The Distributed Ontology Language (DOL): Use Cases, Syntax, and Extensibility
The Distributed Ontology Language (DOL) is currently being standardized
within the OntoIOp (Ontology Integration and Interoperability) activity of
ISO/TC 37/SC 3. It aims at providing a unified framework for (1) ontologies
formalized in heterogeneous logics, (2) modular ontologies, (3) links between
ontologies, and (4) annotation of ontologies. This paper presents the current
state of DOL's standardization. It focuses on use cases where distributed
ontologies enable interoperability and reusability. We demonstrate relevant
features of the DOL syntax and semantics and explain how these integrate into

RuleCNL: A Controlled Natural Language for Business Rule Specifications
Business rules represent the primary means by which companies define their
business, perform their actions in order to reach their objectives. Thus, they
need to be expressed unambiguously to avoid inconsistencies between business
stakeholders and formally in order to be machine-processed. A promising
solution is the use of a controlled natural language (CNL) which is a good
mediator between natural and formal languages. This paper presents RuleCNL,
which is a CNL for defining business rules. Its core feature is the alignment
of the business rule definition with the business vocabulary which ensures
traceability and consistency with the business domain. The RuleCNL tool
provides editors that assist end-users in the writing process and automatic
mappings into the Semantics of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules (SBVR)
standard. SBVR is grounded in first order logic and includes constructs called

Meta-Packages: Painless Domain Specific Languages
Domain Specific Languages are used to provide a tailored modelling notation
for a specific application domain. There are currently two main approaches to
DSLs: standard notations that are tailored by adding simple properties; new
notations that are designed from scratch. There are problems with both of these
approaches which can be addressed by providing access to a small meta-language
based on packages and classes. A meta-modelling approach based on meta-packages
allows a wide range of DSLs to be defined in a standard way. The DSLs can be
processed using standard object-based extension at the meta-level and existing
tooling can easily be defined to adapt to the new languages. This paper
