    Future Transport in Lambeth

    Air pollution in London is linked to thousands of deaths every year. This project aimed to aid the Lambeth Council in promoting emissions-based cashless parking payments and integrating smart city technology to maintain revenue, influence future policy, and reduce air pollution. To accomplish this, we analysed existing data, spoke with Council employees, and surveyed and interviewed residents. Combining the ideas of electronic parking payment and smart city technology, we created a web application to demonstrate how applying smart city technology to parking could reduce air pollution. We found that most residents would be willing to adopt an electronic parking payment method for lower prices, although a cash-based alternative in local businesses would be widely accepted

    A framework for the integration of mobile technology into adventure sport for the purpose of increasing participant safety

    The sporting industry has seen incredible advancements with the use of information technology. Technology is used in the sporting industry for training, coaching and even as a deciding factor of a game result. There are certain sports which require individuals to venture into isolated environments, these sports have been termed adventure or extreme sports. Due to the extreme environmental factors that can occur with adventure sport, it is possible for an individual to experience an emergency situation. Emergency situations can occur at any time, and this is especially true in adventure sport. Adventure sport such as ocean and river kayaking require individuals to venture into isolated environments, where if an emergency situation occurs could result in an individual left stranded waiting for emergency rescue. Adventure sport participants and Event Organizers are aware of the dangers associated with this type of adventure sport, but there is currently no requirement to have a mobile technology device present during kayaking events. The main purpose of this dissertation was to evaluate the current use of mobile technology in adventure sport in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. To accomplish this two literature reviews were conducted which identi_ed information on the two main themes which are adventure sport and mobile technology. To produce information from the ocean and river kayaking community an online questionnaire was distributed to several kayaking clubs in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. This dissertation also presents a framework that proposes the use of mobile technology hardware and software by participants and event organisers in an attempt to increase the safety of events in this form of adventure sport. It is hoped that the framework for using mobile technology to increase the safety of adventure sport proposed in this research, may provide clear guidance for the achievement of a safer sporting experience for the participants of ocean and river kayaking

    Awareness and perception of phishing variants from Policing, Computing and Criminology students in Canterbury Christ Church University

    This study focuses on gauging awareness of different phishing communication students in the School of Law, Policing and Social Sciences and the School of Engineering, Technology and Design in Canterbury Christ Church University and their perception of different phishing variants. There is an exploration of the underlying factors in which students fall victim to different types of phishing attacks from questionnaires and a focus group. The students’ perception of different types of phishing variants was varied from the focus group and anonymised questionnaires. A total of 177 respondents participated in anonymised questionnaires in the study. Students were asked a mixture of scenario-based questions on different phishing attacks, their awareness levels of security tools that can be used against some phishing variants, and if they received any phishing emails in the past. Additionally, 6 computing students in a focus group discussed different types of phishing attacks and recommended potential security countermeasures against them. The vulnerabilities and issues of anti-phishing software, firewalls, and internet browsers that have security toolbars are explained in the study against different types of phishing attacks. The focus group was with computing students and their knowledge about certain phishing variants was limited. The discussion within the focus group was gauging the computing students' understanding and awareness of phishing variants. The questionnaire data collection sample was with first year criminology and final year policing students which may have influenced the results of the questionnaire in terms of their understanding, security countermeasures, and how they identify certain phishing variants. The anonymised questionnaire awareness levels on different types of phishing fluctuated in terms of lack of awareness on certain phishing variants. Some criminology and policing students either did not know about phishing variants or had limited knowledge about different types of phishing communication, security countermeasures, the identifying features of a phishing message, and the precautions they should take against phishing variants from fraudsters
