Measuring and testing spatial mass concentration with micro-geographic data

    Get PDF
We address the question of measuring and testing industrial spatial concentration based on micro-geographic data with distance based methods. We discuss the basic requirements for such measures and we propose four additional requirements. We also discuss the null assumptions classically used for testing aggregation of a particular sector and propose an alternative point of view. Our general index measure involves a cumulative and a non-cumulative version. This allows us to propose an alternative version of the Duranton Overman index with a proper baseline as well as a cumulative version of this same index. We illustrate the approach with some simulated data

This is an Author's Accepted Manuscript of an article published in Assistive Technology, 21(1), 1 - 12, 2009, copyright Taylor & Francis, available online at: http://www.tandfonline.com/10.1080/10400430902945678.A test protocol is defined for the purpose of measuring rectus femoris mechanomyographic (MMG) signals. The protocol is specified in terms of the following: measurement equipment, signal processing requirements, human postural requirements, test rig, sensor placement, sensor dermal fixation, and test procedure. Preliminary tests of the statistical nature of rectus femoris MMG signals were performed, and Gaussianity was evaluated by means of a two-sided Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. For all 100 MMG data sets obtained from the testing of two volunteers, the null hypothesis of Gaussianity was rejected at the 1%, 5%, and 10% significance levels. Most skewness values were found to be greater than 0.0, while all kurtosis values were found to be greater than 3.0. A statistical convergence analysis also performed on the same 100 MMG data sets suggested that 25 MMG acquisitions should prove sufficient to statistically characterize rectus femoris MMG. This conclusion is supported by the qualitative characteristics of the mean rectus femoris MMG power spectral densities obtained using 25 averages

Design and Testing of an Autonomous Ground Robot for Agricultural Applications

This senior project discusses the design and testing of an autonomous ground robot for agricultural applications such as strawberries. The vehicle will feature a robotic arm that will be programmed to perform various tasks, such as collecting soil and leaf samples of the crop or measuring soil moisture and salinity. Various components were chosen to be implemented on the vehicle due its power requirements and operating environment. Finite Element Analysis testing was done on the frame of the vehicle to ensure the adequacy of the design

Features of software for measuring instruments are considered. A comparative analysis of the general requirements in the documents and guidelines of the international and regional organizations of legislative metrology OIML and WELMEC concerning the testing of software for measuring instruments was carried out. The main factors that are monitored during quality testing of software for measuring instruments were identified by constructing Ishikawa cause-effect diagrams based on the requirements of the OIML document and the WELMEC guide. The possibility of joint use of the requirements of the OIML document and the WELMEC guide for testing the MI SW was analyzed. The general Ishikawa cause-effect diagram was developed, its main factors can be used for the development of special checklists for testing the MI SW taking into account different risk classes. The algorithms for testing the SW for MI in accordance with the requirements of documents of international and regional organizations of legislative metrology OIML and WELMEC were defined. A universal MI SW testing algorithm was proposed. It was proposed to apply approaches based on the requirements of documents and guidelines of international and regional metrology organizations for the preparation of special universal checklists for testing the software of virtually all categories of measuring equipment at the national level. This will confirm the authenticity and quality of the MI SW appraisals. The Testing of Structural Element Movements and Deformations, Its Geodetic Measuring Instruments and Measuring Equipment

Structural element movements and deformations have a significant influence on the quality of the building work. Their damaging effects can be prevented if the values of the development process of the movements and deformations are known. The test measurements carried out for the determinations took place under different building industry circumstances, so the test results are influenced by numerous factors. In the interest of getting to know these influencing factors the decisive elements of the test measurements need to be studied. From the decisive elements this study deals with the quality management issues of the geodetic measuring instruments and measuring equipment of movement and deformation testing measurements. The topicality of the analysis of this group of problems is justified by the demand for the technical development of quality and measuring also asserted in Hungary in the scope of the European Union`s (EU) European Quality Program (EQP), and by the necessity of the creation of a uniform system of technical requirements

In the paper the author gives a thorough analysis of the effective tools for the control organization in terms of the recent researches in the English for specific purposes testing methodology. The writer proposes the effective technology of the reading competency measurement covering the methods and techniques of the test administration including the criteria and quality characteristics definition. The research gives the sound articulation of the test quality characteristics alongside with the outlined test task design requirements. The examples of the original communicative professional test tasks give an overall picture of the testing domain to be developed. The objectives outlined give the reader an understanding of the test structure evaluation and processing the output data. The research gives a possibility to obtain a practically ideal tool for measuring the study achievements in reading competency acquisition of the technical university students. Moreover, the research highlights the learning outcomes to be envisaged beforehand as the target skills the students-future engineers are to acquire. The paper investigates the impact of the test characteristics and qualities on the test task construction in terms of the learning and testing purposes interaction. The research focuses on the test task development requirements as a dominant creative force in a testing development, organization and administration. Being sufficiently useful, criteria bring a sound functionality in the test task and test items construction. The structure of the communicative real life situations in foreign language reading where the future technical specialists are to apply their certain reading skills for their academic purposes is elaborated and introduced in the paper

Assessment of real-time software specifications quality using COSMIC-FFP

The success of a system development project largely depends on the non ambiguity of its system-level requirements specification document where the requirements are described at the \u27system level\u27 and not at the software and hardware level, and which document serves as an input to the design, implementation and testing phases. The way the system requirements specification document is written is sometimes ambiguous from a software viewpoint. This paper approaches the problem faced by the codesign, namely, the ill-defined functionality allocation between the hardware and the software for real time systems and presents an initial solution to it. It discusses what are the system requirements to be assigned to the hardware and what is really to be done by the software? Different decisions can lead then to various alternatives of allocation of functions between hardware and software: this will affect what software will be built and, correspondingly, the final functional size of software while measuring it using COS-MIC-FFP measurement method. This paper presents an initial solution towards understanding the applicability of the COSMIC-FFP functional size measurement method in assessing the hardware-software requirements allocation, and illustrates the approach on a Steam Boiler Controller case study. © 2008 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg
