On Reasoning with RDF Statements about Statements using Singleton Property Triples
The Singleton Property (SP) approach has been proposed for representing and
querying metadata about RDF triples such as provenance, time, location, and
evidence. In this approach, one singleton property is created to uniquely
represent a relationship in a particular context, and in general, generates a
large property hierarchy in the schema. It has become the subject of important
questions from Semantic Web practitioners. Can an existing reasoner recognize
the singleton property triples? And how? If the singleton property triples
describe a data triple, then how can a reasoner infer this data triple from the
singleton property triples? Or would the large property hierarchy affect the
reasoners in some way? We address these questions in this paper and present our
study about the reasoning aspects of the singleton properties. We propose a
simple mechanism to enable existing reasoners to recognize the singleton
property triples, as well as to infer the data triples described by the
singleton property triples. We evaluate the effect of the singleton property
triples in the reasoning processes by comparing the performance on RDF datasets
with and without singleton properties. Our evaluation uses as benchmark the
LUBM datasets and the LUBM-SP datasets derived from LUBM with temporal
information added through singleton properties

Representing chord sequences in OWL
Chord symbols and progressions are a common way to describe musical harmony. In this paper we present SEQ, a pattern representation using the Web Ontology Language OWL DL and its application to modelling chord sequences. SEQ provides a logical representation of order information, which is not available directly in OWL DL, together with an intuitive notation. It therefore allows the use of OWL reasoners for tasks such as classification of sequences by patterns and determining subsumption relationships between the patterns. The SEQ representation is used to express distinctive pattern obtained using data mining of multiple viewpoints of chord sequences
A Novel Approach to Multimedia Ontology Engineering for Automated Reasoning over Audiovisual LOD Datasets
Multimedia reasoning, which is suitable for, among others, multimedia content
analysis and high-level video scene interpretation, relies on the formal and
comprehensive conceptualization of the represented knowledge domain. However,
most multimedia ontologies are not exhaustive in terms of role definitions, and
do not incorporate complex role inclusions and role interdependencies. In fact,
most multimedia ontologies do not have a role box at all, and implement only a
basic subset of the available logical constructors. Consequently, their
application in multimedia reasoning is limited. To address the above issues,
VidOnt, the very first multimedia ontology with SROIQ(D) expressivity and a
DL-safe ruleset has been introduced for next-generation multimedia reasoning.
In contrast to the common practice, the formal grounding has been set in one of
the most expressive description logics, and the ontology validated with
industry-leading reasoners, namely HermiT and FaCT++. This paper also presents
best practices for developing multimedia ontologies, based on my ontology
engineering approach
