Recent results from JLab on the electromagnetic excitation of nucleon
resonances are presented, and confronted with theoretical predictions.
Preliminary data in the search for undiscovered states are discussed as well.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figures, talk presented at Electron-Nucleus Scattering

Gauge invariant averages for the cosmological backreaction
We show how to provide suitable gauge invariant prescriptions for the
classical spatial averages (resp. quantum expectation values) that are needed
in the evaluation of classical (resp. quantum) backreaction effects. We also
present examples illustrating how the use of gauge invariant prescriptions can
avoid interpretation problems and prevent misleading conclusions.Comment: 21 pages, no figures. Comments and references added, typos corrected.

[Review of] Barry T. Klein. Reference Encyclopedia of the American Indian
First published in 1967, this is an indispensable resource for information about the current Indian population and its affairs. The title may be misleading since information about the Canadian Indian population is also provided. It does not offer any chronological history of the North American Indian complete with pictures and maps, such as Carl Waldman\u27s classical work, Atlas of the North American Indians, but instead provides a basic reference directory of current (1986) Indian activities, organizations, resources, and a who\u27s who in the Indian culture
On Hubbard-Stratonovich Transformations over Hyperbolic Domains
We discuss and prove validity of the Hubbard-Stratonovich (HS) identities
over hyperbolic domains which are used frequently in the studies on disordered
systems and random matrices. We also introduce a counterpart of the HS identity
arising in disordered systems with "chiral" symmetry. Apart from this we
outline a way of deriving the nonlinear -model from the gauge-invariant
Wegner orbital model avoiding the use of the HS transformations.Comment: More accurate proofs are given; a few misprints are corrected; a
misleading reference and a footnote in the end of section 2.2 are remove
A framework for forensic face recognition based on recognition performance calibrated for the quality of image pairs
Recently, it has been shown that performance of a face recognition system depends on the quality of both face images participating in the recognition process: the reference and the test image. In the context of forensic face recognition, this observation has two implications: a) the quality of the trace (extracted from CCTV footage) constrains the performance achievable using a particular face recognition system; b) the quality of the suspect reference set (to which the trace is matched against) can be judiciously chosen to approach optimal recognition performance under such a constraint. Motivated by these recent findings, we propose a framework for forensic face recognition that is based on calibrating the recognition performance for the quality of pairs of images. The application of this framework to several mock-up forensic cases, created entirely from the MultiPIE dataset, shows that optimal recognition performance, under such a constraint, can be achieved by matching the quality (pose, illumination, and, imaging device) of the reference set to that of the trace. This improvement in recognition performance helps reduce the rate of misleading interpretation of the evidence
Misleading Advertisement in Islamic Law and Consumer Law in Arab Countries
Advertising can greatly increase a companyâs revenue and it becomes part of companyâs promotion tool. Many companies invest significantly on advertising. Nonetheless, in attracting new customers, some advertising makes false promises, which is forbidden in Islam. This study highlights the notion of misleading advertisement from the Islamic perspective and from legal perspective based on the legislation in some Arab countries with special reference to Jordan. Islam allows business conducts so long that they abide by the principles of Shariâah. Hence, misleading practices, deception, unfairness, misrepresentation, force and injustice in measurement, are prohibited. This paper attempts to identify the Islamic standpoint towards misleading advertisement, to promote truthful advertising. Administrative Costs and Production Efficiency.
Economists providing policy advice often justify recommendations of government non-interference in the allocation of resources between production sectors and free trade with reference to the Diamond and Mirrlees efficiency theorem. However, such policy advice may be misleading when, as is in general the case, administrative costs effectively restrict the set of feasible tax instruments available to the government. Under plausible assumptions about the administrative costs of alternative tax structures optimal government policies may in fact be associated with significant production inefficiencies.
Bias in the journal impact factor
The ISI journal impact factor (JIF) is based on a sample that may represent
half the whole-of-life citations to some journals, but a small fraction (<10%)
of the citations accruing to other journals. This disproportionate sampling
means that the JIF provides a misleading indication of the true impact of
journals, biased in favour of journals that have a rapid rather than a
prolonged impact. Many journals exhibit a consistent pattern of citation
accrual from year to year, so it may be possible to adjust the JIF to provide a
more reliable indication of a journal's impact.Comment: 9 pages, 8 figures; one reference correcte
