Characteristic of partition-circuit matroid through approximation number
Rough set theory is a useful tool to deal with uncertain, granular and
incomplete knowledge in information systems. And it is based on equivalence
relations or partitions. Matroid theory is a structure that generalizes linear
independence in vector spaces, and has a variety of applications in many
fields. In this paper, we propose a new type of matroids, namely,
partition-circuit matroids, which are induced by partitions. Firstly, a
partition satisfies circuit axioms in matroid theory, then it can induce a
matroid which is called a partition-circuit matroid. A partition and an
equivalence relation on the same universe are one-to-one corresponding, then
some characteristics of partition-circuit matroids are studied through rough
sets. Secondly, similar to the upper approximation number which is proposed by
Wang and Zhu, we define the lower approximation number. Some characteristics of
partition-circuit matroids and the dual matroids of them are investigated
through the lower approximation number and the upper approximation number.Comment: 12 page
Matroidal approaches to rough sets via closure operators
AbstractThis paper studies rough sets from the operator-oriented view by matroidal approaches. We firstly investigate some kinds of closure operators and conclude that the Pawlak upper approximation operator is just a topological and matroidal closure operator. Then we characterize the Pawlak upper approximation operator in terms of the closure operator in Pawlak matroids, which are first defined in this paper, and are generalized to fundamental matroids when partitions are generalized to coverings. A new covering-based rough set model is then proposed based on fundamental matroids and properties of this model are studied. Lastly, we refer to the abstract approximation space, whose original definition is modified to get a one-to-one correspondence between closure systems (operators) and concrete models of abstract approximation spaces. We finally examine the relations of four kinds of abstract approximation spaces, which correspond exactly to the relations of closure systems
Entropy Region and Convolution
The entropy region is constructed from vectors of random variables by collecting Shannon entropies of all subvectors. Its shape is studied here by means of polymatroidal constructions, notably by convolution. The closure of the region is decomposed into the direct sum of tight and modular parts, reducing the study to the tight part. The relative interior of the reduction belongs to the entropy region. Behavior of the decomposition under self-adhesivity is clarified. Results are specialized and extended to the region constructed from four tuples of random variables. This and computer experiments help to visualize approximations of a symmetrized part of the entropy region. The four-atom conjecture on the minimal Ingleton score is refuted. © 2016 IEEE
