Large Deviations for Brownian Intersection Measures
We consider p independent Brownian motions in ℝd. We assume that p ≥ 2 and p(d- 2) < d. Let ℓt denote the intersection measure of the p paths by time t, i.e., the random measure on ℝd that assigns to any measurable set A ⊂ ℝd the amount of intersection local time of the motions spent in A by time t. Earlier results of Chen derived the logarithmic asymptotics of the upper tails of the total mass ℓt(ℝd) as t →∞. In this paper, we derive a large-deviation principle for the normalised intersection measure t-pℓt on the set of positive measures on some open bounded set B ⊂ ℝd as t →∞ before exiting B. The rate function is explicit and gives some rigorous meaning, in this asymptotic regime, to the understanding that the intersection measure is the pointwise product of the densities of the normalised occupation times measures of the p motions. Our proof makes the classical Donsker-Varadhan principle for the latter applicable to the intersection measure.
A second version of our principle is proved for the motions observed until the individual exit times from B, conditional on a large total mass in some compact set U ⊂ B. This extends earlier studies on the intersection measure by König and Mörters
Capacity of the range of random walk: The law of the iterated logarithm
We establish both the and the law of the iterated
logarithm LIL, for the capacity of the range of a simple random walk in any
dimension . While for , the order of growth in of such LIL
at dimension matches that for the volume of the random walk range in
dimension , somewhat surprisingly this correspondence breaks down for the
capacity of the range at . We further establish such LIL for the Brownian
capacity of a -dimensional Brownian sample path and novel, sharp moderate
deviations bounds for the capacity of the range of a -dimensional simple
random walk
Stochastic quantization of the three-dimensional polymer measure via the Dirichlet form method
We prove that there exists a diffusion process whose invariant measure is the
three dimensional polymer measure for small . We
follow in part a previous incomplete unpublished work of the first named author
with M. R\"ockner and X.Y. Zhou. For the construction of we rely
on previous work by J. Westwater, E. Bolthausen and X.Y. Zhou. Using
, the diffusion is constructed by means of the theory of Dirichlet
forms on infinite-dimensional state spaces. The closability of the appropriate
pre-Dirichlet form which is of gradient type is proven, by using a general
closability result in [AR89a]. This result does not require an integration by
parts formula (which does not even hold for the two-dimensional polymer measure
) but requires the quasi-invariance of along a basis
of vectors in the classical Cameron-Martin space such that the Radon-Nikodym
derivatives have versions which form a continuous process.Comment: 87 pages, 8 figure
