Universal Loop-Free Super-Stabilization
We propose an univesal scheme to design loop-free and super-stabilizing
protocols for constructing spanning trees optimizing any tree metrics (not only
those that are isomorphic to a shortest path tree). Our scheme combines a novel
super-stabilizing loop-free BFS with an existing self-stabilizing spanning tree
that optimizes a given metric. The composition result preserves the best
properties of both worlds: super-stabilization, loop-freedom, and optimization
of the original metric without any stabilization time penalty. As case study we
apply our composition mechanism to two well known metric-dependent spanning
trees: the maximum-flow tree and the minimum degree spanning tree

Speeding-up Dynamic Programming with Representative Sets - An Experimental Evaluation of Algorithms for Steiner Tree on Tree Decompositions
Dynamic programming on tree decompositions is a frequently used approach to
solve otherwise intractable problems on instances of small treewidth. In recent
work by Bodlaender et al., it was shown that for many connectivity problems,
there exist algorithms that use time, linear in the number of vertices, and
single exponential in the width of the tree decomposition that is used. The
central idea is that it suffices to compute representative sets, and these can
be computed efficiently with help of Gaussian elimination.
In this paper, we give an experimental evaluation of this technique for the
Steiner Tree problem. A comparison of the classic dynamic programming algorithm
and the improved dynamic programming algorithm that employs the table reduction
shows that the new approach gives significant improvements on the running time
of the algorithm and the size of the tables computed by the dynamic programming
algorithm, and thus that the rank based approach from Bodlaender et al. does
not only give significant theoretical improvements but also is a viable
approach in a practical setting, and showcases the potential of exploiting the
idea of representative sets for speeding up dynamic programming algorithms
Worst-Case Growth Rates of Some Classical Problems of Combinatorial Optimization
A method is presented for determining the asymptotic worst-case behavior of quantities like the length of the minimal spanning tree or the length of an optimal traveling salesman tour of points in the unit -cube. In each of these classical problems, the worst-case lengths are proved to have the exact asymptotic growth rate of , where is a positive constant depending on the problem and the dimension. These results complement known results on the growth rates for the analogous quantities under probabilistic assumptions on the points, but the results given here are free of any probabilistic hypotheses
Spanning Tree Problem with Neutrosophic Edge Weights
Neutrosophic set and neutrosophic logic theory are renowned theories to deal with complex, not clearly explained and uncertain real life problems, in which classical fuzzy sets/models may fail to model properly. This paper introduces an algorithm for finding minimum spanning tree (MST) of an undirected neutrosophic weighted connected graph (abbr. UNWCG) where the arc/edge lengths are represented by a single valued neutrosophic numbers. To build the MST of UNWCG, a new algorithm based on matrix approach has been introduced. The proposed algorithm is compared to other existing methods and finally a numerical example is provided
