    Towards a Knowledge Graph based Speech Interface

    Applications which use human speech as an input require a speech interface with high recognition accuracy. The words or phrases in the recognised text are annotated with a machine-understandable meaning and linked to knowledge graphs for further processing by the target application. These semantic annotations of recognised words can be represented as a subject-predicate-object triples which collectively form a graph often referred to as a knowledge graph. This type of knowledge representation facilitates to use speech interfaces with any spoken input application, since the information is represented in logical, semantic form, retrieving and storing can be followed using any web standard query languages. In this work, we develop a methodology for linking speech input to knowledge graphs and study the impact of recognition errors in the overall process. We show that for a corpus with lower WER, the annotation and linking of entities to the DBpedia knowledge graph is considerable. DBpedia Spotlight, a tool to interlink text documents with the linked open data is used to link the speech recognition output to the DBpedia knowledge graph.     A Broad-Coverage Challenge Corpus for Sentence Understanding through Inference

    This paper introduces the Multi-Genre Natural Language Inference (MultiNLI) corpus, a dataset designed for use in the development and evaluation of machine learning models for sentence understanding. In addition to being one of the largest corpora available for the task of NLI, at 433k examples, this corpus improves upon available resources in its coverage: it offers data from ten distinct genres of written and spoken English--making it possible to evaluate systems on nearly the full complexity of the language--and it offers an explicit setting for the evaluation of cross-genre domain adaptation.Comment: 10 pages, 1 figures, 5 tables. v2 corrects a misreported accuracy number for the CBOW model in the 'matched' setting. v3 adds a discussion of the difficulty of the corpus to the analysis section. v4 is the version that was accepted to NAACL201

    Dynamic Extension of ASR Lexicon Using Wikipedia Data

    International audienceDespite recent progress in developing Large Vocabulary Continuous Speech Recognition Systems (LVCSR), these systems suffer from Out-Of-Vocabulary words (OOV). In many cases, the OOV words are Proper Nouns (PNs). The correct recognition of PNs is essential for broadcast news, audio indexing, etc. In this article, we address the problem of OOV PN retrieval in the framework of broadcast news LVCSR. We focused on dynamic (document dependent) extension of LVCSR lexicon. To retrieve relevant OOV PNs, we propose to use a very large multipurpose text corpus: Wikipedia. This corpus contains a huge number of PNs. These PNs are grouped in semantically similar classes using word embedding. We use a two-step approach: first, we select OOV PN pertinent classes with a multi-class Deep Neural Network (DNN). Secondly, we rank the OOVs of the selected classes. The experiments on French broadcast news show that the Bi-GRU model outperforms other studied models. Speech recognition experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology

    Adaptation of speech recognition vocabularies for improved transcription of YouTube videos

    International audienceThis paper discusses the adaptation of speech recognition vocabularies for automatic speech transcription. The context is the transcription of YouTube videos in French, English and Arabic. Base-line automatic speech recognition systems have been developed using previously available data. However, the available text data, including the GigaWord corpora from LDC, are getting quite old with respect to recent YouTube videos that are to be transcribed. After a discussion on the performance of the ASR baseline systems, the paper presents the collection of recent textual data from internet for updating the speech recognition vocabularies and for training the language models, as well as the elaboration of development data sets necessary for the vocabulary selection process. The paper also compares the coverage of the training data collected from internet, and of the GigaWord data, with finite size vocabularies made of the most frequent words. Finally, the paper presents and discusses the amount of out-of-vocabulary word occurrences, before and after the update of the speech recognition vocabularies, for the three languages. Moreover, some speech recognition evaluation results are provided and analyzed

    Building chatbots from large scale domain-specific knowledge bases: challenges and opportunities

    Popular conversational agents frameworks such as Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) and Google Actions (gActions) offer unprecedented opportunities for facilitating the development and deployment of voice-enabled AI solutions in various verticals. Nevertheless, understanding user utterances with high accuracy remains a challenging task with these frameworks. Particularly, when building chatbots with large volume of domain-specific entities. In this paper, we describe the challenges and lessons learned from building a large scale virtual assistant for understanding and responding to equipment-related complaints. In the process, we describe an alternative scalable framework for: 1) extracting the knowledge about equipment components and their associated problem entities from short texts, and 2) learning to identify such entities in user utterances. We show through evaluation on a real dataset that the proposed framework, compared to off-the-shelf popular ones, scales better with large volume of entities being up to 30% more accurate, and is more effective in understanding user utterances with domain-specific entities

    Selecting and Generating Computational Meaning Representations for Short Texts

    Language conveys meaning, so natural language processing (NLP) requires representations of meaning. This work addresses two broad questions: (1) What meaning representation should we use? and (2) How can we transform text to our chosen meaning representation? In the first part, we explore different meaning representations (MRs) of short texts, ranging from surface forms to deep-learning-based models. We show the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of MRs for summarization, paraphrase detection, and clustering. In the second part, we use SQL as a running example for an in-depth look at how we can parse text into our chosen MR.     Weakly-Supervised Neural Response Selection from an Ensemble of Task-Specialised Dialogue Agents

    Dialogue engines that incorporate different types of agents to converse with humans are popular. However, conversations are dynamic in the sense that a selected response will change the conversation on-the-fly, influencing the subsequent utterances in the conversation, which makes the response selection a challenging problem. We model the problem of selecting the best response from a set of responses generated by a heterogeneous set of dialogue agents by taking into account the conversational history, and propose a \emph{Neural Response Selection} method. The proposed method is trained to predict a coherent set of responses within a single conversation, considering its own predictions via a curriculum training mechanism. Our experimental results show that the proposed method can accurately select the most appropriate responses, thereby significantly improving the user experience in dialogue systems
