A semantic content analysis model for sports video based on perception concepts and finite state machines
In automatic video content analysis domain, the key challenges are how to recognize important objects and how to model the spatiotemporal relationships between them. In this paper we propose a semantic content analysis model based on Perception Concepts (PCs) and Finite State Machines (FSMs) to automatically describe and detect significant semantic content within sports video. PCs are defined to represent important semantic patterns for sports videos based on identifiable feature elements. PC-FSM models are designed to describe spatiotemporal relationships between PCs. And graph matching method is used to detect high-level semantic automatically. A particular strength of this approach is that users are able to design their own highlights and transfer the detection problem into a graph matching problem. Bisimulation, the Supervisory Control Problem and Strong Model Matching for Finite State Machines
A fundamental relationship between the controllability of a language with respect to another language and a set of uncontrollable events in the Supervisory Control Theory initiated by (Ramadge and Wonham, 1989) and bisimulation of automata models is derived. The theoretical results relating bisimulation to controllability support an efficient solution to the Basic Supervisory Control Problem. Using (Fernandez, 1990) generalization of the partition refinement algorithm of (Paige and Tarjan, 1987), it is possible to find a partition which represents the supremal controllable sublanguage of an automaton with respect to the language of another automaton and a set of events in a worst-case running time of O( m log( n )), where m is the number of transitions and n is the number of states. Utilizing the bisimulation property of language controllability and derived relationships between automata languages and input/output finite-state machine behaviors, a precise relationship is formally derived between Supervisory Control Theory and the system-theoretic problem posed by (DiBenedetto et al., 1994) called Strong Input/Output FSM Model Matching. Communicating Actor Automata -- Modelling Erlang Processes as Communicating Machines
Brand and Zafiropulo's notion of Communicating Finite-State Machines (CFSMs)
provides a succinct and powerful model of message-passing concurrency, based
around channels. However, a major variant of message-passing concurrency is not
readily captured by CFSMs: the actor model. In this work, we define a variant
of CFSMs, called Communicating Actor Automata, to capture the actor model of
concurrency as provided by Erlang: with mailboxes, from which messages are
received according to repeated application of pattern matching. Furthermore,
this variant of CFSMs supports dynamic process topologies, capturing common
programming idioms in the context of actor-based message-passing concurrency.
This gives a new basis for modelling, specifying, and verifying Erlang
programs. We also consider a class of CAAs that give rise to freedom from race

The Geometry of Concurrent Interaction: Handling Multiple Ports by Way of Multiple Tokens (Long Version)
We introduce a geometry of interaction model for Mazza's multiport
interaction combinators, a graph-theoretic formalism which is able to
faithfully capture concurrent computation as embodied by process algebras like
the -calculus. The introduced model is based on token machines in which
not one but multiple tokens are allowed to traverse the underlying net at the
same time. We prove soundness and adequacy of the introduced model. The former
is proved as a simulation result between the token machines one obtains along
any reduction sequence. The latter is obtained by a fine analysis of
convergence, both in nets and in token machines
Verification for Timed Automata extended with Unbounded Discrete Data Structures
We study decidability of verification problems for timed automata extended
with unbounded discrete data structures. More detailed, we extend timed
automata with a pushdown stack. In this way, we obtain a strong model that may
for instance be used to model real-time programs with procedure calls. It is
long known that the reachability problem for this model is decidable. The goal
of this paper is to identify subclasses of timed pushdown automata for which
the language inclusion problem and related problems are decidable
Reachability Analysis of Communicating Pushdown Systems
The reachability analysis of recursive programs that communicate
asynchronously over reliable FIFO channels calls for restrictions to ensure
decidability. Our first result characterizes communication topologies with a
decidable reachability problem restricted to eager runs (i.e., runs where
messages are either received immediately after being sent, or never received).
The problem is EXPTIME-complete in the decidable case. The second result is a
doubly exponential time algorithm for bounded context analysis in this setting,
together with a matching lower bound. Both results extend and improve previous
work from La Torre et al
On the decidability and complexity of Metric Temporal Logic over finite words
Metric Temporal Logic (MTL) is a prominent specification formalism for
real-time systems. In this paper, we show that the satisfiability problem for
MTL over finite timed words is decidable, with non-primitive recursive
complexity. We also consider the model-checking problem for MTL: whether all
words accepted by a given Alur-Dill timed automaton satisfy a given MTL
formula. We show that this problem is decidable over finite words. Over
infinite words, we show that model checking the safety fragment of MTL--which
includes invariance and time-bounded response properties--is also decidable.
These results are quite surprising in that they contradict various claims to
the contrary that have appeared in the literature
One-Tape Turing Machine Variants and Language Recognition
We present two restricted versions of one-tape Turing machines. Both
characterize the class of context-free languages. In the first version,
proposed by Hibbard in 1967 and called limited automata, each tape cell can be
rewritten only in the first visits, for a fixed constant .
Furthermore, for deterministic limited automata are equivalent to
deterministic pushdown automata, namely they characterize deterministic
context-free languages. Further restricting the possible operations, we
consider strongly limited automata. These models still characterize
context-free languages. However, the deterministic version is less powerful
than the deterministic version of limited automata. In fact, there exist
deterministic context-free languages that are not accepted by any deterministic
