Nonparametric Bayesian Modeling for Automated Database Schema Matching
The problem of merging databases arises in many government and commercial
applications. Schema matching, a common first step, identifies equivalent
fields between databases. We introduce a schema matching framework that builds
nonparametric Bayesian models for each field and compares them by computing the
probability that a single model could have generated both fields. Our
experiments show that our method is more accurate and faster than the existing
instance-based matching algorithms in part because of the use of nonparametric

Towards a service-oriented e-infrastructure for multidisciplinary environmental research
Research e-infrastructures are considered to have generic and thematic parts. The generic part provids high-speed networks, grid (large-scale distributed computing) and database systems (digital repositories and data transfer systems) applicable to all research commnities irrespective of discipline. Thematic parts are specific deployments of e-infrastructures to support diverse virtual research communities. The needs of a virtual community of multidisciplinary envronmental researchers are yet to be investigated. We envisage and argue for an e-infrastructure that will enable environmental researchers to develop environmental models and software entirely out of existing components through loose coupling of diverse digital resources based on the service-oriented achitecture. We discuss four specific aspects for consideration for a future e-infrastructure: 1) provision of digital resources (data, models & tools) as web services, 2) dealing with stateless and non-transactional nature of web services using workflow management systems, 3) enabling web servce discovery, composition and orchestration through semantic registries, and 4) creating synergy with existing grid infrastructures

This book consists of papers which were prepared within the framework of the research project (No. T 048539) entitled Futures Studies in the Interactive Society (project leader: Éva Hideg) and funded by the Hungarian Scientific Research Fund (OTKA) between 2005 and 2009. Some discuss the theoretical and methodological questions of futures studies and foresight; others present new approaches to or
procedures of certain questions which are very important and topical from the perspective of forecast and foresight practice. Each study was conducted in pursuit of improvement in futures fields
The uses of qualitative data in multimethodology:Developing causal loop diagrams during the coding process
In this research note we describe a method for exploring the creation of causal loop diagrams (CLDs) from the coding trees developed through a grounded theory approach and using computer aided qualitative data analysis software (CAQDAS). The theoretical background to the approach is multimethodology, in line with Minger’s description of paradigm crossing and is appropriately situated within the Appreciate and Analyse phases of PSM intervention. The practical use of this method has been explored and three case studies are presented from the domains of organisational change and entrepreneurial studies. The value of this method is twofold; (i) it has the potential to improve dynamic sensibility in the process of qualitative data analysis, and (ii) it can provide a more rigorous approach to developing CLDs in the formation stage of system dynamics modelling. We propose that the further development of this method requires its implementation within CAQDAS packages so that CLD creation, as a precursor to full system dynamics modelling, is contemporaneous with coding and consistent with a bridging strategy of paradigm crossing
Interoperability in the OpenDreamKit Project: The Math-in-the-Middle Approach
OpenDreamKit --- "Open Digital Research Environment Toolkit for the
Advancement of Mathematics" --- is an H2020 EU Research Infrastructure project
that aims at supporting, over the period 2015--2019, the ecosystem of
open-source mathematical software systems. From that, OpenDreamKit will deliver
a flexible toolkit enabling research groups to set up Virtual Research
Environments, customised to meet the varied needs of research projects in pure
mathematics and applications.
An important step in the OpenDreamKit endeavor is to foster the
interoperability between a variety of systems, ranging from computer algebra
systems over mathematical databases to front-ends. This is the mission of the
integration work package (WP6). We report on experiments and future plans with
the \emph{Math-in-the-Middle} approach. This information architecture consists
in a central mathematical ontology that documents the domain and fixes a joint
vocabulary, combined with specifications of the functionalities of the various
systems. Interaction between systems can then be enriched by pivoting off this

The suggested framework will help to define and improve business policies and work procedures for the assets operation and maintenance along their life cycle. The following sections present some achievements on this focus, proposing finally possible future lines for a research agenda within this field of assets management
