The Object Management Group Ontology Definition Metamodel
Report of a submission being made to a major international software engineering standards group, the Object Management Group which ties together OMG standards with World-Wide Web Consortium and International Standards Organization standards. Major industry bodies including IBM are collaborating, and the submission has the support of 24 companies. OMG, W3C and ISO standards strongly influence the industry, especially in combination. Colomb was a major contributor, responsible for 30% of the submission, and the primary author of the paper
From phenotypes to trees of life : a metamodel-driven approach for the integration of taxonomy models
Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo (FAPESP)Several projects aim at gathering together data concerning life around the world, in order to systematize them and produce a big, unified tree of life. Rather than a static single picture of the living world, this kind of tree: (i) is a result of a dynamic interaction among several models produced by biologists for describing life and expressing how life changes and evolves as time goes by, (ii) is not unique, since there are different competing perspectives describing life (morphology, behavior, ecology, genetics etc.) and different methods of reconstructing evolutionary trees. Our work addresses these problems by proposing a 'superimposed metamodel' mechanism, which acts as a modeling skeleton, supporting a unified view and articulation of models/ontologies involved in tasks that start at collecting data from the field towards producing descriptions and evolutionary trees. It enables to externalize specific knowledge as ontologies and to trace the entire rationale from one extreme of the process to the other one. This paper shows practical experiments in which we explore such characteristics as: guiding the expression of evolutionary hypotheses from observational data, going backwards on the provenance path, or evaluating changes of the tree in front of new evidences collected in the field.Several projects aim at gathering together data concerning life around the world, in order to systematize them and produce a big, unified tree of life. Blockchain Enterprise Ontologies: TOVE and DEMO
Enterprise ontology for blockchain transactions includes datalogical, infological and essential levels. OntoClean analyzes ontologies based on formal, domain-independent properties (metaproperties), being the first attempt to formalize the notion of ontological analysis for computer systems. The notions are extracted from the philosophical ontology. In the semantic web, a property is a binary relationship, with a subtle distinction between ownership and class. Thus, a metaproperty is a property of a property or a class. The design of ontology can be done when there is a basic understanding of the blockchain analysis.

Towards Effective SysML Model Reuse
The Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is spreading very fast. Most modelling tool vendors support it and practitioners have adopted it for Systems Engineering. The number of SysML models is growing, increasing the need for and the potential benefit from platforms that allow a user to reuse the knowledge represented in the models. However, SysML model reuse remains challenging. Each tool has its own implementation of SysML, hindering reuse between tools. The search capabilities of most tools are also very limited and finding reusable models can be difficult. This paper presents our vision and initial work towards enabling an effective reuse of the knowledge contained in SysML models. The proposed solution is based on a universal information representation model called RSHP and on existing technology for indexing and retrieval. The solution has been used to index models of all SysML diagram types and preliminary validated with requirements diagrams. The results from the validation show that the solution has very high precision and recall. Structuring a Modern Web Service for Users and Search Engines
This thesis aims to study how search engines should be taken into account when developing an early stage web service. The thesis introduces practical methods for improving the presentation of a web service’s pages in search engine results and a general overview of the working principles of search engines is provided. The thesis also goes over the history of web search engines in general before covering the history of Google in a bit more detailed manner.
The practical aspect of this thesis is conducted as a case study, where search engine legibility related improvements are made to the Skole application. Skole is a very early stage web service, were higher educations students can share knowledge and discuss their studies. The case study aims to get information about how and what kind of improvements can be made, and how they make a difference in practice. The case study also seeks to find out how important it is to follow the guidelines of search engine providers, when doing development for this kind of very early stage web service.
The results of the case study will mainly be measured by documenting how the application’s pages show up in Google before and after changes have been made. Some aggregated data from analytics providers is also used to see how the made improvements have affected the usage of the application
Philosophy of Blockchain Technology - Ontologies
About the necessity and usefulness of developing a philosophy specific to the blockchain technology, emphasizing on the ontological aspects. After an Introduction that highlights the main philosophical directions for this emerging technology, in Blockchain Technology I explain the way the blockchain works, discussing ontological development directions of this technology in Designing and Modeling. The next section is dedicated to the main application of blockchain technology, Bitcoin, with the social implications of this cryptocurrency. There follows a section of Philosophy in which I identify the blockchain technology with the concept of heterotopia developed by Michel Foucault and I interpret it in the light of the notational technology developed by Nelson Goodman as a notational system. In the Ontology section, I present two developmental paths that I consider important: Narrative Ontology, based on the idea of order and structure of history transmitted through Paul Ricoeur's narrative history, and the Enterprise Ontology system based on concepts and models of an enterprise, specific to the semantic web, and which I consider to be the most well developed and which will probably become the formal ontological system, at least in terms of the economic and legal aspects of blockchain technology. In Conclusions I am talking about the future directions of developing the blockchain technology philosophy in general as an explanatory and robust theory from a phenomenologically consistent point of view, which allows testability and ontologies in particular, arguing for the need of a global adoption of an ontological system for develop cross-cutting solutions and to make this technology profitable.

Generalised analytic queueing network models. The need, creation, development and validation of mathematical and computational tools for the construction of analytic queueing network models capturing more critical system behaviour.
Modelling is an important technique in the comprehension and
management of complex systems. Queueing network models capture
most relevant information from computer system and network
behaviour. The construction and resolution of these models is
constrained by many factors. Approximations contain detail lost
for exact solution and/or provide results at lower cost than
simulation.
Information at the resource and interactive command level is
gathered with monitors under ULTRIX'. Validation studies indicate
central processor service times are highly variable on the
system. More pessimistic predictions assuming this variability
are in part verified by observation.
The utility of the Generalised Exponential (GE) as a
distribution parameterised by mean and variance is explored.
Small networks of GE service centres can be solved exactly using
methods proposed for Generalised Stochastic Petri Nets. For two
centre. systems of GE type a new technique simplifying the balance equations is developed. A very efficient "building bglloocbka"l.
is presented for exactly solving two centre systems with service
or transfer blocking, Bernoulli feedback and load dependent rate,
multiple GE servers. In the tandem finite buffer algorithm the
building block illustrates problems encountered modelling high
variability in blocking networks. ':

A parametric validation study is made of approximations for
single class closed networks of First-Come-First-Served (FCFS)
centres with general service times. The multiserver extension
using the building block is validated. Finally the Maximum
Entropy approximation is extended to FCFS centres with multiple
chains and implemented with computationally efficient
