THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF TRANSLATION AND TRANSLATABILITY

Das Übersetzen wurde während seiner Geschichte von verschiedenen Facetten definiert. Trotz der Tatsache, dass die Übersetzungswissenschaft den übersetzerischen Prozess unter den verschiedensten Aspekten zu beschreiben versucht, bleibt immer noch die prinzipielle Frage nach dem Wesen des Übersetzens zu beantworten. Im Grunde genommen kann man sagen, dass in der übersetzerischen Wissenschaft gegenwärtig zwei Auffassungen vertreten sind, und zwar die linguististisch orientierte traditionelle Übersetzungstheorie und die moderne Translationstheorie, die handlungs- und kulturorientiert ist. Der Artikel analysiert positive und negative Seiten dieser Theorien und befasst sich ebenfalls mit dem Problem der Übersetzbarkeit evtl. Unübersetzbarkeit. Man macht ebenfalls darauf aufmerksam, dass eine detaillierte Ausarbeitung der speziellen Probleme des Fachübersetzens fehlt, das charakteristische Merkmale der Fachsprachen als Haupträger der Fachkommunikation widerspiegelt, die gegenwärtig immer mehr an Bedeutung gewinnt.The translation process, which has become an inseparable part of intercultural communication, can be viewed from many angles. The translation science has developed different concepts which, to some extent, describe or explain the translation process. The article analyzes the positive and weak aspects of these theories and also deals with the question of text translatability. Its aim is to show that, although theoretical concepts see the translation process from many angles, one common view can be found : the effort to find a basic rule for the translation process which allows the most adequate translation from the initial language into the target language without ignoring the aspect of communication. The current state of tranlation theory shows the need for more detailed analysis of the translation of technical professional texts and associated problems because of their increasing importance for international collaboration today

CTX - ein Verfahren zur computergestützten Texterschließung

Zusammen mit Edith Kroupa und Gerald Keil hat Zimmermann diesen Forschungsbericht für das BMFT, in dessen Mittelpunkt die Entwicklung des computergestützten Texterschließungssystems CTX steht, herausgegeben. Es wird zunächst ausführlich auf Methoden und Probleme des Information Retrieval eingegangen. Es folgt eine detaillierte Beschreibung der Grundlagen, Funktionen und Aufgaben von CTX. Der anwendungsbezogene Teil stellt eine Laboranwendung im Bereich "Datenschutz" mit Schwerpunkten auf den Themen Textsorte, Wörterbucharbeit und Deskriptorermittlung sowie einem Vergleich mit dem System PASSAT vor

Translationspolitik für Regional- oder Minderheitensprachen

A reasonable evolution model is indispensable for the comprehensibility and justification of translation policy decisions. On the one hand, this model should take into account the general objectives of protecting a regional or minority language and, on the other, the findings of translation studies and the best practices of the translation industry. On the basis of these assumptions, the author derives possible lines of development for the various areas of translation policy with the help of the maturity model derived from organisational management. He also develops a comprehensive evaluation procedure: the Translation Policy Metrics Model (TPM). The exemplary implementation of this model is based on the example of the minority region of South Tyrol using two surveys, several personal interviews with leading personalities in the field of translation as well as by examining the existing sources of legislation.
