Process of Fingerprint Authentication using Cancelable Biohashed Template

    Get PDF
Template protection using cancelable biometrics prevents data loss and hacking stored templates, by providing considerable privacy and security. Hashing and salting techniques are used to build resilient systems. Salted password method is employed to protect passwords against different types of attacks namely brute-force attack, dictionary attack, rainbow table attacks. Salting claims that random data can be added to input of hash function to ensure unique output. Hashing salts are speed bumps in an attacker’s road to breach user’s data. Research proposes a contemporary two factor authenticator called Biohashing. Biohashing procedure is implemented by recapitulated inner product over a pseudo random number generator key, as well as fingerprint features that are a network of minutiae. Cancelable template authentication used in fingerprint-based sales counter accelerates payment process. Fingerhash is code produced after applying biohashing on fingerprint. Fingerhash is a binary string procured by choosing individual bit of sign depending on a preset threshold. Experiment is carried using benchmark FVC 2002 DB1 dataset. Authentication accuracy is found to be nearly 97\%. Results compared with state-of art approaches finds promising

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Meets Deep Learning

    Get PDF
This reprint focuses on the application of the combination of synthetic aperture radars and depth learning technology. It aims to further promote the development of SAR image intelligent interpretation technology. A synthetic aperture radar (SAR) is an important active microwave imaging sensor, whose all-day and all-weather working capacity give it an important place in the remote sensing community. Since the United States launched the first SAR satellite, SAR has received much attention in the remote sensing community, e.g., in geological exploration, topographic mapping, disaster forecast, and traffic monitoring. It is valuable and meaningful, therefore, to study SAR-based remote sensing applications. In recent years, deep learning represented by convolution neural networks has promoted significant progress in the computer vision community, e.g., in face recognition, the driverless field and Internet of things (IoT). Deep learning can enable computational models with multiple processing layers to learn data representations with multiple-level abstractions. This can greatly improve the performance of various applications. This reprint provides a platform for researchers to handle the above significant challenges and present their innovative and cutting-edge research results when applying deep learning to SAR in various manuscript types, e.g., articles, letters, reviews and technical reports

Transformers are key elements of the power grid. Due to their importance and high initial cost, asset managers utilize monitoring and diagnostic tools to optimize their operation and extend their service life. The main objective of this thesis is to develop new methods in the field of monitoring and diagnosis of transformers in order to reduce maintenance costs and decrease the frequency of forced outages. For this purpose, two concepts are proposed. Small generator step-up transformers are essential in wind and photovoltaic parks. The first presented concept entails an online fault gas monitoring system for these transformers, specially hermetically-sealed transformers. The developed compact, maintenance-free and cost-effective monitoring system continuously tracks the level of the key leading indicators of transformer faults in the gas cushion. The second presented concept revolves around partial discharge (PD) assessment by the UHF measurement technique, which is based on capturing the electromagnetic (EM) waves emitted in case of PD in the insulation of a transformer. In this context, the complex EM system established when probes are introduced into the tank of a transformer and with PD as the excitation source is analyzed. Drawing on this foundation, a practical approach to the detection and classification of PD with the focus on the selection of the optimal frequency range for performing UHF measurements depending on the device under test is presented. The UHF measurement technique also offers the possibility of PD localization. Here, the determined arrival time (AT) of the captured signals is critical. A PD localization algorithm, based on a multi-data-set approach with a novel AT determination method, is proposed. The methods and algorithms proposed for the detection, classification and localization of PD are validated by means of practical experiments

The Possibilities of Leaky Bodies. A Feminist Materialist Ethnography of Menstruating Youth

    Get PDF
Using feminist new materialist theory and based on ethnographic field work, the monograph examins the (im) possibilities of young menstruants bodily becomings, as they navigate everyday youth life in a predominantly white upper-middle class suburb to Copenhagen, Denmark. To explore menstruation as a socio-material phenomena, the study pays attention to the meanings of whiteness, class and gender in relation to menstruation and zooms in how affects, bodies, blood, slime, pads and tampons matters to young menstruants bodily becomings. The study finds that the ignorance of menstruation in everyday life infrastructures, school pedagogics and peer relations can be limiting to young menstruants possibilities for joyfull participation in everyday life activiites. It however also shows how menstruation can matter for subversions of power and catalyze change, and how the leaky body can act as critique against neoliberal logics of bodies

