    Mechatronic design and construction of an intelligent mobile robot for educational purposes : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Technology in Engineering and Automation at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand

    The main aim of this project was to produce a working intelligent mechatronically designed mobile robot, which could be used for educational purposes. A secondary aim was to make the robot as a test-bed to investigate new systems (sensors, control etc.) if possible. The mechatronic design of the robot was split in to three sections: the chassis, the sensors and the control. The design and construction of the chassis unit was relatively simple and very few problems were encountered. The drive system chosen for the robot was a four-wheeled Mecanum drive. The major advantage of this system is that it allows multiple degrees of freedom while keeping the control and the number of drive motors to a minimum. The design and construction of the sensors was the main research section. The sensor design evolved around the use of ultrasonic sensors. While a phased array type arrangement was tried with the intention of improving the angular accuracy of the sensors, the use of frequency modulation was used in the end and it proved to be excellent except that the problem of angular accuracy was still not solved. The entire mechatronic system was completed except for the micro controller programming. It operated well when it was given the correct inputs and performed all of the functions it was designed for. It is strongly recommended that further work be done on the use of a computer motherboard instead of the current micro controller as this would allow for easier programming, more complex programs and easy implementation of map building

In other words, money is not used to carry out these tasks because the people in these areas do not have the expendable funds required. In order to combat this problem, micro financing has become increasingly more apparent in these areas of distress. Microfinance is an economic development strategy that allows for those in need to borrow actual money in order to start a business, go to school, or even gain access to everyday living requirements. Microfinance has made tremendous strides over the years, but still faces several obstacles including regulation, loan strategies, and loan consumption. This study will attempt to analyze the microfinance industry in India by challenging certain aspects of its use, as well as offer suggestions that could have beneficial effects upon the industry

    [Excerpt] IT skills are more necessary than ever for competitive strategic initiatives. With the rise of shadow IT (unauthorized IT within organizations) and the ever-increasing skills gap in the IT labor market, companies need to invest in training and developing their IT technicians’ skills, no matter where they sit. With IT workers being a large part of the contingent workforce, they are susceptible to becoming underdeveloped and often lack the skills required to succeed in their positions. Typically, organizations have been focused on hard skills, but soft skills have become a requirement for IT departments. In typical working arrangements, soft IT skills are learned through on the job experience. Experiences such as relevant training and mentoring mechanisms offer opportunities for IT professionals to develop and refine their soft and hard skills. However, in highly outsourced environments these skills are less likely to be developed. Furthermore, with the development of new and exciting fields such as cloud, AI, and blockchain, IT technicians must develop new, rare, and difficult skills. According to Gartner, 20% of companies will need to allocate 10% of their IT staff on AI-related projects by 2020. With very little available talent in this space, this need will be difficult to fill

    The Role of ICT in Women's Empowerment in Rural\ud Bangladesh

    Rural women in Bangladesh have limited access to resources and public\ud spheres due to socio-cultural restrictions. Women suffer from severe\ud discrimination, and it is thought this is heightened due to a lack of access to\ud information. Information communication and technology (ICT) is a potential tool\ud that can reach rural women and enrich their knowledge. This paper discusses\ud women‟s empowerment in terms of perceptual change in rural villages in\ud Bangladesh after ICT intervention has been introduced by Non-Government\ud Organizations (NGOs). Since empowerment is a complex phenomenon to measure\ud because of its multidimensional aspects and its relationship with time as a process,\ud the methodology used in this research was an integration of qualitative and\ud quantitative methods. Using a structured questionnaire, data was collected from\ud women in two different villages where ICT projects have been introduced. The\ud change in women‟s perception after using ICT was compared with changes in\ud women who did not use ICT. The results indicate that ICT intervention changed\ud women‟s perception in a positive direction in one village but it did not change in\ud the other village
