As vibraçÔes geradas pelas mĂĄquinas propagam-se atravĂ©s da estrutura gerando altos nĂ­veis de ruĂ­do nos alojamentos. Para determinar com precisĂŁo o fluxo de potĂȘncia atravĂ©s de placas reforçadas por vigas, um modelo que inclua o efeito das ressonĂąncias prĂłprias da alma e aba da viga e as ondas no plano deve ser considerado, sendo o efeito das ondas no plano importante principalmente nas altas freqĂŒĂȘncias. Este trabalho apresenta um modelo para determinar a resposta de placas reforçadas por vigas utilizando uma abordagem analĂ­tica. Os modelos incluem vigas L e T e uma placa reforçada por uma viga L submetida a um carregamento distribuĂ­do. Este modelo pode ser usado para a determinação dos fatores de acoplamento de estruturas a serem utilizadas em uma anĂĄlise de AnĂĄlise EstatĂ­stica EnergĂ©tica (SEA). Este mĂ©todo Ă© Ăștil devido ao baixo tempo de processamento comparado aos outros mĂ©todos existentes e a precisĂŁo Ă© consideravelmente boa especialmente nas altas freqĂŒĂȘncias. Os resultados obtidos sĂŁo validados comparando-se com o MĂ©todo de Elementos Finitos. Outros mĂ©todos para a determinação da mobilidade de estruturas tipo placa reforçada por vigas tambĂ©m sĂŁo apresentados neste trabalho.     Power quality and electromagnetic compatibility: special report, session 2

    The scope of Session 2 (S2) has been defined as follows by the Session Advisory Group and the Technical Committee: Power Quality (PQ), with the more general concept of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and with some related safety problems in electricity distribution systems. Special focus is put on voltage continuity (supply reliability, problem of outages) and voltage quality (voltage level, flicker, unbalance, harmonics). This session will also look at electromagnetic compatibility (mains frequency to 150 kHz), electromagnetic interferences and electric and magnetic fields issues. Also addressed in this session are electrical safety and immunity concerns (lightning issues, step, touch and transferred voltages). The aim of this special report is to present a synthesis of the present concerns in PQ&EMC, based on all selected papers of session 2 and related papers from other sessions, (152 papers in total).     Comparison of NASTRAN analysis with ground vibration results of UH-60A NASA/AEFA test configuration

    Preceding program flight tests, a ground vibration test and modal test analysis of a UH-60A Black Hawk helicopter was conducted by Sikorsky Aircraft to complement the UH-60A test plan and NASA/ARMY Modern Technology Rotor Airloads Program. The 'NASA/AEFA' shake test configuration was tested for modal frequencies and shapes and compared with its NASTRAN finite element model counterpart to give correlative results. Based upon previous findings, significant differences in modal data existed and were attributed to assumptions regarding the influence of secondary structure contributions in the preliminary NASTRAN modeling. An analysis of an updated finite element model including several secondary structural additions has confirmed that the inclusion of specific secondary components produces a significant effect on modal frequency and free-response shapes and improves correlations at lower frequencies with shake test data

    Self-organization without conservation: Are neuronal avalanches generically critical?

    Recent experiments on cortical neural networks have revealed the existence of well-defined avalanches of electrical activity. Such avalanches have been claimed to be generically scale-invariant -- i.e. power-law distributed -- with many exciting implications in Neuroscience. Recently, a self-organized model has been proposed by Levina, Herrmann and Geisel to justify such an empirical finding. Given that (i) neural dynamics is dissipative and (ii) there is a loading mechanism "charging" progressively the background synaptic strength, this model/dynamics is very similar in spirit to forest-fire and earthquake models, archetypical examples of non-conserving self-organization, which have been recently shown to lack true criticality. Here we show that cortical neural networks obeying (i) and (ii) are not generically critical; unless parameters are fine tuned, their dynamics is either sub- or super-critical, even if the pseudo-critical region is relatively broad. This conclusion seems to be in agreement with the most recent experimental observations. The main implication of our work is that, if future experimental research on cortical networks were to support that truly critical avalanches are the norm and not the exception, then one should look for more elaborate (adaptive/evolutionary) explanations, beyond simple self-organization, to account for this.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures, regular pape

    Emerging technologies for the non-invasive characterization of physical-mechanical properties of tablets

    The density, porosity, breaking force, viscoelastic properties, and the presence or absence of any structural defects or irregularities are important physical-mechanical quality attributes of popular solid dosage forms like tablets. The irregularities associated with these attributes may influence the drug product functionality. Thus, an accurate and efficient characterization of these properties is critical for successful development and manufacturing of a robust tablets. These properties are mainly analyzed and monitored with traditional pharmacopeial and non-pharmacopeial methods. Such methods are associated with several challenges such as lack of spatial resolution, efficiency, or sample-sparing attributes. Recent advances in technology, design, instrumentation, and software have led to the emergence of newer techniques for non-invasive characterization of physical-mechanical properties of tablets. These techniques include near infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray microtomography, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) imaging, terahertz pulsed imaging, laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, and various acoustic- and thermal-based techniques. Such state-of-the-art techniques are currently applied at various stages of development and manufacturing of tablets at industrial scale. Each technique has specific advantages or challenges with respect to operational efficiency and cost, compared to traditional analytical methods. Currently, most of these techniques are used as secondary analytical tools to support the traditional methods in characterizing or monitoring tablet quality attributes. Therefore, further development in the instrumentation and software, and studies on the applications are necessary for their adoption in routine analysis and monitoring of tablet physical-mechanical properties
