Video Data Visualization System: Semantic Classification And Personalization
We present in this paper an intelligent video data visualization tool, based
on semantic classification, for retrieving and exploring a large scale corpus
of videos. Our work is based on semantic classification resulting from semantic
analysis of video. The obtained classes will be projected in the visualization
space. The graph is represented by nodes and edges, the nodes are the keyframes
of video documents and the edges are the relation between documents and the
classes of documents. Finally, we construct the user's profile, based on the
interaction with the system, to render the system more adequate to its

Learning Correlations between Linguistic Indicators and Semantic Constraints: Reuse of Context-Dependent Descriptions of Entities
This paper presents the results of a study on the semantic constraints
imposed on lexical choice by certain contextual indicators. We show how such
indicators are computed and how correlations between them and the choice of a
noun phrase description of a named entity can be automatically established
using supervised learning. Based on this correlation, we have developed a
technique for automatic lexical choice of descriptions of entities in text
generation. We discuss the underlying relationship between the pragmatics of
choosing an appropriate description that serves a specific purpose in the
automatically generated text and the semantics of the description itself. We
present our work in the framework of the more general concept of reuse of
linguistic structures that are automatically extracted from large corpora. We
present a formal evaluation of our approach and we conclude with some thoughts

A words-of-interest model of sketch representation for image retrieval
In this paper we propose a method for sketch-based image retrieval. Sketch is a magical medium which is capable of conveying semantic messages for user. Itās in accordance with userās cognitive psychology to retrieve images with sketch. In order to narrow down the semantic gap between the user and the images in database, we preprocess all the images into sketches by the coherent line drawing algorithm. During the process of sketches extraction, saliency maps are used to filter out the redundant background information, while preserve the important semantic information. We use a variant of Words-of-Interest model to retrieve relevant images for the user according to the query. Words-of-Interest (WoI) model is based on Bag-ofvisual Words (BoW) model, which has been proven successfully for information retrieval. Bag-of-Words ignores the spatial relationships among visual words, which are important for sketch representation. Our method takes advantage of the spatial information of the query to select words of interest. Experimental results demonstrate that our sketch-based retrieval method achieves a good tradeoff between retrieval accuracy and semantic representation of usersā query
StoryDroid: Automated Generation of Storyboard for Android Apps
Mobile apps are now ubiquitous. Before developing a new app, the development
team usually endeavors painstaking efforts to review many existing apps with
similar purposes. The review process is crucial in the sense that it reduces
market risks and provides inspiration for app development. However, manual
exploration of hundreds of existing apps by different roles (e.g., product
manager, UI/UX designer, developer) in a development team can be ineffective.
For example, it is difficult to completely explore all the functionalities of
the app in a short period of time. Inspired by the conception of storyboard in
movie production, we propose a system, StoryDroid, to automatically generate
the storyboard for Android apps, and assist different roles to review apps
efficiently. Specifically, StoryDroid extracts the activity transition graph
and leverages static analysis techniques to render UI pages to visualize the
storyboard with the rendered pages. The mapping relations between UI pages and
the corresponding implementation code (e.g., layout code, activity code, and
method hierarchy) are also provided to users. Our comprehensive experiments
unveil that StoryDroid is effective and indeed useful to assist app
development. The outputs of StoryDroid enable several potential applications,
such as the recommendation of UI design and layout code
CHORUS Deliverable 2.1: State of the Art on Multimedia Search Engines
Based on the information provided by European projects and national initiatives related to multimedia search as well as domains experts that participated in the CHORUS Think-thanks and workshops, this document reports on the state of the art related to multimedia content search from, a technical, and socio-economic perspective.
The technical perspective includes an up to date view on content based indexing and retrieval technologies, multimedia search in the context of mobile devices and peer-to-peer networks, and an overview of current evaluation and benchmark inititiatives to measure the performance of multimedia search engines.
From a socio-economic perspective we inventorize the impact and legal consequences of these technical advances and point out future directions of research
K-Space at TRECVid 2007
In this paper we describe K-Space participation in
TRECVid 2007. K-Space participated in two tasks, high-level feature extraction and interactive search. We present our approaches for each of these activities and provide a brief analysis of our results. Our high-level feature submission utilized multi-modal low-level features which included visual, audio and temporal elements. Specific concept detectors (such as Face detectors) developed by K-Space partners were also used. We experimented with different machine learning approaches including logistic regression and support vector machines (SVM). Finally we also experimented with both early and late fusion for feature combination. This year we also participated in interactive search, submitting 6 runs. We developed two interfaces which both utilized the same retrieval functionality. Our objective was to measure the effect of context, which was supported to different degrees in each interface, on user performance.
The first of the two systems was a āshotā based interface,
where the results from a query were presented as a ranked
list of shots. The second interface was ābroadcastā based,
where results were presented as a ranked list of broadcasts.
Both systems made use of the outputs of our high-level feature submission as well as low-level visual features
Towards information profiling: data lake content metadata management
There is currently a burst of Big Data (BD) processed and stored in huge raw data repositories, commonly called Data Lakes (DL). These BD require new techniques of data integration and schema alignment in order to make the data usable by its consumers and to discover the relationships linking their content. This can be provided by metadata services which discover and describe their content. However, there is currently a lack of a systematic approach for such kind of metadata discovery and management. Thus, we propose a framework for the profiling of informational content stored in the DL, which we call information profiling. The profiles are stored as metadata to support data analysis. We formally define a metadata management process which identifies the key activities required to effectively handle this.We demonstrate the alternative techniques and performance of our process using a prototype implementation handling a real-life case-study from the OpenML DL, which showcases the value and feasibility of our approach.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
