Secure Multi-Path Selection with Optimal Controller Placement Using Hybrid Software-Defined Networks with Optimization Algorithm
The Internet's growth in popularity requires computer networks for both agility and resilience. Recently, unable to satisfy the computer needs for traditional networking systems. Software Defined Networking (SDN) is known as a paradigm shift in the networking industry. Many organizations are used SDN due to their efficiency of transmission. Striking the right balance between SDN and legacy switching capabilities will enable successful network scenarios in architecture networks. Therefore, this object grand scenario for a hybrid network where the external perimeter transport device is replaced with an SDN device in the service provider network. With the moving away from older networks to SDN, hybrid SDN includes both legacy and SDN switches. Existing models of SDN have limitations such as overfitting, local optimal trapping, and poor path selection efficiency. This paper proposed a Deep Kronecker Neural Network (DKNN) to improve its efficiency with a moderate optimization method for multipath selection in SDN. Dynamic resource scheduling is used for the reward function the learning performance is improved by the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) technique. The controller for centralised SDN acts as a network brain in the control plane. Among the most important duties network is selected for the best SDN controller. It is vulnerable to invasions and the controller becomes a network bottleneck. This study presents an intrusion detection system (IDS) based on the SDN model that runs as an application module within the controller. Therefore, this study suggested the feature extraction and classification of contractive auto-encoder with a triple attention-based classifier. Additionally, this study leveraged the best performing SDN controllers on which many other SDN controllers are based on OpenDayLight (ODL) provides an open northbound API and supports multiple southbound protocols. Therefore, one of the main issues in the multi-controller placement problem (CPP) that addresses needed in the setting of SDN specifically when different aspects in interruption, ability, authenticity and load distribution are being considered. Introducing the scenario concept, CPP is formulated as a robust optimization problem that considers changes in network status due to power outages, controller’s capacity, load fluctuations and changes in switches demand. Therefore, to improve network performance, it is planned to improve the optimal amount of controller placements by simulated annealing using different topologies the modified Dragonfly optimization algorithm (MDOA)

The availability of third-party apps is among the key success factors for software ecosystems: The users benefit from more features and innovation speed, while third-party solution vendors can leverage the platform to create successful offerings.
However, this requires a certain decoupling of engineering activities of the different parties not achieved for distributed control systems, yet.
While late and dynamic integration of third-party components would be required, resulting control systems must provide high reliability regarding real-time requirements, which leads to integration complexity.
Closing this gap would particularly contribute to the vision of software-defined manufacturing, where an ecosystem of modern IT-based control system components could lead to faster innovations due to their higher abstraction and availability of various frameworks.
Therefore, this thesis addresses the research question:
How we can use modern IT technologies and enable independent evolution and easy third-party integration of software components in distributed control systems, where deterministic end-to-end reactivity is required, and especially, how can we apply distributed changes to such systems consistently and reactively during operation?
This thesis describes the challenges and related approaches in detail and points out that existing approaches do not fully address our research question.
To tackle this gap, a formal specification of a runtime platform concept is presented in conjunction with a model-based engineering approach.
The engineering approach decouples the engineering steps of component definition, integration, and deployment.
The runtime platform supports this approach by isolating the components, while still offering predictable end-to-end real-time behavior.
Independent evolution of software components is supported through a concept for synchronous reconfiguration during full operation, i.e., dynamic orchestration of components.
Time-critical state transfer is supported, too, and can lead to bounded quality degradation, at most.
The reconfiguration planning is supported by analysis concepts, including simulation of a formally specified system and reconfiguration, and analyzing potential quality degradation with the evolving dataflow graph (EDFG) method.
A platform-specific realization of the concepts, the real-time container architecture, is described as a reference implementation.
The model and the prototype are evaluated regarding their feasibility and applicability of the concepts by two case studies.
The first case study is a minimalistic distributed control system used in different setups with different component variants and reconfiguration plans to compare the model and the prototype and to gather runtime statistics.
The second case study is a smart factory showcase system with more challenging application components and interface technologies.
The conclusion is that the concepts are feasible and applicable, even though the concepts and the prototype still need to be worked on in future -- for example, to reach shorter cycle times.Eine große Auswahl von Drittanbieter-Lösungen ist einer der Schlüsselfaktoren für Software Ecosystems:

Dies zu lösen würde insbesondere zur Vision von Software-definierter Produktion beitragen, da ein Ecosystem für moderne IT-basierte Steuerungskomponenten wegen deren höherem Abstraktionsgrad und der Vielzahl verfügbarer Frameworks zu schnellerer Innovation führen würde.
