    Fuzzy uncertainty modelling for project planning; application to helicopter maintenance

    Maintenance is an activity of growing interest specially for critical systems. Particularly, aircraft maintenance costs are becoming an important issue in the aeronautical industry. Managing an aircraft maintenance center is a complex activity. One of the difficulties comes from the numerous uncertainties that affect the activity and disturb the plans at short and medium term. Based on a helicopter maintenance planning and scheduling problem, we study in this paper the integration of uncertainties into tactical and operational multiresource, multi-project planning (respectively Rough Cut Capacity Planning and Resource Constraint Project Scheduling Problem). Our main contributions are in modelling the periodic workload on tactical level considering uncertainties in macro-tasks work contents, and modelling the continuous workload on operational level considering uncertainties in tasks durations. We model uncertainties by a fuzzy/possibilistic approach instead of a stochastic approach since very limited data are available. We refer to the problems as the Fuzzy RoughCut Capacity Problem (FRCCP) and the Fuzzy Resource Constraint Project Scheduling Problem (RCPSP).We apply our models to helicopter maintenance activity within the frame of the Helimaintenance project, an industrial project approved by the French Aerospace Valley cluster which aims at building a center for civil helicopter maintenance

    PT. XYZ is one of the State Owned Enterprises engaged in the business sector and commodity sales tea plantation in Indonesia and is also the largest tea producer in Indonesia. The resulting tea products must be of high quality, meet customer satisfaction and processes are implemented according to the requirements or regulations. Therefore, PT. XYZ expected to be able to maintain its reputation and maintain a good brand image. One black tea processing factory is located in Ciater, Subang. Black tea production process in PT. XYZ is still not effective, especially in capacity utilization of production facilities. Capacity production facility on the company is still not balanced, especially in the milling process. Seen that much inventory or stock that has accumulated on multiple workstations resulting in bottlenecks. The bottleneck of inventory can occur for several main reasons, among others, the capacity of the machine, the machine processing time, work time, and labor. This research requires the calculation of capacity planning done by Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) method. From the calculation results using Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP) method with BOLA technique can be seen that there are some machines that can not fulfill the supply caused by the amount of available machine capacity is smaller than the requirement machine capacity. To be able to know whether the supply can be fulfilled by the available capacity, a simple system for capacity analysis using Macro Excel 2013 was made which has an input in the form of supply and number of machines. The output of the system are the calculation of available capacity, calculation of requirement capacity, status that indicating whether the available capacity meets the supply or not, and the amount of machine that can fulfill the supply when the condition of the supply is not fulfilled.     Rural Development, Environmental Sustainability, and Poverty Alleviation: A Critique of Current Paradigms

    Donors have developed new micro-level and local paradigms to address rural development, environmental sustainability, and poverty alleviation to bypass, ignore, and substitute for badly functioning and corrupt states. Yet, states still set the macro-economic, legal, and policy parameters or “rules of the game” within which other entities operate, and many non-state actors are only nominally independent. Hence, technical initiatives stemming from these paradigms, aimed at growth and equity are often theoretically misconceived and tend to fail when implemented. The paper critically discusses the new paradigms, including decentralization, civil society, microentrepreneurship, and capacity building, among others, mainly using African examples.economic development, formal and informal and insitutional arrangements, development planning and policy, economic development, regional urban and rural analyses, formal and informal sectors, institutional arrangements, institutional linkages to development.

    Carbon Emissions Pinch Analysis (CEPA) for emissions reduction in the New Zealand electricity sector

    Carbon Emissions Pinch Analysis (CEPA) is a recent extension of traditional thermal and mass pinch analysis to the area of emissions targeting and planning on a macro-scale (i.e. economy wide). This paper presents an extension to the current methodology that accounts for increased demand and a carbon pinch analysis of the New Zealand electricity industry while illustrating some of the issues with realising meaningful emissions reductions. The current large proportion of renewable generation (67% in 2007) complicates extensive reduction of carbon emissions from electricity generation. The largest growth in renewable generation is expected to come from geothermal generation followed by wind and hydro. A four fold increase in geothermal generation capacity is needed in addition to large amounts of new wind generation to reduce emissions to around 1990 levels and also meet projected demand. The expected expansion of geothermal generation in New Zealand raises issues of GHG emissions from the geothermal fields. The emissions factors between fields can vary by almost two orders of magnitude making predictions of total emissions highly site specific

    An extensible manufacturing resource model for process integration

    Driven by industrial needs and enabled by process technology and information technology, enterprise integration is rapidly shifting from information integration to process integration to improve overall performance of enterprises. Traditional resource models are established based on the needs of individual applications. They cannot effectively serve process integration which needs resources to be represented in a unified, comprehensive and flexible way to meet the needs of various applications for different business processes. This paper looks into this issue and presents a configurable and extensible resource model which can be rapidly reconfigured and extended to serve for different applications. To achieve generality, the presented resource model is established from macro level and micro level. A semantic representation method is developed to improve the flexibility and extensibility of the model

    The purpose of this study is to investigate under which dimensions the macro-environment for liquid biofuels has been structured during time, respectively by science, mass media, and government in Germany, and how these three social expressions related to each other. Research was carried out on German official government documents, mass media news, and scientific papers on the topic ‘liquid biofuels’. Text Mining was used to extract knowledge from their content.
