Joint Dynamic Radio Resource Allocation and Mobility Load Balancing in 3GPP LTE Multi-Cell Network

    Get PDF
Load imbalance, together with inefficient utilization of system resource, constitute major factors responsible for poor overall performance in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network. In this paper, a novel scheme of joint dynamic resource allocation and load balancing is proposed to achieve a balanced performance improvement in 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) LTE Self-Organizing Networks (SON). The new method which aims at maximizing network resource efficiency subject to inter-cell interference and intra-cell resource constraints is implemented in two steps. In the first step, an efficient resource allocation, including user scheduling and power assignment, is conducted in a distributed manner to serve as many users in the whole network as possible. In the second step, based on the resource allocation scheme, the optimization objective namely network resource efficiency can be calculated and load balancing is implemented by switching the user that can maximize the objective function. Lagrange Multipliers method and heuristic algorithm are used to resolve the formulated optimization problem. Simulation results show that our algorithm achieves better performance in terms of user throughput, fairness, load balancing index and unsatisfied user number compared with the traditional approach which takes resource allocation and load balancing into account, respectively

    Automated Ticket Routing Helpdesk Portal

This report was commissioned to deliver the understanding of the chosen Final Year Project title "Automated Ticket Routing Helpdesk Portal". The report will be segregated into four chapters which are the introduction including problem statement and objectives; literature review; methodology and conclusion. Helpdesk is a very powerful tool to assist IT users. A good helpdesk system is very crucial to assist users and also improve service by the helpdesk team. At Universiti Teknologi Petronas, we already have an existing helpdesk system. However, I have identified a problem in the system; the current system still uses manual ticket routing and assignment. Automated ticket routing and assignment stop manually assigning tickets to the support personnel that you think is available and has the skill set to address the ticket. Automated ticket routing and assignment uses intelligent business logic to determine which support personnel is assigned to a new ticket using a combination of skill-set, work schedule and work load balancing criteria. In the introduction, problem statements that lead to the idea of developing the project title will be cleared up and the objectives are highlighted. Towards the development of this project, information gathering from the experts will be conducted. A comprehensive research also will determine the relevancy of this project. The literature reviews will explain in depth the understanding of the proposed project

Hybrid Spectrum Allocation Scheme in Wireless Cellular Networks

    Get PDF
Mobile services have seen a major upswing driven by the bandwidth hungry applications thus leading to higher data rate requirements on the wireless networks. Spectrum being the most precious resource in the wireless industry is of keen interest. Various spectrum assignment and frequency reuse schemes have been proposed in literature. However in future networks, dynamic schemes that adapt to spatio-temporal variation in the environment are desired. We thus present a hybrid spectrum assignment scheme which adapts its allocation strategies depending on user distribution in the system. Results show that the proposed dynamic spectrum assignment strategy improves spectrum utilization thereby providing a higher data rate for the users

Fast Discrete Consensus Based on Gossip for Makespan Minimization in Networked Systems

    Get PDF
In this paper we propose a novel algorithm to solve the discrete consensus problem, i.e., the problem of distributing evenly a set of tokens of arbitrary weight among the nodes of a networked system. Tokens are tasks to be executed by the nodes and the proposed distributed algorithm minimizes monotonically the makespan of the assigned tasks. The algorithm is based on gossip-like asynchronous local interactions between the nodes. The convergence time of the proposed algorithm is superior with respect to the state of the art of discrete and quantized consensus by at least a factor O(n) in both theoretical and empirical comparisons

Teaching about Madrid: A Collaborative Agents-Based Distributed Learning Course

Interactive art courses require a huge amount of computational resources to be running on real time. These computational resources are even bigger if the course has been designed as a Virtual Environment with which students can interact. In this paper, we present an initiative that has been develop in a close collaboration between two Spanish Universities: Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and Universidad Rey Juan Carlos with the aim of join two previous research project: a Collaborative Awareness Model for Task-Balancing-Delivery (CAMT) in clusters and the “Teaching about Madrid” course, which provides a cultural interactive background of the capital of Spain

The Raincore API for clusters of networking elements

Clustering technology offers a way to increase overall reliability and performance of Internet information flow by strengthening one link in the chain without adding others. We have implemented this technology in a distributed computing architecture for network elements. The architecture, called Raincore, originated in the Reliable Array of Independent Nodes, or RAIN, research collaboration between the California Institute of Technology and the US National Aeronautics and Space Agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. The RAIN project focused on developing high-performance, fault-tolerant, portable clustering technology for spaceborne computing . The technology that emerged from this project became the basis for a spinoff company, Rainfinity, which has the exclusive intellectual property rights to the RAIN technology. The authors describe the Raincore conceptual architecture and distributed services, which are designed to make it easy for developers to port their applications to run on top of a cluster of networking elements. We include two applications: a Web server prototype that was part of the original RAIN research project and a commercial firewall cluster product from Rainfinity

Optimal Phase Swapping in Low Voltage Distribution Networks Based on Smart Meter Data and Optimization Heuristics

In this paper a modified version of the Harmony Search algorithm is proposed as a novel tool for phase swapping in Low Voltage Distribution Networks where the objective is to determine to which phase each load should be connected in order to reduce the unbalance when all phases are added into the neutral conductor. Unbalanced loads deteriorate power quality and increase costs of investment and operation. A correct assignment is a direct, effective alternative to prevent voltage peaks and network outages. The main contribution of this paper is the proposal of an optimization model for allocating phases consumers according to their individual consumption in the network of low-voltage distribution considering mono and bi-phase connections using real hourly load patterns, which implies that the computational complexity of the defined combinatorial optimization problem is heavily increased. For this purpose a novel metric function is defined in the proposed scheme. The performance of the HS algorithm has been compared with classical Genetic Algorithm. Presented results show that HS outperforms GA not only on terms of quality but on the convergence rate, reducing the computational complexity of the proposed scheme while provide mono and bi phase connections. This paper includes partial results of the UPGRID project.
