In this paper, we depict some of the most widely used data mining algorithms that have an overwhelming utility and influence in the research community. A data mining algorithm can be regarded as a tool that creates a data mining model. After analyzing a set of data, an algorithm searches for specific trends and patterns, then defines the parameters of the mining model based on the results of this analysis. The above defined parameters play a significant role in identifying and extracting actionable patterns and detailed statistics. The most important algorithms within this research refer to topics like clustering, classification, association analysis, statistical learning, link mining. In the following, after a brief description of each algorithm, we analyze its application potential and research issues concerning the optimization of the data mining process. After the presentation of the data mining algorithms, we will depict the most important data mining algorithms included in Microsoft and Oracle software products, useful suggestions and criteria in choosing the most recommended algorithm for solving a mentioned task, advantages offered by these software products.data mining optimization, data mining algorithms, software solutions

Using association rule mining to enrich semantic concepts for video retrieval

In order to achieve true content-based information retrieval on video we should analyse and index video with high-level semantic concepts in addition to using user-generated tags and structured metadata like title, date, etc. However the range of such high-level semantic concepts, detected either manually or automatically, usually limited compared to the richness of information content in video and the potential vocabulary of available concepts for indexing. Even though there is work to improve the performance of individual concept classiļ¬ers, we should strive to make the best use of whatever partial sets of semantic concept occurrences are available to us. We describe in this paper our method for using association rule mining to automatically enrich the representation of video content through a set of semantic concepts based on concept co-occurrence patterns. We describe our experiments on the TRECVid 2005 video corpus annotated with the 449 concepts of the LSCOM ontology. The evaluation of our results shows the usefulness of our approach

Encapsulation of Soft Computing Approaches within Itemset Mining a A Survey

Data Mining discovers patterns and trends by extracting knowledge from large databases. Soft Computing techniques such as fuzzy logic, neural networks, genetic algorithms, rough sets, etc. aims to reveal the tolerance for imprecision and uncertainty for achieving tractability, robustness and low-cost solutions. Fuzzy Logic and Rough sets are suitable for handling different types of uncertainty. Neural networks provide good learning and generalization. Genetic algorithms provide efficient search algorithms for selecting a model, from mixed media data. Data mining refers to information extraction while soft computing is used for information processing. For effective knowledge discovery from large databases, both Soft Computing and Data Mining can be merged. Association rule mining (ARM) and Itemset mining focus on finding most frequent item sets and corresponding association rules, extracting rare itemsets including temporal and fuzzy concepts in discovered patterns. This survey paper explores the usage of soft computing approaches in itemset utility mining

A Survey on Particle Swarm Optimization for Association Rule Mining

Association rule mining (ARM) is one of the core techniques of data mining to discover potentially valuable association relationships from mixed datasets. In the current research, various heuristic algorithms have been introduced into ARM to address the high computation time of traditional ARM. Although a more detailed review of the heuristic algorithms based on ARM is available, this paper differs from the existing reviews in that we expected it to provide a more comprehensive and multi-faceted survey of emerging research, which could provide a reference for researchers in the field to help them understand the state-of-the-art PSO-based ARM algorithms. In this paper, we review the existing research results. Heuristic algorithms for ARM were divided into three main groups, including biologically inspired, physically inspired, and other algorithms. Additionally, different types of ARM and their evaluation metrics are described in this paper, and the current status of the improvement in PSO algorithms is discussed in stages, including swarm initialization, algorithm parameter optimization, optimal particle update, and velocity and position updates. Furthermore, we discuss the applications of PSO-based ARM algorithms and propose further research directions by exploring the existing problems.publishedVersio