Daher behandelt diese Dissertation folgende Forschungsfrage:
Wie können wir moderne IT-Technologien verwenden und unabhängige Entwicklung und einfache Integration von Software-Komponenten in verteilten Steuerungssystemen ermöglichen, wo Ende-zu-Ende-Echtzeitverhalten gefordert ist, und wie können wir insbesondere verteilte Änderungen an solchen Systemen konsistent und im Vollbetrieb vornehmen?
Diese Dissertation beschreibt Herausforderungen und verwandte Ansätze im Detail und zeigt auf, dass existierende Ansätze diese Frage nicht vollständig behandeln.
Um diese Lücke zu schließen, beschreiben wir eine formale Spezifikation einer Laufzeit-Plattform und einen zugehörigen Modell-basierten Engineering-Ansatz.
Dieser Ansatz entkoppelt die Design-Schritte der Entwicklung, Integration und des Deployments von Komponenten.
Die Laufzeit-Plattform unterstützt den Ansatz durch Isolation von Komponenten und zugleich Zeit-deterministischem Ende-zu-Ende-Verhalten.
Unabhängige Entwicklung und Integration werden durch Konzepte für synchrone Rekonfiguration im Vollbetrieb unterstützt, also durch dynamische Orchestrierung.
Dies beinhaltet auch Zeit-kritische Zustands-Transfers mit höchstens begrenzter Qualitätsminderung, wenn überhaupt.
Rekonfigurationsplanung wird durch Analysekonzepte unterstützt, einschließlich der Simulation formal spezifizierter Systeme und Rekonfigurationen und der Analyse der etwaigen Qualitätsminderung mit dem Evolving Dataflow Graph (EDFG).
Die Real-Time Container Architecture wird als Referenzimplementierung und Evaluationsplattform beschrieben.
Zwei Fallstudien untersuchen Machbarkeit und Nützlichkeit der Konzepte.

Optical Synchronization of Time-of-Flight Cameras
Time-of-Flight (ToF)-Kameras erzeugen Tiefenbilder (3D-Bilder), indem sie Infrarotlicht aussenden und die Zeit messen, bis die Reflexion des Lichtes wieder empfangen wird. Durch den Einsatz mehrerer ToF-Kameras können ihre vergleichsweise geringere Auflösungen überwunden, das Sichtfeld vergrößert und Verdeckungen reduziert werden. Der gleichzeitige Betrieb birgt jedoch die Möglichkeit von Störungen, die zu fehlerhaften Tiefenmessungen führen. Das Problem der gegenseitigen Störungen tritt nicht nur bei Mehrkamerasystemen auf, sondern auch wenn mehrere unabhängige ToF-Kameras eingesetzt werden. In dieser Arbeit wird eine neue optische Synchronisation vorgestellt, die keine zusätzliche Hardware oder Infrastruktur erfordert, um ein Zeitmultiplexverfahren (engl. Time-Division Multiple Access, TDMA) für die Anwendung mit ToF-Kameras zu nutzen, um so die Störungen zu vermeiden. Dies ermöglicht es einer Kamera, den Aufnahmeprozess anderer ToF-Kameras zu erkennen und ihre Aufnahmezeiten schnell zu synchronisieren, um störungsfrei zu arbeiten. Anstatt Kabel zur Synchronisation zu benötigen, wird nur die vorhandene Hardware genutzt, um eine optische Synchronisation zu erreichen. Dazu wird die Firmware der Kamera um das Synchronisationsverfahren erweitert. Die optische Synchronisation wurde konzipiert, implementiert und in einem Versuchsaufbau mit drei ToF-Kameras verifiziert. Die Messungen zeigen die Wirksamkeit der vorgeschlagenen optischen Synchronisation. Während der Experimente wurde die Bildrate durch das zusätzliche Synchronisationsverfahren lediglich um etwa 1 Prozent reduziert.Time-of-Flight (ToF) cameras produce depth images (three-dimensional images) by measuring the time between the emission of infrared light and the reception of its reflection. A setup of multiple ToF cameras may be used to overcome their comparatively low resolution, increase the field of view, and reduce occlusion. However, the simultaneous operation of multiple ToF cameras introduces the possibility of interference resulting in erroneous depth measurements. The problem of interference is not only related to a collaborative multicamera setup but also to multiple ToF cameras operating independently. In this work, a new optical synchronization for ToF cameras is presented, requiring no additional hardware or infrastructure to utilize a time-division multiple access (TDMA) scheme to mitigate interference. It effectively enables a camera to sense the acquisition process of other ToF cameras and rapidly synchronizes its acquisition times to operate without interference. Instead of requiring cables to synchronize, only the existing hardware is utilized to enable an optical synchronization. To achieve this, the camera’s firmware is extended with the synchronization procedure. The optical synchronization has been conceptualized, implemented, and verified with an experimental setup deploying three ToF cameras. The measurements show the efficacy of the proposed optical synchronization. During the experiments, the frame rate was reduced by only about 1% due to the synchronization procedure
