Design and control of a multi-fingered robot hand provided with tactile feedback

    Get PDF
The design, construction, control and application of a three fingered robot hand with nine degrees of freedom and built-in multi-component force sensors is described. The adopted gripper kinematics are justified and optimized with respect to grasping and manipulation flexibility. The hand was constructed with miniature motor drive systems imbedded into the fingers. The control is hierarchically structured and is implemented on a simple PC-AT computer. The hand's dexterity and intelligence are demonstrated with some experiments

Segmented capacitance tomography electrodes: a design and experimental verifications

A segmented capacitance tomography system for real-time imaging of multiphase flows is developed and pre-sented in this work. The earlier research shows that the electrical tomography (ECT) system is applicable in flow visualization (image reconstruction). The acquired concentration profile ob-tained from capacitance measurements able to imaged liquid and gas mixture in pipelines meanwhile the system development is designed to attach on a vessel. The electrode plates which act as the sensor previously has been assembled and fixed on the pipeline, thus it causes obscurity for the production to have any new process installation in the future. Therefore, a segmented electrode sensor offers a new design and idea on ECT system which is portable to be assembled in different diameter sizes of pipeline, and it is flexible to apply in any number due to different size of pipeline without the need of redesigning the sensing module. The new ap-proach of this sensing module contains the integration intelligent electrode sensing circuit on every each of electrode sensors. A microcontroller unit and data acquisition (DAQ) system has been integrated on the electrode sensing circuit and USB technology was applied into the data acquisition system making the sensor able to work independently. Other than that the driven guard that usually placed between adjacent measuring electrodes and earth screen has been embedded on the segmented electrode sensor plates. This eliminates the cable noise and the electrode, so the signal conditioning board can be expanded according to pipe diameter

Nonlinear robust controller design for multi-robot systems with unknown payloads

    Get PDF
This work is concerned with the control problem of a multi-robot system handling a payload with unknown mass properties. Force constraints at the grasp points are considered. Robust control schemes are proposed that cope with the model uncertainty and achieve asymptotic path tracking. To deal with the force constraints, a strategy for optimally sharing the task is suggested. This strategy basically consists of two steps. The first detects the robots that need help and the second arranges that help. It is shown that the overall system is not only robust to uncertain payload parameters, but also satisfies the force constraints

Multifingered under-actuated hands in robotic assembly

    Get PDF
New production paradigm of mass customization imposes the development of flexible gripping systems with exceptional dexterity, capable of mimicking grasping behavior of human hands. In this context, the most demanding technical challenges are: motoric capabilities and related design aspects, overall weight and size, and tactile and other perceptual capabilities. Also, to make the gripper industry acceptable, it should be in affordable price range. Having all that in mind, concept of the multifingered under-actuated hand appears as good candidate to be an optimal, general purpose solution. This paper presents the general conceptual framework for development of multifingered hands which are based on under-actuation principle

Predictive Adaptive Control of Multiple Robots in Cooperative Motion

    Get PDF
In this paper we address the problem of controlling multiple robots manipulating a rigid object cooperatively when the robots and load parameters are uncertain. We propose a controller that takes into account the dynamics of both the load and the manipulators. The linearity of the dynamics of the robots and the load, with respect to the unknown parameters, is exploited during the derivation of the parameter adaptation scheme. In order to design a control and update laws that do not require the measurements of the of the joint accelerations or the load acceleration, the dynamics of both the robots and the load are filtered through a stable first order filter. Then two prediction error vectors are defined as the difference between the measured filtered dynamics and the predicted filtered dynamics of both the robots and the load. The least-squares estimation method is used to estimate the parameters of the multi-robot system from the prediction errors. We then develop a controller that is based on the cancellation of the nonlinearities. The proposed controller guarantees global asymptotic tracking of the robot and load trajectories and also guarantees the asymptotic tracking of the internal forces trajectories
