Teaching case: Leading the change - ERP implementation at Keda
Recently, several disasters have affected the tourism industry. In order to mitigate the effects of
disasters, increasing the level of preparedness is essential. However, despite the devastating effect
disasters can have on tourism, few tourism organizations have properly developed disaster strategies
as an integral part of their business plans. Emergency management systems that utilize mobile
communication infrastructures can provide prompt information delivery to save human lives. Several
supra-national initiatives and research projects are working on possibilities to facilitate mobile
communication networks for emergency management systems. However, the success of such systems
depends on users being familiar with the service, which is difficult to achieve, if the system is solely
used for emergency management. Therefore, we propose a system design that allows the integration of
mobile value-adding services. We also present exemplary services, which offer value to tourists and
create business opportunities for the tourism industry. The central component of our proposed system
design is a service platform, which communicates with mobile network operators and provides basic
services for service providers from the tourism industry and the emergency manager via service
interfaces
A Process Framework for Semantics-aware Tourism Information Systems
The growing sophistication of user requirements in tourism due to the advent of new technologies such as the Semantic Web and mobile computing has imposed new possibilities for improved intelligence in Tourism Information Systems (TIS). Traditional software engineering and web engineering approaches cannot suffice, hence the need to find new product development approaches that would sufficiently enable the next generation of TIS. The next generation of TIS are expected among other things to: enable
semantics-based information processing, exhibit natural language capabilities, facilitate inter-organization exchange of information in a seamless way, and
evolve proactively in tandem with dynamic user requirements. In this paper, a product development approach called Product Line for Ontology-based Semantics-Aware Tourism Information Systems (PLOSATIS) which is a novel

Implementation of an Interactive Crowd-Enhanced Content Management System for Tourism Development
This paper investigated the role of interactive tourist mobile apps in tourism development. The researchers presented the e-Tracer application, which was developed taking into consideration the recent advantages in mobile computing, the importance of user-generated content and the needs of northern Greece and the lower Balkan countries. Apart from crowd-based content creation, a new generation of apps for tourism development may include additional components like serious games for tourists, map-based navigation systems and augmented/virtual reality applications, in order to offer memorable user experiences for tourists. An agile content management system design methodology was followed by taking into account the needs of alternative tourist destinations, small to medium sized real-world museums and driver rest areas located around highways which connect cross-country destinations in the lower Balkan countries and Turkey. This work positioned the role of interactive crowd-enhanced platforms for content management of tourist-related information in tourism development, economic growth and sustainability of the Egnatia motorway surrounding areas in Greece.

