    Synopsis of Phasor Monitoring Applications for Wide Area Control and Protection

    The phenomenon of voltage collapse in electric power systems has received a considerable amount of attention in the last decade. Although the occurrences of the voltage blackouts have decreased in the recent years, the problem of voltage stability still poses a considerable threat to the security and the reliability of modern electricity grids. The ultimate objective of this thesis is to further investigate and expand upon the existing body of knowledge on the voltage collapse phenomenon and develop protection and control schemes for mitigating such undesirable events in modern electric grids. In doing so, the research done in this thesis work builds on an earlier work done in the area of Voltage Instability Prediction (VIP). Although proven to be a successful metric in determining the proximity of large nonlinear systems to a potential voltage instability event, much remains to be explored in the area of Voltage Instability Prediction. In particular the issues of estimating the static stability margins, the locational dependence of accuracy of such VIP derived margins, the exploitation of redundant local measurements and a compelling argument in favor of combining/fusing the individual VIP margins into a single system-wide measure of voltage collapse margin form the main focus of investigation of this work. To lower the individual entropy of the VIP derived margins, a data fusion algorithm built on the foundations of Dempster-Shafer’s evidential reasoning method is proposed. The research is concluded on a positive note with the final results further pushing the envelope of knowledge in the field of voltage stability studies in power systems

    Locational Accuracy of VIP Indices for Voltage Collapse Margin Estimation

    Nearly two decades of work on VIP (Voltage Instability Prediction) has enhanced the ability to obtain information on system vulnerability to voltage collapse based on minimum local information. Several indices have been developed over the past 20 years for local monitoring of voltage collapse problems, each with a different level of complexity with respect to computational and communicational infrastructure needed. This article addresses the disparity found in the VIP-derived margins and attempts to study the allocation of critical (more accurate) VIP locations across a power network during system changes. Additionally, a sensitivity metric is proposed to track the accurate VIP locations in real-time under increased system loading which could also lead to a meaningful data fusion of the more accurate VIP-derived margins

    Dipterocarps protected by Jering local wisdom in Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park, Bangka Island, Indonesia

    Apart of the oil palm plantation expansion, the Jering Menduyung Nature Recreational Park has relatively diverse plants. The 3,538 ha park is located at the north west of Bangka Island, Indonesia. The minimum species-area curve was 0.82 ha which is just below Dalil conservation forest that is 1.2 ha, but it is much higher than measurements of several secondary forests in the Island that are 0.2 ha. The plot is inhabited by more than 50 plant species. Of 22 tree species, there are 40 individual poles with the average diameter of 15.3 cm, and 64 individual trees with the average diameter of 48.9 cm. The density of Dipterocarpus grandiflorus (Blanco) Blanco or kruing, is 20.7 individual/ha with the diameter ranges of 12.1 – 212.7 cm or with the average diameter of 69.0 cm. The relatively intact park is supported by the local wisdom of Jering tribe, one of indigenous tribes in the island. People has regulated in cutting trees especially in the cape. The conservation agency designates the park as one of the kruing propagules sources in the province. The growing oil palm plantation and the less adoption of local wisdom among the youth is a challenge to forest conservation in the province where tin mining activities have been the economic driver for decades.     The Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade and the Society for Aesthetics of Architecture and Visual Arts of Serbia (DEAVUS) are proud to be able to organize the 21st ICA Congress on “Possible Worlds of Contemporary Aesthetics: Aesthetics Between History, Geography and Media”. We are proud to announce that we received over 500 submissions from 56 countries, which makes this Congress the greatest gathering of aestheticians in this region in the last 40 years. The ICA 2019 Belgrade aims to map out contemporary aesthetics practices in a vivid dialogue of aestheticians, philosophers, art theorists, architecture theorists, culture theorists, media theorists, artists, media entrepreneurs, architects, cultural activists and researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences. More precisely, the goal is to map the possible worlds of contemporary aesthetics in Europe, Asia, North and South America, Africa and Australia. The idea is to show, interpret and map the unity and diverseness in aesthetic thought, expression, research, and philosophies on our shared planet. Our goal is to promote a dialogue concerning aesthetics in those parts of the world that have not been involved with the work of the International Association for Aesthetics to this day. Global dialogue, understanding and cooperation are what we aim to achieve. That said, the 21st ICA is the first Congress to highlight the aesthetic issues of marginalised regions that have not been fully involved in the work of the IAA. This will be accomplished, among others, via thematic round tables discussing contemporary aesthetics in East Africa and South America. Today, aesthetics is recognized as an important philosophical, theoretical and even scientific discipline that aims at interpreting the complexity of phenomena in our contemporary world. People rather talk about possible worlds or possible aesthetic regimes rather than a unique and consistent philosophical, scientific or theoretical discipline
