Purpose: Change can be bewildering, alarming, exhausting and risky but at the same time efficacious, productive, beneficial, and salutary. In the current, ever evolving work dynamics, change is the only constant. So, managing change is very important when it comes to any organisation. It is an inevitable process for both individuals and organizations. The main purpose of this study is to understand and analyze the impact of organizational agility in change management process for a successful transition.   Theoretical Framework: To keep pace with the demands of ever-changing technology, competition, and other socio-economic factors, it has become very important for organizations to act with agility when a change occurs. Moreover because of the current competitive trends, the main shift can be seen towards the agile paradigm. In our current expeditious work environment, it has become difficult to adopt and function with an existing change model with many steps.   Design/Methodology/Approach: Secondary data analysis method is used, which involves a thorough exploratory search of existing data available at varied sources.  For the review and evaluation, content analysis was carried out for 115 manuscripts to exclude the irrelevant ones. But after applying inclusion and exclusion criteria 62 papers were selected and analysed, considering time frame, objectives, and related information.   Findings: Organizational agility helps in undertaking change in a faster way as it equips employees with required knowledge and skills to efficaciously navigate change, adapting them to thrive in rapid changing environment. Organizational change agility is the unification of organizational operations, attributes and employees using advanced technology.   Research, Practical and Social Implications: The study identifies the importance of agility in change management for a successful transition in any organizations. Though change management is a well-studied subject, the success rate of any change process remains low. Incorporating agility can help in overcoming many crucial problems faced by organizations due to its flexibility, transparency, speed, and proper training.   Originality / Value: This study is an inventive attempt to enhance the management practices in relation to change management of organizations, by incorporating agility factor. The findings may help and encourage organizations to consider these agility components and variables while adopting any transformation model for a successful change.

Toward Arctic transitions and sustainability: modeling risks and resilience across scales of governance

Thesis (Ph.D.) University of Alaska Fairbanks, 2017The Arctic region has been the subject of international attention in recent years. The magnitude of impacts from global climate change, land-use change, and speculations about economic development and accessible polar shipping lanes have intensified this focus. As a result, the potential to manage complex ecological, social and political relationships in the context of changes, risks and opportunities is the focus of a large and growing body of research. This dissertation contributes to the expanding scholarship on managing Arctic social-ecological systems for resilience by answering the question: What conditions improve cross-scale learning and resilience in nested social-ecological systems experiencing rapid changes? Using the framework of social-ecological systems and the drivers of change that can transform fundamental relationships within, three studies profile the spatial and temporal dimensions of learning and risk perceptions that impact nested social systems. The first study presents a spatial and temporal analysis of scale- and level-specific processes that impact learning from risks. It draws on four cases to underscore the need for a plurality of risk assumptions in learning for resilience, and sums up essential resources needed to support key decision points for increasing resilience. Two additional studies present research conducted with northern Alaska communities and resource managers. In these studies, I analyzed the extent to which perceptions of risks scale horizontally (between same-level jurisdictions), and vertically (between levels in a dominant jurisdictional structure). These examples illustrate the need for innovative institutions to enhance cross-scale learning, and to balance global drivers of change with local socioeconomic, cultural, and ecological interests. Based on findings of the dissertation research I propose recommendations to optimize the tools and processes of complex decision making under uncertainty

China’s Dilemma—Economic Growth, the Environment and Climate Change examines the challenges China will have to confront in order to maintain rapid growth while coping with the global financial turbulence, some rising socially destabilising tensions such as income inequality, an over-exploited environment and the long-term pressures of global warming. China’s Dilemma discusses key questions that will have an impact on China’s growth path and offers some in-depth analyses as to how China could confront these challenges. The authors address the effect of the global credit crunch and financial shocks on China’s economic growth; China’s contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and emissions reduction schemes; the environmental consequences of foreign direct investment in China; the relationship between air pollution and mortality; the effect of climate change on agricultural output; the coal industry’s compliance with tougher regulations; and the constraints water shortages may impose on China’s economy. It also emphasises the importance of managing the rising demand for energy to moderate oil price increases and placating domestic and international concerns about global warming. In the thirty years since China started on the path of reform, it has emerged as one of the largest and most dynamic economies in the world. This carries with it the responsibility to balance the requirements of key industries that are driving its development with the need to ensure that its growth is both equitable and sustainable. China’s Dilemma highlights key lessons learned from the past thirty years of reform in order to pave the way for balanced and sustained growth in the future

