    Accurate and efficient profile matching in knowledge bases

    A profile describes a set of properties, e.g. a set of skills a person may have, a set of skills required for a particular job, or a set of abilities a football player may have with respect to a particular team strategy. Profile matching aims to determine how well a given profile fits to a requested profile and vice versa. The approach taken in this article is grounded in a matching theory that uses filters in lattices to represent profiles, and matching values in the interval [0,1]: the higher the matching value the better is the fit. Such lattices can be derived from knowledge bases to represent the knowledge about profiles. An interesting question is, how human expertise concerning the matching can be exploited to obtain most accurate matchings. It will be shown that if a set of filters together with matching values by some human expert is given, then under some mild plausibility assumptions a matching measure can be determined such that the computed matching values preserve the relevant rankings given by the expert. A second question concerns the efficient querying of databases of profile instances. For matching queries that result in a ranked list of profile instances matching a given one it will be shown how corresponding top-k queries can be evaluated on grounds of pre-computed matching values. In addition, it will be shown how the matching queries can be exploited for gap queries that determine how profile instances need to be extended in order to improve in the rankings

    Stable Marriage Problem Based Adaptation for Clone Detection and Service Selection

    Current software engineering topics such as clone detection and service selection need to improve the capability of detection process and selection process. The clone detection is the process of finding duplicated code through the system for several purposes such as removal of repeated portions as maintenance part of legacy system. Service selection is the process of finding the appropriate web service which meets the consumer’s request. Both problems can be converted into a matching problem. Matching process forms an essential part of software engineering activities. In this research, a well-known mathematical algorithm Stable Marriage Problem (SMP) and its variations are investigated to fulfil the purposes of matching processes in software engineering area. We aim to provide a competitive matching algorithm that can help to detect cloned software accurately and ensure high scalability, precision and recall. We also aim to apply matching algorithm on incoming request and service profile to deal with the web service as a clever independent object so that we can allow the services to accept or decline requests (equal opportunity) rather than the current state of service selection (search-based), in which service lacks of interacting as an independent candidate. In order to meet the above aims, the traditional SMP algorithm has been extended to achieve the cardinality of many-to-many. This adaptation is achieved by defining the selective strategy which is the main engine of the new adaptations. Two adaptations, Dual-Proposed and Dual-Multi-Allocation, have been proposed to both service selection and clone detection process. The proposed approach (SMP-based) shows very competitive results compare to existing software clone approaches, especially in identifying type 3 (copy with further modifications such update, add and delete statements) of cloned software. It performs the detection process with a relatively high precision and recall compare to the CloneDR tool and shows good scalability on a middle sized program. For service selection, the proposed approach has several advantages such as service protection and service quality. The services gain equal opportunity against the incoming requests. Therefore, the intelligent service interaction is achieved, and both stability and satisfaction of the candidates are ensured. This dissertation contributes to several contributions firstly, the new extended SMP algorithm by introducing selective strategy to accommodate many-to-many matching problems, to improve overall features. Secondly, a new SMP-based clone detection approach to detect cloned software accurately and ensures high precision and recall. Ultimately, a new SMPbased service selection approach allows equal opportunity between services and requests. This led to improve service protection and service quality. Case studies are carried out for experiments with the proposed approach, which show that the new adaptations can be applied effectively to clone detection and service selection processes with several features (e.g. accuracy). La mayor parte de esta información se encuentra accesible en texto, siendo el ser humano el principal usuario de la Web. Sin embargo, a pesar de todos los avances producidos en el área del procesamiento del lenguaje natural, los ordenadores tienen problemas para procesar esta información textual. En este cotexto, existen dominios de aplicación en los que se están publicando grandes cantidades de información disponible como datos estructurados como en el área de las Ciencias de la Vida. El análisis de estos datos es de vital importancia no sólo para el avance de la ciencia, sino para producir avances en el ámbito de la salud. Sin embargo, estos datos están localizados en diferentes repositorios y almacenados en diferentes formatos que hacen difícil su integración. En este contexto, el paradigma de los Datos Vinculados como una tecnología que incluye la aplicación de algunos estándares propuestos por la comunidad W3C tales como HTTP URIs, los estándares RDF y OWL. Haciendo uso de esta tecnología, se ha desarrollado esta tesis doctoral basada en cubrir los siguientes objetivos principales: 1) promover el uso de los datos vinculados por parte de la comunidad de usuarios del ámbito de las Ciencias de la Vida 2) facilitar el diseño de consultas SPARQL mediante el descubrimiento del modelo subyacente en los repositorios RDF 3) crear un entorno colaborativo que facilite el consumo de Datos Vinculados por usuarios finales, 4) desarrollar un algoritmo que, de forma automática, permita descubrir el modelo semántico en OWL de un repositorio RDF, 5) desarrollar una representación en OWL de ICD-10-CM llamada Dione que ofrezca una metodología automática para la clasificación de enfermedades de pacientes y su posterior validación haciendo uso de un razonador OWL

The Congress included 13 Workshops with 131 accepted papers, 4 Conferences, 2 invited tutorials, different meetings related with Computer Science Education (Professors, PhD students, Curricula) and an International School with 6 courses. CACIC 2015 was organized following the traditional Congress format, with 13 Workshops covering a diversity of dimensions of Computer Science Research. Each topic was supervised by a committee of 3-5 chairs of different Universities. The call for papers attracted a total of 202 submissions. An average of 2.5 review reports werecollected for each paper, for a grand total of 495 review reports that involved about 191 different reviewers.     This thesis contains essays on the service economy. The issues studied in the essays are multifaceted. The main themes of stability, governance, and effectiveness are recurrent in different contexts: relational activities, group cooperation, country-level management and a very specific case of health care provision. The methodological tools employed are varied, too. In the theoretical essays, contributions are made to the literature on network and endogenous coalition formation. The empirical essays employ linear and non-linear regression models and use aggregate as well as micro-level data.
