The OER FLOW and social media
This presentation introduces some strategies for producing, sharing and reusing OER through the OER Flow and social media. The aim of this investigation is to identify how colearners can apply the OER Flow and social media to make the production and adaptation processes of OER more explicit for anyone in the community to contribute. This work analyses, therefore, the interactions of “COLEARN” – an open community of research in collaborative learning technologies – who created and remixed diverse open media components for producing an open book about OER using the OER flow and Social Media. The outcomes show that educators and colearners can move from a passive position to a more active and informed network role when they are able to co-authoring OER
Finding Influential Users in Social Media Using Association Rule Learning
Influential users play an important role in online social networks since
users tend to have an impact on one other. Therefore, the proposed work
analyzes users and their behavior in order to identify influential users and
predict user participation. Normally, the success of a social media site is
dependent on the activity level of the participating users. For both online
social networking sites and individual users, it is of interest to find out if
a topic will be interesting or not. In this article, we propose association
learning to detect relationships between users. In order to verify the
findings, several experiments were executed based on social network analysis,
in which the most influential users identified from association rule learning
were compared to the results from Degree Centrality and Page Rank Centrality.
The results clearly indicate that it is possible to identify the most
influential users using association rule learning. In addition, the results
also indicate a lower execution time compared to state-of-the-art methods
Exploring the role of social media credentials in mobile learning: The engagement perspective
This paper presents a study on social media credentials as an authentication mechanism for accessing a mobile learning application.The
aim of the study is to investigate whether the use of social network credentials would have effect on mobile learning activities particularly learners’
engagement.An experimental study was conducted on forty students from a higher learning institution in Malaysia using a mobile learning application
named LANGKAWI APPS and a learning engagement questionnaire.The mobile application was developed in two versions, one with the social network
login facility and the other one with traditional authentication method.The results of the statistical tests demonstrate that social network credentials was rated higher by the learners in terms of attention in mobile learning compared to the traditional method.The results are discussed in terms of applicability of social network credential as an authentication mechanism for mobile learning
Exploring the use of social media tools among students for teaching and learning purpose
Social media network is a fairly recent word used to define a form of learning that can be performed via websites online learning. The exploring of the potential use of social media tools and impact of contingent factors on the relationship between three predictors was investigated. A total of 235 valid responses were received from undergraduate students Faculty of Computing, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in the study. Several factors have been found to correlate with social media use, active learning both to affect teaching and learning. The researchers made use of the structural equation modelling (SEM) method with the SmartPLS program to shed a light on the adoption process. The results show that the use of social media positively and significantly relates to active learning, which in turn affect teaching and learning
