Estimating, planning and managing Agile Web development projects under a value-based perspective

    Get PDF
Context: The processes of estimating, planning and managing are crucial for software development projects, since the results must be related to several business strategies. The broad expansion of the Internet and the global and interconnected economy make Web development projects be often characterized by expressions like delivering as soon as possible, reducing time to market and adapting to undefined requirements. In this kind of environment, traditional methodologies based on predictive techniques sometimes do not offer very satisfactory results. The rise of Agile methodologies and practices has provided some useful tools that, combined with Web Engineering techniques, can help to establish a framework to estimate, manage and plan Web development projects. Objective: This paper presents a proposal for estimating, planning and managing Web projects, by combining some existing Agile techniques with Web Engineering principles, presenting them as an unified framework which uses the business value to guide the delivery of features. Method: The proposal is analyzed by means of a case study, including a real-life project, in order to obtain relevant conclusions. Results: The results achieved after using the framework in a development project are presented, including interesting results on project planning and estimation, as well as on team productivity throughout the project. Conclusion: It is concluded that the framework can be useful in order to better manage Web-based projects, through a continuous value-based estimation and management process.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2013-46928-C3-3-

Release and Team Utilization Planning Application

    Get PDF
This project involves the development of a web-based application to manage release planning and team utilization. The goal of the project is to improve mid to longer term planning for agile software development projects and managing the capacity of the teams working on them. While the tool and process can be used by any software development methodology that is using an approach involving several releases to complete the project, the primary focus of this project is based on the experiences and needs of an organization using an Agile/Iterative software development process. The system was developed using Oracle Application Express 4.2, Oracle’s RAD tool for developing Web applications with SQL and PL/SQL

A Network of Community Partners Representing Multiple Communities: Developing a Tool for Matching Community- Engaged Scholars with Community Partners

    Get PDF
The Community Partnership for Ethical Research (CPER) was a multi-faceted research project designed to test a model of community engagement using a network of community partners called Community Advocates for Research (CARs). The goals of the project included developing systems to sustain and expand the CARs network. This article presents one facet of this project—a method of effectively and efficiently managing data about the CARs. User-friendly surveys and a database were designed for the management of these data. The web-based survey allows data capture in the community. Moreover, the web-based database tools facilitate centralized data collection and management that will contribute to the sustainability of the network of CARs beyond the initial grant that provided the funding for its development. This article describes the surveys and database and their utility for other institutions desiring to establish similar networks of community partners

Web-Based Administration of Online Multiple-Choice Test

The purpose of this project is to develop a prototype of a web-based administration of online multiple-choice test system to be used in Perlis Teachers Training College, Perlis. The system was developed to facilitate in managing and administrating an online test. It is a client/server architecture which is based on intranet. Database Design Methodology and Rapid Prototyping technique were used to build the system. The system was trial-run in Perlis Teachers Training College by a group of students sitting the online test. Problems and limitations discovered were then discussed and recommendations made to overcome the limitations for the future development of the project

RESTful management system for Wireless Sensor Network devices

The thesis has been conceived at the SigNET laboratory of the University of Padova. The project has consisted on the design and the development of a software system for managing the devices that compose a Wireless Sensor Network. The created software is based on the REST architectural style, so it has been designed to provide the access to the network functionalities by offering web resources to the clients. The heart of the project is focused on the management of the elaborative nodes of the network. These devices have a direct control on the sensor nodes. The developed software runs on them as an internal daemon, with the aim of monitoring the state of the sensors and managing the requests of the users. The project has also included the creation of a Web Application with which integrate the functionalities provided by WebIoT, a multi-platform Web Application created by the SigNET research group. The aim of this part of the work was making the system transparent to the users. All the implementation choices have been made with a particular attention to ensure high levels of modularity, portability and scalabilit

Treballs Finals de Grau d'Enginyeria Informàtica, Facultat de Matemàtiques, Universitat de Barcelona, Any: 2018, Director: Josep Vañó Chic[en] This project is located in the field of web development backend: Implementation of a virtual store with Django technology. Specifically, it is based on the design and implementation of a web application that is responsible for managing user requests that users entrust to it. The purpose of the project is to relate to the most used web frameworks in the computer market in this case Django, which is a web framework that uses Python. So learn how to make web pages online and create web servers. Methods will be implemented to have greater control open to users. These methods will be primarily responsible for creating, managing and deleting users and products

Doorstop: Text-Based Requirements Management Using Version Control

    Get PDF
Effectively managing the requirements and traceability in a complex software project can be a challenging task. Many tools exist to support the initial creation and management of changes to text-based requirements. The most popular commercial solutions use a centralized server to host a database with a front-end desktop or web interface. Some downsides to this approach include user interface bloat, server costs, and an inherent disconnection from the project’s source files. To provide an alternative to traditional requirements management, Doorstop was created as a tool to allow requirements to be stored as text files in version control. This solution allows a project to utilize its existing development tools to manage versions of the requirements using a lightweight, developer-friendly interface

POPIM: Pragmatic online project information management for collaborative product development

    Get PDF
POPIM (Pragmatic Online Project Information Management) is a prototype web-based platform for managing collaborative product development projects within an extended enterprise environment. A suite of facilities are provided for geographically dispersed project team members to communicate, share, and collaborate on a project in a common workspace where they enjoy online access to the most up to date project information and maintain a high-level data consistency and accumulate experience and knowledgebase. In addition to standard project management functionality such as defining work structure breakdowns, determining work schedules, teaming up with specialists, and allocating resources, POPIM incorporates workflow management (including dependency management), and deliverable management (document management if documents are considered as one kind of deliverables). Individual members have their personalized accounts according to their skills and roles/responsibilities in a project. A project team and its members may maintain their own journals/records. More application-specific functions such as product design review and engineering change management can be implicitly performed through online document forms.published_or_final_versio

Over the past few years, the Internet has played a very important role be it at home, work or school. Internet applications such as online shopping and online voting has been widely accepted worldwide. This project focuses on the significance of online systems technology for managing stationeries in UTP, to enhance the systems from manual to online and to implement an integrated system. The development methodology of this research is based on the author's own methodology which involves phases such as Analysis, Design and Construction. The project is being developed using server side scripting, PFIP and MySQL database. Using the manual system, UTP has to face a few problems such as difficulties onmanaging staffdata, stationery request forms and stationeries as well. By implementing a new web based systems those problems can be minimized as well as saving costof purchasing papers
