Small regular graphs of girth 7
In this paper, we construct new infinite families of regular graphs of girth 7 of smallest order known so far. Our constructions are based on combinatorial and geometric properties of (q + 1, 8)-cages, for q a prime power. We remove vertices from such cages and add matchings among the vertices of minimum degree to achieve regularity in the new graphs. We obtain (q + 1)-regular graphs of girth 7 and order 2q(3) + q(2) + 2q for each even prime power q >= 4, and of order 2q(3) + 2q(2) q + 1 for each odd prime power q >= 5.Postprint (published version
The matching polynomial of a regular graph
AbstractThe matching polynomial of a graph has coefficients that give the number of matchings in the graph. For a regular graph, we show it is possible to recover the order, degree, girth and number of minimal cycles from the matching polynomial. If a graph is characterized by its matching polynomial, then it is called matching unique. Here we establish the matching uniqueness of many specific regular graphs; each of these graphs is either a cage, or a graph whose components are isomorphic to Moore graphs. Our main tool in establishing the matching uniqueness of these graphs is the ability to count certain subgraphs of a regular graph
Matchings and Tilings in Hypergraphs
We consider two extremal problems in hypergraphs. First, given k ≥ 3 and k-partite k-uniform hypergraphs, as a generalization of graph (k = 2) matchings, we determine the partite minimum codegree threshold for matchings with at most one vertex left in each part, thereby answering a problem asked by R ̈odl and Rucin ́ski. We further improve the partite minimum codegree conditions to sum of all k partite codegrees, in which case the partite minimum codegree is not necessary large.
Second, as a generalization of (hyper)graph matchings, we determine the minimum vertex degree threshold asymptotically for perfect Ka,b,c-tlings in large 3-uniform hypergraphs, where Ka,b,c is any complete 3-partite 3-uniform hypergraphs with each part of size a, b and c. This partially answers a question of Mycroft, who proved an analogous result with respect to codegree for r-uniform hypergraphs for all r ≥ 3. Our proof uses Regularity Lemma, the absorbing method, fractional tiling, and a recent result on shadows for 3-graphs
Edge-Stable Equimatchable Graphs
A graph is \emph{equimatchable} if every maximal matching of has the
same cardinality. We are interested in equimatchable graphs such that the
removal of any edge from the graph preserves the equimatchability. We call an
equimatchable graph \emph{edge-stable} if , that is the
graph obtained by the removal of edge from , is also equimatchable for
any . After noticing that edge-stable equimatchable graphs are
either 2-connected factor-critical or bipartite, we characterize edge-stable
equimatchable graphs. This characterization yields an time recognition algorithm. Lastly, we introduce and shortly
discuss the related notions of edge-critical, vertex-stable and vertex-critical
equimatchable graphs. In particular, we emphasize the links between our work
and the well-studied notion of shedding vertices, and point out some open
questions
Ramsey-nice families of graphs
For a finite family of fixed graphs let be
the smallest integer for which every -coloring of the edges of the
complete graph yields a monochromatic copy of some . We
say that is -nice if for every graph with
and for every -coloring of there exists a
monochromatic copy of some . It is easy to see that if
contains no forest, then it is not -nice for any . It seems
plausible to conjecture that a (weak) converse holds, namely, for any finite
family of graphs that contains at least one forest, and for all
(or at least for infinitely many values of ),
is -nice. We prove several (modest) results in support of this
conjecture, showing, in particular, that it holds for each of the three
families consisting of two connected graphs with 3 edges each and observing
that it holds for any family containing a forest with at most 2
edges. We also study some related problems and disprove a conjecture by
Aharoni, Charbit and Howard regarding the size of matchings in regular
3-partite 3-uniform hypergraphs.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figure
