Prime locations

We harness big data to detect prime locations - large clusters of knowledge-based tradable services - in 125 global cities and track changes in the within-city geography of prime service jobs over a century. Historically smaller cities that did not develop early public transit networks are less concentrated today and have prime locations farther from their historic cores. We rationalize these findings in an agentbased model that features extreme agglomeration, multiple equilibria, and path dependence. Both city size and public transit networks anchor city structure. Exploiting major disasters and using a novel instrument - subway potential - we provide causal evidence for these mechanisms and disentangle sizefrom transport network effects

Future Transport in Lambeth

Air pollution in London is linked to thousands of deaths every year. This project aimed to aid the Lambeth Council in promoting emissions-based cashless parking payments and integrating smart city technology to maintain revenue, influence future policy, and reduce air pollution. To accomplish this, we analysed existing data, spoke with Council employees, and surveyed and interviewed residents. Combining the ideas of electronic parking payment and smart city technology, we created a web application to demonstrate how applying smart city technology to parking could reduce air pollution. We found that most residents would be willing to adopt an electronic parking payment method for lower prices, although a cash-based alternative in local businesses would be widely accepted

Making eParticipation policy - a European analysis: social and political trends in eParticipation: the public policy and the civil society perspectives

The creative and disruptive characteristics of digital networks have profound consequences for the production of citizenship, which has always been technologically constructed, but now derives its significance from a tension between elite intentions and network flows. Our aim in this paper is to explore this tension empirically by interrogating the process of policy-making with regard to eParticipation in six European countries

Worcester Food Assessment -- Production and Distribution

Community food assessments constitute a first step in planning for food security. This study for the Worcester Food & Active Living Policy Council, examined food production resources in Worcester as well as distribution networks, such as farmers markets, community-supported agriculture, and community gardens. Our goal was to help our sponsor better understand the local food system and to identify opportunities to increase the availability of nutritious and healthy food in low-income neighborhoods
