A novel Big Data analytics and intelligent technique to predict driver's intent
Modern age offers a great potential for automatically predicting the driver's intent through the increasing miniaturization of computing technologies, rapid advancements in communication technologies and continuous connectivity of heterogeneous smart objects. Inside the cabin and engine of modern cars, dedicated computer systems need to possess the ability to exploit the wealth of information generated by heterogeneous data sources with different contextual and conceptual representations. Processing and utilizing this diverse and voluminous data, involves many challenges concerning the design of the computational technique used to perform this task. In this paper, we investigate the various data sources available in the car and the surrounding environment, which can be utilized as inputs in order to predict driver's intent and behavior. As part of investigating these potential data sources, we conducted experiments on e-calendars for a large number of employees, and have reviewed a number of available geo referencing systems. Through the results of a statistical analysis and by computing location recognition accuracy results, we explored in detail the potential utilization of calendar location data to detect the driver's intentions. In order to exploit the numerous diverse data inputs available in modern vehicles, we investigate the suitability of different Computational Intelligence (CI) techniques, and propose a novel fuzzy computational modelling methodology. Finally, we outline the impact of applying advanced CI and Big Data analytics techniques in modern vehicles on the driver and society in general, and discuss ethical and legal issues arising from the deployment of intelligent self-learning cars

Judging qualifcation, gender, and age of the observer based on gaze patterns when looking at faces
The research aimed to compare eye movement patterns of people looking at faces with different but subtle teeth imperfections. Both non-specialists and dental experts took part in the experiment. The research outcome includes the analysis of eye movement patterns depending on the specialization, gender, age, face gender, and level of teeth deformation. The study was performed using a novel, not widely explored features of eye movements, derived from recurrence plots and Gaze Self Similarity Plots. It occurred that most features are significantly different for laypeople and specialists. Signifcant differences were also found for gender and age among the observers. There were no differences found when comparing the gender of the face being observed and levels of imperfection. Interestingly, it was possible to defne which features are sensitive to gender and which to qualifcation

Diverse Contributions to Implicit Human-Computer Interaction
Cuando las personas interactúan con los ordenadores, hay mucha
información que no se proporciona a propósito. Mediante el estudio de estas
interacciones implícitas es posible entender qué características de la interfaz
de usuario son beneficiosas (o no), derivando así en implicaciones para el
diseño de futuros sistemas interactivos.
La principal ventaja de aprovechar datos implícitos del usuario en
aplicaciones informáticas es que cualquier interacción con el sistema puede
contribuir a mejorar su utilidad. Además, dichos datos eliminan el coste de
tener que interrumpir al usuario para que envíe información explícitamente
sobre un tema que en principio no tiene por qué guardar relación con la
intención de utilizar el sistema. Por el contrario, en ocasiones las
interacciones implícitas no proporcionan datos claros y concretos. Por ello,
hay que prestar especial atención a la manera de gestionar esta fuente de
información.
El propósito de esta investigación es doble: 1) aplicar una nueva visión tanto
al diseño como al desarrollo de aplicaciones que puedan reaccionar
consecuentemente a las interacciones implícitas del usuario, y 2)
proporcionar una serie de metodologías para la evaluación de dichos
sistemas interactivos. Cinco escenarios sirven para ilustrar la viabilidad y la
adecuación del marco de trabajo de la tesis. Resultados empíricos con
usuarios reales demuestran que aprovechar la interacción implícita es un
medio tanto adecuado como conveniente para mejorar de múltiples maneras

Navigating Transparent Pork Production: Analyzing Visual Attention of The Maschhoffs Website
When it comes to food, consumers are increasingly concerned with the welfare of the livestock used to produce it. To display transparency and build trust with patrons, businesses such as The Maschhoffs, a pork production company, have created online tools to answer questions about production processes. This study implemented eye tracking and survey methodologies to attain insight regarding the visual attention of website visitors. While results revealed no discernable pattern of navigation among respondents, the findings illustrated a sector of the pork industry consumers expressed interest in was the breed-to-wean section of the farm. Researchers encourage agricultural communicators to develop messaging surrounding this specific process to continue building trust with consumer audiences as well as make recommendations for utilizing eye tracking to assess visual attention to websites
