Frequency-modulated continuous-wave LiDAR compressive depth-mapping
We present an inexpensive architecture for converting a frequency-modulated
continuous-wave LiDAR system into a compressive-sensing based depth-mapping
camera. Instead of raster scanning to obtain depth-maps, compressive sensing is
used to significantly reduce the number of measurements. Ideally, our approach
requires two difference detectors. % but can operate with only one at the cost
of doubling the number of measurments. Due to the large flux entering the
detectors, the signal amplification from heterodyne detection, and the effects
of background subtraction from compressive sensing, the system can obtain
higher signal-to-noise ratios over detector-array based schemes while scanning
a scene faster than is possible through raster-scanning. %Moreover, we show how
a single total-variation minimization and two fast least-squares minimizations,
instead of a single complex nonlinear minimization, can efficiently recover
high-resolution depth-maps with minimal computational overhead. Moreover, by
efficiently storing only data points from measurements of an
pixel scene, we can easily extract depths by solving only two linear equations
with efficient convex-optimization methods
Normalized ghost imaging
We present an experimental comparison between different iterative ghost imaging algorithms. Our experimental setup utilizes a spatial light modulator for generating known random light fields to illuminate a partially-transmissive object. We adapt the weighting factor used in the traditional ghost imaging algorithm to account for changes in the efficiency of the generated light field. We show that our normalized weighting algorithm can match the performance of differential ghost imaging
Compressive Imaging Using RIP-Compliant CMOS Imager Architecture and Landweber Reconstruction
In this paper, we present a new image sensor architecture for fast and accurate compressive sensing (CS) of natural images. Measurement matrices usually employed in CS CMOS image sensors are recursive pseudo-random binary matrices. We have proved that the restricted isometry property of these matrices is limited by a low sparsity constant. The quality of these matrices is also affected by the non-idealities of pseudo-random number generators (PRNG). To overcome these limitations, we propose a hardware-friendly pseudo-random ternary measurement matrix generated on-chip by means of class III elementary cellular automata (ECA). These ECA present a chaotic behavior that emulates random CS measurement matrices better than other PRNG. We have combined this new architecture with a block-based CS smoothed-projected Landweber reconstruction algorithm. By means of single value decomposition, we have adapted this algorithm to perform fast and precise reconstruction while operating with binary and ternary matrices.
