    Cueing and composing for long distance network music collaborations.

    Long distance network music collaborations beyond the ensemble performance threshold (EPT) as exposed by Schuett in 2002 [14] where playability is affected beyond a roundtrip network delay of 50ms calls for the development of cueing mechanisms that are methodical and linked to musical parameters. The cueing strategies involved in such musical interactions will depend on the type of repertoire played and the network distance (ND) between the nodes involved in the performance. This paper proposes a semi-standardized cueing framework for real time collaborations over the network with latencies of more than 50ms. The paper also explores a compositional methodology for creating network centric performances, which couldn’t occur outside of a networked situation

    Wireless communication is already used in process automation for process monitoring. The next stage of implementation of wireless technology in industrial applications is for process control. The need for wireless networked control systems has evolved because of the necessity for extensibility, mobility, modularity, fast deployment, and reduced installation and maintenance cost. These benefits are only applicable given that the wireless network of choice can meet the strict requirements of process control applications, such as latency. In this regard, this paper is an effort towards identifying current industry practices related to implementing process control over a wireless link and evaluates the suitability of ISA100.11a network for use in process control through experiments

    Geometrical jitter and bolometric regime in photon detection by straight superconducting nanowire

    We present a direct observation of the geometrical jitter in single photon detection by a straight superconducting nanowire. Differential measurement technique was applied to the 180-{\mu}m long nanowire similar to those commonly used in the technology of superconducting nanowire single photon detectors (SNSPD). A non-gaussian geometrical jitter appears as a wide almost uniform probability distribution (histogram) of the delay time (latency) of the nanowire response to detected photon. White electrical noise of the readout electronics causes broadened, Gaussian shaped edges of the histogram. Subtracting noise contribution, we found for the geometrical jitter a standard deviation of 8.5 ps and the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the distribution of 29 ps. FWHM corresponds to the propagation speed of the electrical signal along the nanowire of 6.2Ă—1066.2\times10^{6} m/s or 0.02 of the speed of light. Alternatively the propagation speed was estimated from the central frequency of the measured first order self-resonance of the nanowire. Both values agree well with each other and with previously reported values. As the intensity of the incident photon flux increases, the wide probability distribution collapses into a much narrower Gaussian distribution with a standard deviation dominated by the noise of electronics.     Design considerations of manipulator and feel system characteristics in roll tracking

    A fixed-base simulation was performed to identify and quantify interactions between the pilot's hand/arm neuromuscular subsystem and such control system features of typical modern fighter aircraft roll rate command mechanizations as: (1) force versus displacement sensing side-stick type manipulator, (2) feel force/displacement gradient, (3) feel system versus command prefilter dynamic lag, and (4) flight control system effective time delay. The experiment encompassed some 48 manipulator/filter/aircraft configurations. Displacement side-stick experiment results are given and compared with the previous force sidestick experiment results. Attention is focused on control bandwidth, excitement (peaking) of the neuromuscular mode, feel force/displacement gradient effects, time delay effects, etc. Section 5 is devoted to experiments with a center-stick in which force versus displacement sensing, feel system lag, and command prefilter lag influences on tracking performance and pilot preference are investigated