Review of SDN-based load-balancing methods, issues, challenges, and roadmap
The development of the Internet and smart end systems, such as smartphones and portable laptops, along with the emergence of cloud computing, social networks, and the Internet of Things, has brought about new network requirements. To meet these requirements, a new architecture called software-defined network (SDN) has been introduced. However, traffic distribution in SDN has raised challenges, especially in terms of uneven load distribution impacting network performance. To address this issue, several SDN load balancing (LB) techniques have been developed to improve efficiency. This article provides an overview of SDN and its effect on load balancing, highlighting key elements and discussing various load-balancing schemes based on existing solutions and research challenges. Additionally, the article outlines performance metrics used to evaluate these algorithms and suggests possible future research directions

In this thesis, we have relied on formal techniques in order to first evaluate WSN protocols and then to propose solutions that meet the requirements of these networks. The thesis contributes to the modelling, analysis, design and evaluation of WSN protocols.
In this context, the thesis begins with a survey on WSN and formal verification techniques. Focusing on the MAC layer, the thesis reviews proposed MAC protocols for WSN as well as their design challenges. The dissertation then proceeds to outline the contributions of this work.
As a first proposal, we develop a stochastic generic model of the 802.11 MAC protocol for an arbitrary network topology and then perform probabilistic evaluation of the protocol using statistical model checking. Considering an alternative power source to operate WSN, energy harvesting, we move to the second proposal where a protocol designed for EH-WSN is modelled and various performance parameters are evaluated. Finally, the thesis explores mobility in WSN and proposes a new MAC protocol, named "Mobility and Energy Harvesting aware Medium Access Control (MEH-MAC)" protocol for dynamic sensor networks powered by ambient energy. Experimental survey of FPGA-based monolithic switches and a novel queue balancer
This paper studies small to medium-sized monolithic switches for FPGA implementation and presents a novel switch design that achieves high algorithmic performance and FPGA implementation efficiency. Crossbar switches based on virtual output queues (VOQs) and variations have been rather popular for implementing switches on FPGAs, with applications in network switches, memory interconnects, network-on-chip (NoC) routers etc. The implementation efficiency of crossbar-based switches is well-documented on ASICs, though we show that their disadvantages can outweigh their advantages on FPGAs. One of the most important challenges in such input-queued switches is the requirement for iterative scheduling algorithms. In contrast to ASICs, this is more harmful on FPGAs, as the reduced operating frequency and narrower packets cannot “hide” multiple iterations of scheduling that are required to achieve a modest scheduling performance.Our proposed design uses an output-queued switch internally for simplifying scheduling, and a queue balancing technique to avoid queue fragmentation and reduce the need for memory-sharing VOQs. Its implementation approaches the scheduling performance of a state-of-the-art FPGA-based switch, while requiring considerably fewer resources
Model-Predictive Control in Communication Networks
This dissertation consists of 8 papers, separated into 3 groups. The first 3 papers show, how model-predictive control can be applied to queueing networks and contain a detailed proof of throughput optimality. Additionally, numerous network examples are discussed, and a connection between the stability properties of assembly queues and random walks on quotient spaces is established. The next two papers develop algorithms, with which robust forecasts of delay can be obtained in queueing networks. To that end, a notion of robustness is proposed, and the network control policy is designed to meet this goal. For the last 3 papers, focus is shifted towards Age-of-Information. Two main contributions are the derivation of the distribution of the Age-of-Information values in networks with clocked working cycles and an algorithm for the exact numerical evaluation of the Age-of-Information state-space in a similar set-up
