanese building permit review process, revolutionizing the local AEC industry. Nevertheless, the effects of BIM application are unpredictable. The aim of this study was to investigate the current status of BIM adoption in 224 Taiwanese architectural firms, assess how accepting and ready the firms were to implement BIM, and create a predictive model that can be used by decision makers who are considering adopting BIM. The results revealed that approximately one-third of the firms surveyed had already adopted BIM-based tools. More than half of the firms were willing to use BIM-based tools to streamline the building permit review process; however, their willingness was strongly influenced by governmental policies, competitor motivation, financial incentives, and technological support. The challenges, problems, and opportunities related to adopting BIM were discussed. Lessons learned from the experiences of the Taiwanese firms may be useful to firms facing similar situations and challenges in other countries. First published online: 27 Jun 201
