Robust Motion Segmentation from Pairwise Matches
In this paper we address a classification problem that has not been
considered before, namely motion segmentation given pairwise matches only. Our
contribution to this unexplored task is a novel formulation of motion
segmentation as a two-step process. First, motion segmentation is performed on
image pairs independently. Secondly, we combine independent pairwise
segmentation results in a robust way into the final globally consistent
segmentation. Our approach is inspired by the success of averaging methods. We
demonstrate in simulated as well as in real experiments that our method is very
effective in reducing the errors in the pairwise motion segmentation and can
cope with large number of mismatches
Graph classes and forbidden patterns on three vertices
This paper deals with graph classes characterization and recognition. A
popular way to characterize a graph class is to list a minimal set of forbidden
induced subgraphs. Unfortunately this strategy usually does not lead to an
efficient recognition algorithm. On the other hand, many graph classes can be
efficiently recognized by techniques based on some interesting orderings of the
nodes, such as the ones given by traversals.
We study specifically graph classes that have an ordering avoiding some
ordered structures. More precisely, we consider what we call patterns on three
nodes, and the recognition complexity of the associated classes. In this
domain, there are two key previous works. Damashke started the study of the
classes defined by forbidden patterns, a set that contains interval, chordal
and bipartite graphs among others. On the algorithmic side, Hell, Mohar and
Rafiey proved that any class defined by a set of forbidden patterns can be
recognized in polynomial time. We improve on these two works, by characterizing
systematically all the classes defined sets of forbidden patterns (on three
nodes), and proving that among the 23 different classes (up to complementation)
that we find, 21 can actually be recognized in linear time.
Beyond this result, we consider that this type of characterization is very
useful, leads to a rich structure of classes, and generates a lot of open

Track Layouts of Graphs
A \emph{-track layout} of a graph consists of a (proper) vertex
-colouring of , a total order of each vertex colour class, and a
(non-proper) edge -colouring such that between each pair of colour classes
no two monochromatic edges cross. This structure has recently arisen in the
study of three-dimensional graph drawings. This paper presents the beginnings
of a theory of track layouts. First we determine the maximum number of edges in
a -track layout, and show how to colour the edges given fixed linear
orderings of the vertex colour classes. We then describe methods for the
manipulation of track layouts. For example, we show how to decrease the number
of edge colours in a track layout at the expense of increasing the number of
tracks, and vice versa. We then study the relationship between track layouts
and other models of graph layout, namely stack and queue layouts, and geometric
thickness. One of our principle results is that the queue-number and
track-number of a graph are tied, in the sense that one is bounded by a
function of the other. As corollaries we prove that acyclic chromatic number is
bounded by both queue-number and stack-number. Finally we consider track
layouts of planar graphs. While it is an open problem whether planar graphs
have bounded track-number, we prove bounds on the track-number of outerplanar
graphs, and give the best known lower bound on the track-number of planar
