Form Online To On-Cloud: The Sociological Criticism Of Online Targeted Advertising
As a kind of information diffusing channel, online targeted advertising, which can accurately deliver the commercial information to the audiences from specific hobbies and interests, actual demand and attitude of tendency by analyzing the trail of their internet using, shows an obvious effect. Meanwhile, with the development of the concept and technology of the CLOUD, more comprehensive and accurate data analysis of targeted advertising has been made into practice. This research makes a calm thinking on the online targeted advertising from the focus of criticism. It expounds the protection of individual privacy from the focus of public sphere constructing, the advantages and disadvantages of consumerism from the focus of cultural study and the construction of political, economic and cultural system in benign society from the focus of Political Economy of Communication. At last, under focus of cultural imperialism, the research expounds issues of online targeted advertising in the area of international economic development and intercultural communication. All these works are based on the expectation of the balance between the commercial logic and cultural logic
Tutorial: Big Data Analytics: Concepts, Technologies, and Applications
We have entered the big data era. Organizations are capturing, storing, and analyzing data that has high volume, velocity, and variety and comes from a variety of new sources, including social media, machines, log files, video, text, image, RFID, and GPS. These sources have strained the capabilities of traditional relational database management systems and spawned a host of new technologies, approaches, and platforms. The potential value of big data analytics is great and is clearly established by a growing number of studies. The keys to success with big data analytics include a clear business need, strong committed sponsorship, alignment between the business and IT strategies, a fact-based decision-making culture, a strong data infrastructure, the right analytical tools, and people skilled in the use of analytics. Because of the paradigm shift in the kinds of data being analyzed and how this data is used, big data can be considered to be a new, fourth generation of decision support data management. Though the business value from big data is great, especially for online companies like Google and Facebook, how it is being used is raising significant privacy concerns
Adaptive and Reactive Rich Internet Applications
In this thesis we present the client-side approach of Adaptive and Reactive Rich Internet Applications as the main result of our research into how to bring in time adaptivity to Rich Internet Applications. Our approach leverages previous work on adaptive hypermedia, event processing and other research disciplines. We present a holistic framework covering the design-time as well as the runtime aspects of Adaptive and Reactive Rich Internet Applications focusing especially on the run-time aspects
Myristoylated CIL-7 regulates ciliary extracellular vesicle biogenesis
The cilium both releases and binds to extracellular vesicles (EVs). EVs may be used by cells as a form of intercellular communication and mediate a broad range of physiological and pathological processes. The mammalian polycystins (PCs) localize to cilia, as well as to urinary EVs released from renal epithelial cells. PC ciliary trafficking defects may be an underlying cause of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (PKD), and ciliary–EV interactions have been proposed to play a central role in the biology of PKD. In Caenorhabditis elegans and mammals, PC1 and PC2 act in the same genetic pathway, act in a sensory capacity, localize to cilia, and are contained in secreted EVs, suggesting ancient conservation. However, the relationship between cilia and EVs and the mechanisms generating PC-containing EVs remain an enigma. In a forward genetic screen for regulators of C. elegans PKD-2 ciliary localization, we identified CIL-7, a myristoylated protein that regulates EV biogenesis. Loss of CIL-7 results in male mating behavioral defects, excessive accumulation of EVs in the lumen of the cephalic sensory organ, and failure to release PKD-2::GFP-containing EVs to the environment. Fatty acylation, such as myristoylation and palmitoylation, targets proteins to cilia and flagella. The CIL-7 myristoylation motif is essential for CIL-7 function and for targeting CIL-7 to EVs. C. elegans is a powerful model with which to study ciliary EV biogenesis in vivo and identify cis-targeting motifs such as myristoylation that are necessary for EV–cargo association and function
Automated Injection of Curated Knowledge Into Real-Time Clinical Systems: CDS Architecture for the 21st Century
abstract: Clinical Decision Support (CDS) is primarily associated with alerts, reminders, order entry, rule-based invocation, diagnostic aids, and on-demand information retrieval. While valuable, these foci have been in production use for decades, and do not provide a broader, interoperable means of plugging structured clinical knowledge into live electronic health record (EHR) ecosystems for purposes of orchestrating the user experiences of patients and clinicians. To date, the gap between knowledge representation and user-facing EHR integration has been considered an “implementation concern” requiring unscalable manual human efforts and governance coordination. Drafting a questionnaire engineered to meet the specifications of the HL7 CDS Knowledge Artifact specification, for example, carries no reasonable expectation that it may be imported and deployed into a live system without significant burdens. Dramatic reduction of the time and effort gap in the research and application cycle could be revolutionary. Doing so, however, requires both a floor-to-ceiling precoordination of functional boundaries in the knowledge management lifecycle, as well as formalization of the human processes by which this occurs.