A Process for the Restoration of Performances from Musical Errors on Live Progressive Rock Albums

    Get PDF
In the course of my practice of producing live progressive rock albums, a significant challenge has emerged: how to repair performance errors while retaining the intended expressive performance. Using a practice as research methodology, I develop a novel process, Error Analysis and Performance Restoration (EAPR), to restore a performer’s intention where an error was assessed to have been made. In developing this process, within the context of my practice, I investigate: the nature of live albums and the groups to which I am accountable, a definition of performance errors, an examination of their causes, and the existing literature on these topics. In presenting EAPR, I demonstrate, drawing from existing research, a mechanism by which originally intended performances can be extracted from recorded errors. The EAPR process exists as a conceptual model; each album has a specific implementation to address the needs of that album, and the currently available technology. Restoration techniques are developed as part of this implementation. EAPR is developed and demonstrated through my work restoring performances on a front-line commercial live release, the Creative Submission Album. The specific EAPR implementation I design for it is laid out, and detailed examples of its techniques demonstrated

149 p.Since the DL revolution and especially over the last years (2010-2022), DNNs have become an essentialpart of the CV field, and they are present in all its sub-fields (video-surveillance, industrialmanufacturing, autonomous driving, ...) and in almost every new state-of-the-art application that isdeveloped. However, DNNs are very complex and the architecture needs to be carefully selected andadapted in order to maximize its efficiency. In many cases, networks are not specifically designed for theconsidered use case, they are simply recycled from other applications and slightly adapted, without takinginto account the particularities of the use case or the interaction with the rest of the system components, which usually results in a performance drop. This research work aims at providing knowledge and tools for the optimization of systems based on DeepLearning applied to different real use cases within the field of Computer Vision, in order to maximizetheir effectiveness and efficiency

    Face recognition using skin texture

In today's society where information technology is depended upon throughout homes, educational establishments and workplaces the challenge of identity management is ever growing. Advancements in image processing and biometric feature based identification have provided a means for computer software to accurately identify individuals from increasingly vast databases of users. In the quest to improve the performance of such systems in varying environmental conditions skin texture is here proposed as a biometric feature. This thesis presents and discusses a hypothesis for the use of facial skin texture regions taken from 2-dimensional photographs to accurately identify individuals using three classifiers (neural network, support vector machine and linear discriminant). Gabor wavelet filters are primarily used for feature extraction and arc supported in later chapters by the grey-level cooccurrence probability matrix (GLCP) to strengthen the system by providing supplementary high-frequency features. Various fusion techniques for combining these features are presented and their perfonnance is compared including both score and feature fusion and various permutations of each. Based on preliminary results from the BioSecure Multimodal Database (BMDB) , the work presented indicates that isolated texture regions of the human face taken from under the eye may provide sufficient information to discriminately identify an individual with an equal error rate (EER) of under 1% when operating in greyscale. An analysis of the performance of the algorithm against image resolution investigates the systems performance when faced with lower resolution training images and discusses optimal resolutions for classifier training. The system also shows a good degree of robustness when the probe image resolution is reduced indicating that the algorithm provides some level of scale invariance. Scope for future work is laid out and a review of the evaluation is also presented

A state-of-the-art review of non-destructive testing image fusion and critical insights on the inspection of aerospace composites towards sustainable maintenance repair operations

    Get PDF
Non-destructive testing (NDT) of aerospace structures has gained significant interest, given its non-destructive and economic inspection nature enabling future sustainable aerospace maintenance repair operations (MROs). NDT has been applied to many different domains, and there is a number of such methods having their individual sensor technology characteristics, working principles, pros and cons. Increasingly, NDT approaches have been investigated alongside the use of data fusion with the aim of combining sensing information for improved inspection performance and more informative structural health condition outcomes for the relevant structure. Within this context, image fusion has been a particular focus. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive survey of the recent progress and development trends in NDT-based image fusion. A particular aspect included in this work is providing critical insights on the reliable inspection of aerospace composites, given the weight-saving potential and superior mechanical properties of composites for use in aerospace structures and support for airworthiness. As the integration of NDT approaches for composite materials is rather limited in the current literature, some examples from non-composite materials are also presented as a means of providing insights into the fusion potential