Currently it is the Era of the Industrial Revolution 4.0, where the industrial sector as well as companies and organizations in various fields are required to change. This change is when information and communication technology is used to reach the highest point in the use of digital technology. The Industrial Era 4.0 has had a rapid impact on all activities carried out in the industrial sector and company organizational organizations. The higher the information and communication technology used, the faster the information delivery process will be. A fast information process can help the smooth running of administrative activities in a company or organization, especially administrative activities related to correspondence activities. In managing incoming and outgoing letters at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Mohammad Husni Thamrin University, currently there are shortcomings that are still stored and recorded in making correspondence. This can result in information being presented too late. It is that the need for a technology that will help of the smooth running of the administration in making correspondence by writing letters at the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) at Mohammad Husni Thamrin University. Making a letter application is done quickly and easily by using UML (Unfied Modeling Language) as a tool that helps analyze the flow of the correspondence system and makes it easier to build applications that are needed as well as in the development process. With the help of MySQL as a database, Bootstrap Framework and using the PHP programming language. Keywords: Design, Letter, UML, Codeigniter, Bootstra

Parents' experiences of flexible work arrangements in changing European workplaces

    Get PDF
Various leaves and other forms of flexible working arrangements have been implemented in workplaces to support employees with family commitments. Some are a response to public policy, others developed voluntarily. However, research examining the effectiveness of these policies in a search for “good practices” often neglects the impact of specific national and workplace contexts. Some researchers are calling for more attention to social systems, especially at the macro and meso levels, and the relationships between them, to extend understanding of work family processes and experiences. We argue that this is critical for evaluating work-family policies and practices. However it is important to recognize that social systems are not static. They are dynamic and changing, particularly in the context of globalization processes. Drawing on data from six case studies of private sector organizations undergoing rapid change and transformation, carried out in six European states, as part of a qualitative cross-national EU project (Transitions)1 , this paper explores the impact of multiple layers of context on parents’ experiences of flexible working arrangements for managing work and family boundaries. The study shows that although various aspects of macro layers of context are important and it is easier to make use of flexibility to combine work and parenting in some national and workplace contexts than others, changes taking place at the workplace level in response to global competition and efficiency drives can undermine both regulatory and voluntary initiatives to enhance flexibility for parents. This is occurring across national boundaries. Some implications for debates on “good practices” and for future work-family research are discussed

This thesis examines the impact of the democratic promises of Internet communication technologies, social, and participatory media on the practice of public archaeology. It is focused on work within archaeological organisations in the UK in commercial archaeology, higher education, local authority planning departments and community settings, as well the voluntary planning departments and community settings, as well the voluntary archaeology sector archaeology sector . This work has taken an innovative approach to the subject matter through its use of a Grounded Theory method for data collection and analysis, and the use of a combination of online surveys, case studies and email questionnaires in order to address the following issues: the provision of authoritative archaeological information online; barriers to participation; policy and organisational approaches to evaluating success and archiving; community formation and activism, and the impact of digital inequalities and literacies. This thesis is the first overarching study into the use of participatory media in archaeology. It is an important exploration of where and how the profession is creating and managing digital platforms, and the expanding opportunities for networking and sharing information within the discipline, against a backdrop of rapid advancement in the use of Internet technologies within society. This work has made significant contributions to debates on the practice and impact of public archaeology. It has shown that archaeologists do not yet fully understand the complexities of Internet use and issues of digital literacy, the impact of audience demographics or disposition towards participation in online projects. It has shown that whilst recognition of democratic participation is not, on the whole, undertaken through a process of actively acknowledging responses to archaeological information, there remains potential for participatory media to support and accommodate these ideals. This work documents a period of great change within the practice of archaeology in the UK, and concludes with the observation that it is vital that the discipline undertake research into online audiences for archaeological information if we are to create sustainable digital public archaeologies