Multi-stakeholder assessment of a Mobile and Temporarily Interconnected Systems prototype: People-First Tourism
While tourism has often been proposed as a mechanism for equitable and sustainable development in developing countries, most destination communities remain relegated to the role of passive “tourees” who are unable to participate in economic opportunities often controlled by tourism retail monopolies. Guided by information systems (IS) research on mobile and temporarily interconnected systems (MTIS), this work examines the ubiquitous nature of information services for users on the move. That is, users that are largely dependent on mobile telephones and temporary tourism services. Stakeholder interviews included local South African micro-entrepreneurs from under-resourced rural and peri-urban communities and other national and regional stakeholders. The findings informed the development and early implementation of a web marketplace for tourism micro-entrepreneurs (i.e., www.peoplefirsttourism.com) that bridges hyper-connected consumers with under-resourced micro-entrepreneurs who use simple mobile phones. Recommendation systems have been growing in number for the last fifteen years. To evolve and adapt to the demands of the actual society, many paradigms emerged giving birth to even more paradigms and hybrid approaches. Mobile devices have also been under an incredible growth rate in every business area, and there are already lots of mobile based systems to assist tourists. This explosive growth gave birth to different mobile applications, each having their own advantages and disadvantages. Since recommendation and mobile systems might as well be integrated, this work intends to present the current state of the art in tourism mobile and recommendation systems, as well as to state their advantages and disadvantages
CESARSC: Framework for creating Cultural Entertainment Systems with Augmented Reality in Smart Cities
The areas of application for augmented reality technology are heterogeneous but the content creation tools available are usually single-user desktop applications. Moreover, there is no online development tool that enables the creation of such digital content. This paper presents a framework for the creation of Cultural Entertainment Systems and Augmented Reality, employing cloud-based technologies and the interaction of heterogeneous mobile technology in real time in the field of mobile tourism. The proposed system allows players to carry out a series of games and challenges that will improve their tourism experience. Mobile interaction is about the stuff of people’s lives, focused on understanding and developing blueprints for systems that permeate the broad spectrum of their experiences. People can use system. They can take advantage of the system through mobile devices. Due to limitations in the display and display media such as mobile phones in presenting and giving information to the public, the design of interaction between the system and users will be very important, It is a thing to be considered to create a mobile internet-based information systems. Therefore, the application of mobile interaction design, especially in terms of mobile internet-based system, is needed so the system can be used optimally. Indonesia's tourism sector is one sector of the service economy. It has bright prospects for mobile interaction. However to enhance the role of development in Indonesia, is still one of many shortcomings that limited media information services. This study concerns in produce and information service system especially in tourism of Palangka Raya which apply the concept of mobile interaction design. To apply the concept of mobile interaction, there are three main activities. There are understanding users, developing prototype designs and evaluation. Percentage points is higher in the evaluation, indicates that the user is able to use the system and interact with the system and based on feedback from users, no complaints are ejected from the user in the system path. This provides an assessment of the success of the system design, system success and user satisfaction convey information to the system. Expected in the long periode, the system can increase tourism sector in the city of Palangka Raya

Tourism communities and social ties: the role of online and offline tourist social networks in building social capital and sustainable practice.
Mobile connectivity enables the adoption of new ways to connect with social networks which are changing how we might, and could, seek support. In the tourism domain we increasingly
blend online and offline presence to engage with social networks in the spatial location, at a distance and across time. This paper explores the forms of community that exist in physical tourism contexts, contexts not previously analysed through a community lens, and explores how mobile technology is creating connections within and beyond existing social networks. It examines how sustainable tourism can be enhanced by mobile connectivity through new space-time practices and using ephemeral interpersonal relationships to harness niche groups to create bottom-up social systems interested in sharing experiences, ideas and resources. Special attention is given to the concept of gelling socialities which proposes a less ridged network structure, and to the need to understand the increasingly liquid social dynamics of mobile social interactions. The paper adds to the theories surrounding community, social ties and tourism’s value to society. It draws on data from in-depth interviews undertaken while

Mobile Tour Assistant for Malaysia
Malaysia's tourism industry has seen a rapid growth rate for the past years, and played a
significant role in the development of the country's economy. 2007 is a special year for
Malaysian tourism since it is called the "Visit Malaysia" year in celebration of 50 years of
Independence. Information Technology has made remarkable contributions to the growth of
tourism industry in Malaysia. Its efforts to promote tourism range from websites providing
information to systems to service tourists. However, while countries with well-developed
tourism industry like France and Hong Kong have developed comprehensive tour assistant
packages for tourists, Malaysia is yet to do so. Thus, a comprehensive mobile tour package is
needed for Malaysia.
The objective of the project is to develop a well-designed tour assistant running on PDAs which
makes use of current trends in mobile applications such as the adoption of AI technique in
scheduling. Due to time and resource constraints, the project focuses on areas within and around
Kuala Lumpur and targets on short-stay and transit tourists.
Going through a thorough literature review and following the waterfall methodology, the project
has successfully developed a full package of mobile tour assistant including the back end and
front end. The project also makes contribution to creatively applying Genetic Algorithm, an AI
technique in plan auto-scheduling. The author hopes that the package will be of high commercial
value and contribute significantly to boosting Malaysia's tourism
