Performance of Spatial Modulation using Measured Real-World Channels
In this paper, for the first time real-world channel measurements are used to
analyse the performance of spatial modulation (SM), where a full analysis of
the average bit error rate performance (ABER) of SM using measured urban
correlated and uncorrelated Rayleigh fading channels is provided. The channel
measurements are taken from an outdoor urban multiple input multiple output
(MIMO) measurement campaign. Moreover, ABER performance results using simulated
Rayleigh fading channels are provided and compared with a derived analytical
bound for the ABER of SM, and the ABER results for SM using the measured urban
channels. The ABER results using the measured urban channels validate the
derived analytical bound and the ABER results using the simulated channels.
Finally, the ABER of SM is compared with the performance of spatial
multiplexing (SMX) using the measured urban channels for small and large scale
MIMO. It is shown that SM offers nearly the same or a slightly better
performance than SMX for small scale MIMO. However, SM offers large reduction
in ABER for large scale MIMO.Comment: IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference Fall 2013 (VTC-Fall 2013),

Receiver Multiuser Diversity Aided Multi-Stage MMSE Multiuser Detection for DS-CDMA and SDMA Systems Employing I-Q Modulation
The so-called receiver multiuser diversity aided multistage minimum mean-square error multiuser detector (RMD/MS-MMSE MUD), which was proposed previously by the author, is investigated in the context of the direct-sequence code-division multiple-access (DS- CDMA) and space-division multiple-access (SDMA) systems that employ in- and quadrature-phase (I-Q) modulation schemes. A detection scheme is studied, which is operated in real domain in the principles of successive interference cancellation (SIC). The concept of noise recognition factor (NRF) is proposed for explaining the efficiency of SIC-type detectors and also for motivating to design other high-efficiency detectors. The achievable bit error rate (BER) performance of the RMD/MS-MMSE MUD is investigated for DS-CDMA and SDMA systems of either full-load or overload, when communicating over Rayleigh fading channels for the SDMA and over either additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) or Rayleigh fading channels for the DS-CDMA. The studies and performance results show that the RMD/MS-MMSE MUD is a highly promising MUD. It has low implementation complexity and good error performance. Furthermore, it is a high-flexibility detector suitable for various communication systems operated in different communication environments
Level Crossing Rate of Macrodiversity System in the Presence of Multipath Fading and Shadowing
Macrodiversity system including macrodiversity SC receiver and two microdiversity SC receivers is considered in this paper. Received signal experiences, simultaneously, both, long term fading and short term fading. Microdiversity SC receivers reduces Rayleigh fading effects on system performance and macrodiversity SC receiver mitigate Gamma shadowing effects on system performance. Closed form expressions for level crossing rate of microdiversity SC receivers output signals envelopes are calculated. This expression is used for evaluation of level crossing rate of macrodiversity SC receiver output signal envelope. Numerical expressions are illustrated to show the influence of Gamma shadowing severity on level crossing rate
Bayesian compressive sensing framework for spectrum reconstruction in Rayleigh fading channels
Compressive sensing (CS) is a novel digital signal processing technique that has found great interest in
many applications including communication theory and wireless communications. In wireless communications, CS
is particularly suitable for its application in the area of spectrum sensing for cognitive radios, where the complete
spectrum under observation, with many spectral holes, can be modeled as a sparse wide-band signal in the frequency
domain. Considering the initial works performed to exploit the benefits of Bayesian CS in spectrum sensing, the fading
characteristic of wireless communications has not been considered yet to a great extent, although it is an inherent feature
for all sorts of wireless communications and it must be considered for the design of any practically viable wireless system.
In this paper, we extend the Bayesian CS framework for the recovery of a sparse signal, whose nonzero coefficients follow
a Rayleigh distribution. It is then demonstrated via simulations that mean square error significantly improves when
appropriate prior distribution is used for the faded signal coefficients and thus, in turns, the spectrum reconstruction
improves. Different parameters of the system model, e.g., sparsity level and number of measurements, are then varied
to show the consistency of the results for different cases
Performance analysis of energy detection over hyper-Rayleigh fading channels
This study investigates the performance of energy detection (ED)-based spectrum sensing over two-wave with diffused power (TWDP) fading channels, which have been found to provide accurate characterisation for a variety of fading conditions. A closed-form expression for the average detection probability of ED-based spectrum sensing over TWDP fading channels is derived. This expression is then used to describe the behaviour of ED-based spectrum sensing for a variety of channels that include Rayleigh, Rician and hyper-Rayleigh fading models. Such fading scenarios present a reliable behavioural model of machine-to-machine wireless nodes operating in confined structures such as in-vehicular environments