This research introduces ARTAKA: Architecture for Real-Time Application of Knowledge Artifacts, as a concrete floor-to-ceiling technological blueprint for both provider heath IT (HIT) and vendor organizations to incrementally introduce value into existing systems dynamically. This is made possible by service-ization of curated knowledge artifacts, then injected into a highly scalable backend infrastructure by automated orchestration through public marketplaces. Supplementary examples of client app integration are also provided. Compilation of knowledge into platform-specific form has been left flexible, in so far as implementations comply with ARTAKA’s Context Event Service (CES) communication and Health Services Platform (HSP) Marketplace service packaging standards.
Towards the goal of interoperable human processes, ARTAKA’s treatment of knowledge artifacts as a specialized form of software allows knowledge engineers to operate as a type of software engineering practice. Thus, nearly a century of software development processes, tools, policies, and lessons offer immediate benefit: in some cases, with remarkable parity. Analyses of experimentation is provided with guidelines in how choice aspects of software development life cycles (SDLCs) apply to knowledge artifact development in an ARTAKA environment.
Portions of this culminating document have been further initiated with Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs) intended to ultimately produce normative standards, as have active relationships with other bodies.Dissertation/ThesisDoctoral Dissertation Biomedical Informatics 201
Take 2 steps and call me in the morning: Prescribing physical activity through primary care
Objectives: Physical activity guidelines for older adults target high-intensity activities (i.e. increasing exercise), with less attention on low-intensity activities (i.e. reducing/interrupting sedentary behaviours) to improve health. Mobile health (mHealth) holds promise for engaging patients in self-management of chronic diseases. The purpose of this research was to prescribe physical activity of various intensities (i.e. sedentary through exercise) in primary care paired with mHealth for self-management.
Methods: 60 older adults (55-75yr) were randomly assigned to four groups: one control, and three receiving mHealth kits plus prescription for a specific intensity of physical activity (exercise, sedentary or both). Clinical measures (anthropometrics, blood pressure, aerobic fitness, glucose, lipid profile) were conducted in a primary care office. During the 12-week intervention, participants remotely submitted measures for physical activity, blood pressure, body weight, and blood glucose. Six-months post-intervention, aerobic fitness was measured and interviews were conducted.
Results: Clinical and remotely submitted measures improved (p
Conclusions: To our knowledge, this is the first report of sedentary behaviour prescription in primary care. Findings support the ongoing practice of measuring lifestyle-related risk factors (e.g. body weight status, blood pressure, cardiorespiratory fitness) in the primary care setting for chronic disease management and prevention. Novel results demonstrate clinical benefits of prescribing changes to sedentary behaviours among older men and women. Additionally, results support the physiological and behavioural benefits of pairing physical activity prescription with mHealth for self-monitoring among at-risk older adults
When Is an Enterprise Service Bus (Esb) the Right Choice for an Integrated Technology Solution?
The Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) is an important systems integration technology often closely associated with Service Oriented Architecture (SOA). Some maintain that an ESB should not be used apart from SOA. Others see the ESB simply as the next generation of middleware, incorporating the best of its predecessors, Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) and Message Oriented Middleware (MOM), and a candidate for any integration requirement. Is the ESB a one-size-fits-all solution to be trusted for any integration requirement, or must its use be carefully considered with proper due diligence based on application complexity and/or the presence or absence of a defined SOA? This thesis probes these questions in an analysis of a world-wide survey of 230 industry SOA and middleware professionals conducted via the LinkedIn Professional Network during a six week period in November and December of 2010. In addition, the thesis applies a review of the survey results and current SOA and ESB literature to an architectural decision being made within the Systems Engineering and Application Development (SEAD) Practicum in the Master of Science program in Computer Information Systems at Regis University in Denver, which provides support for the University\u27s Academic Research Network (ARN). An ESB has been proposed as a new architectural component for the ARN infrastructure and this paper reviews the merit of this proposal. This thesis employs an interpretivist epistemology, understanding that there may be more than one acceptable answer to the question, When is an Enterprise Service Bus an appropriate component of an integrated technology solution
